Mage's Academy

Have you ever opened a book and immediately regretted it? I'm sure you have. Have you gotten a papercut from said book? If it wasn't an e-book, chances are likely. Now, have you ever bled on a page of this book and have it download onto your phone? Odds are, probably not. Jason has though. The moment the app Mage's Academy appeared, he knew he should have deleted it. But you know the saying: curiosity makes a crazy redhead fall through a hole in your phone and land in your lap. That's not a saying? If finding out magic was real and most MMORPG's were tailored after it wasn't enough, Jason gets attacked by flesh eating rabbits, found out he couldn't die or he'd just respawn, and was chased out of his cushy park ranger job by blood cultists. All in all, not cool. Join Jason as he deals with the hand that's been dealt to him as he hits the road with Selena, his feisty redhead phone hopping goddess, and a police officer that's well... not a police officer. Enjoy!

Chapter Thirty Four

Jason looked down from his vantage point in the sky. The thousands of beasts below fought a force around the same power as their own. If something wasn't done, the two armies could continue fighting indefinitely. He brought out his phone and brought it to the dungeon's page.

'Eternal Beast War'

'The Sage Fire Monkeys are locked in an eternal struggle against the Jade Water Gorillas. If provoked by an outside force, both armies may halt their thousand year struggle to band together and destroy the intruder.'

Dungeon Quest: Destroy both sides of the war. Enemy Forces 15,000/15,000

"Pretty straight forward." He put his phone away and activated his mana saber flame edition. The night lit up with the beam of dark orange coming to life.

He dropped in a freefall into the ocean of beasts. The moment he spun his blade, decapitating a dozen in the process, the center of the horde ceased their fighting. When they turned to see what happened, Jason could see their eyes go red with hate.

Jason brought a frost mana saber to life in his other hand and launched himself into the fight. Using the flame saber, he deflected the water attacks from the gorillas, ice lances launched from all sides, only to sizzle into nothingness on the blade, or on his mana skin. He condensed his saber into a ball and threw it into a large cluster of the beasts, incinerating them on the spot, only to make another saber and block the next volley.

The gorillas weren't the only ones to show their fury for the interruptions, the Sage Fire Monkeys threw yellow flames towards him, trying to batter his mana skin into submission from another position.

Jason added a layer of frost protection to fend off the attacks, then his hand rose in the air, summoning a large layer of water. He dropped his hand and the attack dropped with it, dowsing the monkeys in seconds. Before they had the chance to turn the water to steam, he used his control over water and wind to freeze it to their skin. Their frantic screams died out in seconds as the frost seeped into their skin, freezing them inside and out.

With a flick of his hand, he sent the frost saber to the group of monkeys, shattering them like fragile statues.

Jason kept a small pocket of space within the vast horde of beasts. He chopped away at them, creating a sphere of power around him, generating both flame and heat to fend off the attacks. Though his defense was fierce, it cost almost nothing to his mana reserves. After hitting ten percent in both frost and flame, the cost of mana per cast was reduced by half. He could essentially keep a sphere of power roughly ten times the size as the one he had up currently for a period of a minute. But having it activated with this amount, he could maintain it for hours. Though, with this speed, no matter how many enemies he destroyed, it could take much longer. All the enemy had to do was wait him out, then they'd have the chance to pounce. Though it'd take most of both the army's numbers, they would still outlast him by a few thousand.

Jason dropped his sabers, yet increased the intensity of the sphere to compensate. If he didn't do something different, he would most likely have to start this fight over again. His thoughts went to something he'd wanted to test for a few weeks now.

He clenched his fists tight and thought of space and time. It was the concept of the temporal tome itself. He knew he had access to its power, even if just a little. His time magic had increased overtime, whether that was because of his leveling up, or his time within a condensed time area, he could only guess, but it had to be enough to do something with it.

He focused all that he knew about portals into his hand. He felt something tingle within, then he opened it, revealing a ball of pure darkness. He waited until he had the same feeling within his other hand, then opened it as well.

Examining the spheres, he took out a dagger that he'd received as a reward a few dungeons back and dropped it into one of the tiny portals. It dragged the weapon in, then it came out the other portal. Jason smiled as he gained the result he was looking for. He then let the dagger drop through space and time a few more iterations, allowing it to pick up in speed. He willed it to go even faster. Whether it did because of his wishes, or because of the momentum that was built up, the dagger became a blur of motion between the entrance and exit portals.

Jason willed the portals to exit his protective barrier. The moment they did, chaos ensued.

The dagger didn't drop in speed as it tore through one beast after another. Jason controlled the angle of the portals, so he was able to create a wide kill zone, shredding groups at a more rapid rate. He used it as if he were using a broom or vacuum, sweeping the ground clear of any beast. He marveled at the ease of what he was doing. The flame and frost skin seemed to be parlor tricks compared to the scope of power this one ability possessed.

The small pocket of space became a wide berth as the blade continued its slaughter. Though the attack was insane, Jason felt less of a drain in mana than he would if he were going all out with his sabers again. "Space and time magic are a whole different creature!" He willed the blade to go even faster as it went from one portal to another. It seemed as though he could control the time within the portal. When he realized this, his understanding of his new attack grew significantly.

Soon, there were less than a thousand beasts left. Jason slowed time down within the portal, slowing the speed of the dagger until it was at a speed that he could snatch it from its never ending route. He then cut the mana to the two portals, blinking them out of existence.

All went quiet within the battlefield as two mana sabers buzzed to life. Jason used temporal shift to blink from his location and reappear in front of ten monkeys, dispatching their heads from their shoulders in one sweep. He then held out his hand, palm facing a group of fifty gorillas and an inferno blazed to life, snuffing them out before they could move.

Jason recovered mana, all the while dispatching the remainder of the beasts.

Now standing in a field of absolute quiet, he could feel the power of the beasts, as well as the dungeon reward flowing into him. He barely registered it anymore, but the new attack that he'd made had peaked his interest.

Taking out his phone, he checked his stats.

"Micro portal, huh?" He thought to himself. It seemed like a good enough name. "I wonder if I'll be able to increase the amount of portals I can summon in the future." He mused. "If I can, then I would control a battlefield like this one in half the time by summoning two sets of portals and sending them out." He decided to use only the micro portals for the next subsequent dungeons until he was level eighty. If he were to level up the ability enough, he might be able to create an even more devastating attack.

A message appeared on the top right of his screen. He touched the chat bubble icon and Rukil's name showed up.

'She's here.' Was all it said.

"Looks like things are about to get started." He clicked back into the dungeon screen. With a smile, he ended the dungeon, falling through the void, back into his home.
