30 Heartbroken

(Brinley's pov)

I have been trying to gain Adam's attention since a few days, but he is like a rock! Even if I try to get close to him, he just makes some kind of excuses and goes away from me. This makes me sad. Very sad.

Maybe he's right, I am being immature. I am still young, and I should focus on my studies. I have already reached my limit...

I think I should give a last try before completely giving up like this. I should go and meet him, and convince him to go on a date with me today.

I leave my room after getting ready and search for him in the whole house, but he's nowhere.

I called Derek and came to know that he had left for my brother's branch office here in Dubai to find some hackers and do some work.

He has vacation for god's sake! Why is my brother draining him in work!? I decide to go to the office.

When I reached there, security forces already recognized me, so they let me in without questioning and showing any ID proof cards. I entered the elevator and reached 11th floor where Adam's cabin was, he literally has two floors for himself, so I will check both floors. He was not there in his office, so maybe he's in his lounge area. I went to the 12th floor and entered the lounge area which had everything one could imagine. I was gawking at the interior designs and amenities present, when I heard a woman's chuckle coming from Adam's room.

I slowly started walking towards his room, her voice started becoming clearer and my heartbeat started becoming like a chopper machine. I reached the door, and it was slightly opened ajar. Adam was sitting relaxed in his comfy chair near big windows with a beautiful view and behind him a hot woman with platinum-blonde hair was touching his cheek and leaning above him showing him something on his laptop.

"Look it was so simple. You should've called me sooner, I would have solved everything for you hottie." The woman spoke as she had this teasing smile on her face while softly brushing her fingers on his face from behind as if seducing him. Adam just scoffed and smirked in response not finding it necessary to reply or remove her hand from his cheek.

I started hyperventilating slowly, I couldn't control this huge pangs in my heart. My eyes started filling with tears unconsciously, and I clutched my fist tight.

I entered the room making a creaking voice of the door, alerting both of them. The woman stood up from the leaning position and rearranged small wrinkles on her dress. Adam also stood up in surprise, he was totally not expecting me to come here. But I had to because this was my last try and change which Adam himself destroyed.

"If you were not interested in me, then you should've told me way before I came here to Dubai. I had asked you many times if you had someone you liked or not! Forget it. It's a waste of time. It's totally my fault, I am the immature one here. I'm really sorry for disturbing your life and you guys. Please enjoy." I said and instantly went outside without glancing back even once. History is repeating.

Adam ran behind me calling out my name. This time I didn't ran away though. I stopped in my tracks. Adam reached near me and turned me around to face him by pulling my arm.

"Brinley you're misunderstanding everything. It's not like what you saw. I am telling you this is a misunderstanding. You are not at fault, it's me. Blame me." He said while huffing. He is not even telling me why she's here and what they were doing and why was she so close to him.

"No. Don't stop me this time. Adam... I... ugh just please forget it. I will not disturb you anymore, and you don't have to worry about my feelings, I'll take care. I'll tell my brother also not to disturb you and let you enjoy this rare vacation. You at least deserve this much for all the hard work you do for our family." I said and again turned around after walking a few steps towards the elevator, I found a trash can. I heard the door closing behind me. I think he went inside the room.

I took out the engagement ring from my purse and in anger and sadness, I slammed it inside the trash can. I know I shouldn't be wasting my money which my family earns with their sweat. But I cannot bring myself to give this ring to somebody else or resell it. I thought after leaving Dubai, we might've become engaged but no. Everything is a fantasy for me. I have had enough of chasing behind my dreams. Now I have to set new goals in my life to move on.

I glanced one last time at the velvet ring box sitting inside the trash can, I clenched my fist to control my flowing tears, and pressed the elevator button in hurry.

I rushed out of the office building, wiping away my tears and hailed a taxi. I booked our private jet back to New York and started packing as soon as I reached Adam's house. Derek, Xavier and Adam, all of them came to know about the flight as soon as I booked as they got notifications.

Adam started calling me, but I switched off my phone. Then the telephone started ringing after a while. I picked up and found out it was Xavier.

"You're coming back?" After a few minutes of silence, I took a deep breath and spoke,

"... Yes, why? I can't?"

"No it's not like you can't. It's your home too, you can go and come whenever you want. But I am trying to ask, is everything okay? Did things work out between you and Adam?" I gasped as soon as I heard his questions. I kept my hand over my mouth and silently started crying. I again took a breath and said in a low voice.

"I'll talk with you after I reach home... Please don't worry about me."

"I feel nothing is alright with you. Okay, leave it. I'll talk with the pilot, come back safely. I love you my little sister, you know right?" I simply nodded my head keeping my hand over my mouth so that he wouldn't hear my cries. Xavier sighed and hanged the call.

"I love you too Fratello...." I said in a low voice and started rolling out my suitcase. When I reached at the main gate, I saw a familiar car coming towards the house in hurry. It was Derek and Adam, they stopped the car near me and came out.

"Are you leaving sister?" Derek asked me. I looked away from them and wiped my tears away.

"Who made you so sad sissy? Tell me I will kill those dogs!!" Derek screeched. But I just stayed silent, waiting for a taxi to pass by.

"Brinley... Please don't go. I'm sorry. It's not your fault. I can explain. She is--"

"I don't want to hear anything. I have heard enough at your office or should I say I heard nothing from you. It was me who was talking sh*t right? I am minding my own business, you mind yours. PLEASE." I said and waved my hand to stop the taxi.

"Come we can drop you sister." Derek said. I just looked at him and smiled slightly. I placed my luggage in the trunk of the taxi and told the driver to go to the Airport.

"Why are you doing this Brinley? Please stop. We can talk this out and sort this. It's not too late." Adam said to me, convincing me, but today I have become a rock, after hitting many times gold and iron takes its shape, but I can't maintain the shape of my heart if I get hit by his feelings again and again in my heart. It's not like it was completely that woman's part of making me give up, she was just a trigger. Mainly it was him. Adam. I had tried for so long to get close to him and try to get him to confess what he shows in his face, but no.

"It's very, very late. I have nothing left to say or hear. I have to reach my home on time. Thank you for giving me a place to sleep and live and goodbye." I closed the door behind me and locked it. Adam knocked on the window continuously and tried to open the door, but I didn't budge even an inch and told the driver to start driving. The driver looked at Adam through his side mirrors sympathetically and started driving the car, Adam screamed my name and fell on his knees as he was rushing behind my taxi.

Again tears started flowing down my cheeks. The driver was very kind-hearted, he offered me a tissue box and few candies he had in his pocket. I smiled and took them, thanking him. He smiled and continued driving. I wiped my tears and decided, I should get control over my emotions. I know it must have been infatuation, I should forget him as soon as possible. I have to make decisions now.

I reached the airport and forcefully gave nice tips to the kind taxi driver. I boarded on our family's plane and my journey back to home started.

(Author's pov)

After Brinley left, Adam went back to his office. He bent down to take out the velvet ring box, Brinley had thrown in the trash can in anger. He was standing there, watching her walk away and throwing something in the trash can. It was the hacker, the woman, who had come out of his room and shut the door behind her, walking away.

Adam looked inside the box and stared at the platinum-diamond ring which sparkled in the light and showed its amazing charm and beauty. A tear slipped out of his eyes and trailed down. He took the tears in his hand and stared at them. He didn't know what this was. Not only that, but he had this weird pain-feeling in his chest. He remembered again and again how Brinley went away from him.
