Angelo looked down at his wife and smiled. He could not believe that Emily had been upset because he did not wear a wedding band on his ring finger. He lifted his hand, looked at his wedding ring, and stopped smiling. He could not understand why he had no ring on his finger.
"What?" Emily questioned him once she noticed that he was looking lost.
"What happened to my wedding band?" he asked, and Emily went blank.
'That is because you were never married, Angelo," Emily thought to herself, but she knew that telling Angelo that would only open up multiple avenues of questions.
"Uhm, I— I think you lost it somewhere, and I guess you never replaced it," she lied instantly. Deep down, she was disappointed in herself for how easily she was beginning to lie.
"Really?"
"Yes! You think I'd lie to you?" she asked nervously and impatiently awaited Angelo's response, and just when she thought all hopes were lost, Angelo broke out into a smile.
