Mia stepped into the house. She has her own key. Given to her by me.
At that very moment, unknowing to her, the girls were indoors. The door was never locked, though her key in the keyhole gave her the proof.
She tiptoed after hearing weird noises coming from the room upstairs.
She walked her way carefully to the couch with the shopping bags in her arms.
Too heavy from the way she was holding them still.
The girls are coming downstairs, gisting and chuckling and they discuss about something.
Mia stood with a great frown right on her face. Her both hands settled on her waist. "Who the hell gave you two the permission to break into someone else's home?"
Hmm, her words are harsh!
Ava and Aria weren't surprised anyway. This wasn't her hope either, so what the hell is she doing in another person's apartment when she currently has hers?
The identical twins mocked and sneered at her. They never replied to that, infact, they made their way towards the refrigerator for a glass of juice.
This made Mia's face turn red. Spiritually, one could see steams coming out of her nostrils.
Furious.
"Not only are you girls buglers and bandits but also disrespectful." She snapped at them. If only she could walk up to them and visit them with a hot dirty slap.
Mia gritted her teeth and clenched her fists tightly. "I told Mabel, these girls are up to something." She mumbled underneath her breath. "How on earth did they got in? Did Mabel gave them keys?"
She questioned herself. Mia could see properly that there are no linkage in the apartment. Nor is the roof broken, then how did they got in?
If she can fully remember, she saw them leaving the house this morning. Mabel was the last to leave, including her.
Speaking of me, I walked into the apartment.
A cool silent greatest me, welcome ma'am.
I saw Ava and Aria drinking juice at the dinning room. As soon as they saw me, they ran towards me to help me with the bags.
That wasn't what I was concerned about. I was in the middle of confusion with my brain and unanswerable questions.
How did they unlock the door and- "Oh..." I gasped, Ava and Aria are both putting on my t-shirt.
I mean to say, baggy gowns which covered them to all body parts. From up to toes.
They had to tie the tip so they won't accidentally step on it and end up falling helplessly.
The dress is a original oversize.
I battled hard to hold back the foolish laughter coming up already. A pop of it in my cheek, inside my mouth like I'm making bubbles in my mouth.
I covered my mouth and put on a neutral expression. "How did you guys got in? I thought-"
"Good question, Mabel." Mia cut me off, her narrow eyes not leaving the girls sight. "You need to see how disrespectful they are. They shut me up when I first asked."
I looked at Ava and Aria, they're already putting on a cute sad face filled with pity. Like a lost kitty.
I have no other option. It's been a hard working day for me today. I haven't eaten anything since morning.
I skipped breakfast and now, I think I'm almost skipping lunch as well.
My asthmatic drugs are left behind, I haven't had the morning dose yet because I left the house so early today. And now, I have to become a judge for these people and their issues too?
My eyes rolled. God knows how much tired I am right now.
I slumped lazily on the couch without saying anything. I slouched to take off my cheap slippers from my feet.
Mia sat next to me. Ava quickly helped me with my indoors slippers. I wonder how she knew the in and out in my apartment.
Seems like she's been with me all my life.
Aria came with a glass of water. These girls are more than a blessing, I swear. How caring they are.
Whereas Mia is just sitting beside me, watching with a weird look on her face.
I gulped the enter glass in just one go. "Thanks dearies." I said to my precious angels whom are busy helping me out.
In no time, I managed to make lunch for us including the uninvited guest, Mia. Helping hands including the twins and Mia. Thanks to them.
Mia left thirty minutes later, after lunch.
I and the girls are still at the dinning room. Seated on the dinning chairs.
I bet I ate more than enough. I feel like a pregnant woman right now.
I watched Aria cleared up the dishes, taking them all to the sink in the kitchen.
I sat back, relaxing and rubbing my stomach with one hand. We just finished Shrimps Creole dish.
I was almost dozing off to sleep, but then I just remembered something. "Bernard!" My eyes widened at the gasp of my words.
I haven't heard from my son since morning.
God forgive me. What type of mother am I, anyway?
I grabbed my phone instantly and dialed my son, my only son's number. It ringed once, twice, thrice... Not an answer yet.
I tried, same thing.
Maybe he's having lectures in class right now. I'll try again later, according to the answering machine at the background.
"Aunt, is everything alright?" Ava asked me.
She witnessed the wanly look on my face. I can't hide it. I sighed tiredly, and shook my head with a forced smile which seem so light. "Yes dear."
"You can count on us, just in case you need anything. Even if it has to do with cash." Aria told me with an assuring smile.
Both girls has dimples on their cheeks, making them look so fairy like Disney princesses. I too had dimples, it's normal. Right?
"Just in-" I shook my head vigorously with a quick smile. "It's alright dear, I'm fine. I'm just being concerned about my son."
"Aunt, do you mind telling us about your son?" Ava took the chair close to me and sat next to me. Sitting anti-cross on the chair with her chin and arms rested at the top.
I didn't and don't want to tell them about Bernard yet, but they aren't missionary agents, right?
"I have clothes to sew for customers, maybe some other time." I tried to dodge the question and further questions from coming up.
But these kids are so smart. It never stopped there. "Aunt, how old is your son?"
"Where's your husband?"
"Why are you living alone?"
"Is-"
"Okay fine!" I had to stop the curious impatient questions.
I think my voice sends shiver down the girls spines. They kept quiet ASAP, frozed.
I don't want to go deep into details right now. My life on it's own is already a long story to talk of.
I sighed. Tears gathered in my eyes as I remember something. My late fiancé. Liam Hamilton, formerly called Liam Flynn. Bernard's father. I lost him when Bernard was only five months old.
The girls stared at both themselves with a is she okay? Look. And then faced me.
I massaged my forehead with my palms. Oh no, not ready to put up with the migraine thing again.
"How did you guys got in?" I asked still rubbing my forehead with my face looking down on the dinning table.
I'm not in the mood of gazing at anyone right now. Be you anybody.
"We um... We..." Aria stammered. She's still trying to pick on the best word for self defense.
Ava glared at her, bitting her lower lips. Aria nail-biting. Both girls are scared. Hope it's not what they're thinking. Kicked out of the house for being a bugler and bandit.
I knew something like this was revolving round their heads. I sighed and looked up at them.
At the time they saw me, they bug-eyed.
