Chapter 8: Blackout

Announcer: Well I guess we can move on to the next battl-

Before the Announcer could finish, the lights went out. The entire crowd started panicking in the darkness.

Announcer: Everyone, please calm down! Electricians are already on the scene attempting to fix the issue, please do not panic.

Tozuki: Eh? The lights and TV turned off, what happened?

Kanjiro: It could be city-wide, the power grid malfunctioned, or some dumb@ss cut the power.

Tozuki: Well since the tournament is on hold, want to look around the building?

Kanjiro: Sure, I heard this building has 36 floors.

Tozuki and Kanjiro exited the waiting room, sneaking out of the arena room into the hallway. They checked the rooms, only finding boring offices with an occasional computer room.

Kanjiro: *Sigh* I thought this would be cool, but the only stuff here are offices and boring computer stuff.

Kanjiro opened the next door, peering in to see somebody in the room. They turned around while Kanjiro backed away from the door. Kanjiro rushed out, as Tozuki stood there confused.

Tozuki was about to yell after Kanjiro until the door burst open. Someone with glowing yellow eyes chased after Kanjiro, not realizing Tozuki was there. Tozuki quickly rushed after the entity, he enhanced his legs with Maho to run faster, quickly catching up to the entity.

The entity heard Tozuki, quickly turning around and swinging its arm toward Tozuki. Tozuki bent backward, sliding on his knees to pass the entity and turning back to the entity.

Tozuki: Who or what are you?

The entity growled before jumping up through the ceiling, weird noises echoed through the hallway before the entity burst out from the ground, hitting Tozuki from behind (pause). Tozuki turned around to see another punch coming his way, he barely ducked under the punch but was kicked by the entity.

Tozuki was flung into a wall, and the entity then rushed at Tozuki, he narrowly dodged as the entity flew through the wall into an office room. Tozuki quickly created a small throwing knife, throwing it toward the entity as it impaled its left shoulder. The entity screamed in pain before rushing toward Tozuki who ducked under the entity. The entity roared, shaking the building and making Tozuki fall over, the entity took the chance to punch Tozuki. Tozuki threw up his arms to block it but he saw a streak of light as the entity's arm was cut off, he looked over to see Kanjiro with his sword.

Kanjiro: Don't think I forgot about you! Let's get this started!

Tozuki quickly jumped up, his pupils glowed a bright red as they illuminated the hallway. Tozuki looked at the entity, it was tall and muscular with dark green skin and shorts, it had a metal face mask on and a contorted face. It screeched due to the pain, it's purple blood dripped on the floor as it looked strained, something started wiggling out of his arm socket as a new arm shot out.

Tozuki: It looks like it has regenerative properties, I'll try and distract it whilst you cut off its limbs!

Tozuki rushed at the entity, it threw a punch but Tozuki slid between its legs, creating a red Maho thread tying its legs together which limited its maneuverability. Tozuki then did a backflip over its head, throwing 2 Maho throwing knives into its knees, as the entity fell on its back. Kanjiro enlarged his sword as it was surrounded by a blue Maho aura.

Kanjiro: Sword of the heaven come down to earth, and grant me strength. TenKen!

Kanjiro brought his sword down, as the Maho released in a slash, cutting the entity in half. The entity laid there without regenerating, both Kanjiro and Tozuki sighed and high-fived.

Tozuki: I thought I was done there, thanks for coming back for me.

Kanjiro: I wouldn't leave you behind, once I realized you weren't behind me I immediately ran back over, glad I made it in time.

Tozuki's eyes stopped glowing, and both Kanjiro and Tozuki walked away. In the background the purple blood of the entity crawled up behind Tozuki, managing to hide in his sock. Tozuki and Kanjiro made it back to the arena room, the room was now lit up by a backup generator, and the fight between Ichibe Torio and Retsu Goro had just ended with Ichibe winning.

Announcer: Now the 7th fight, will Kanjiro Samui and Shime Hitaka please step up to the ring!

Kanjiro jumped down, landing in the arena, and across from him, there was a man with ear-length blonde hair and grey eyes. He wore a black suit along with white gloves and glasses with nice black pants and dress shoes.

Announcer: Now, let's start this battle!

Kanjiro summoned his sword, he put his left leg forward and held his sword with both hands in front of him, waiting for his opponent to make a move. Hitaka took off his glasses putting them in his back pocket, then pointing at Kanjiro with his middle and index finger as sparks started to generate on the tip of his fingers.

Hitaka: Form 1: Combustion!

A boom was heard across the arena, as a speeding compressed blast of fire was shot from the tip of Hitaka's fingers. Kanjiro breathed calmly, he focused on the fire as it approached him at high speeds, he felt it enter his range as he knocked it away with his sword perfectly, as it was sent into the air, causing a massive explosion. Kanjiro pointed the tip of his sword toward Hitaka with a smug grin.

Kanjiro: That thing was pretty cool, mind if I try it? Form 1: Combustion!

A shot of fire at the same speed blasted toward Hitaka, he was caught off guard but still managed to dodge it with a burn mark on his cheek.

Hitaka: Such insolence! You dare copy the royal technique of the Hitaka Family?!

Shime Hitaka
