She finally looked out the window, the sky had already turned dark three hours ago with so many twinkling stars. She frowned and looked at her parents who had been quiet for a while. It made her wish that she could read minds, especially her father's. Olympia noticed how furious Patrick was when she was questioning that vampire. It made her suspicious about everything happening.
She looked out the window again to avoid her parents' creepy stares, Luana looked worried as hell while Patrick looked furious as usual.
Olympia noticed that there were so many carriages ahead of them and beside them, it made the road bright due to the lanterns that were fixed on the carriages. Olympia was now convinced that they were heading to the castle and it cleared her thoughts about the vampire being an assassin. Earlier, when he showed them the dragon seal badge, she didn't believe him at all but she loved risks so she took it.
Olympia continued looking out side until furious Patrick said,
"Quit that and behave yourself"
"Patrick, why are you being harsh?" Luana asked and tapped his shoulder to snap him out of his furious expression and thoughts. "Olympia sit comfortably, do not look outside, we don't want to attract any attention, we are already close to the castle"
Olympia pouted and sat back comfortably, "I don't understand what attention we will attract when we are in a carriage and when I am wearing a mask. Why are you two punishing me like this and acting so stern with me especially you father"
Luana closed her eyes and shook her head negatively. What was going to happen? She totally missed the part of her daughter always being straightforward with her thoughts, words and behavior.
"Could we change the topic? I don't want to bicker" Olympia added with a deep sigh.
"The Jonas were invited, did I tell you about that?" Luana suddenly asked. She succeeded in diverting everything to a smooth conversation.
"Not really, but I am glad that they will see the dress Mrs Jonas made on me tonight" Olympia replied with a smile.
"All the nobles were invited, it is not a surprise that the king invited them" Patrick voice hardened, he narrowed his brown eyes at his masked daughter who sighed and bowed her head.
"Do you think the king is a good man father? I am sure you have heard the rumors about him, so why are you marrying me off to him?" Olympia's voice was small and filled with her curiosity and current pain.
Luana eyes widened with shock at Olympia's sudden utterance, she tapped Patrick who was about to explode in anger but he didn't look at her.
"It's hard to say whether he is a good man or not and we have no choice but to marry him off to you" Said Patrick unexpectedly calmly even with his furious expression.
"No choice... I understand," Said Olympia without lifting her head.
"Olympia, we are doing this for a better cause" Patrick finally calmed down and Olympia finally lifted her head to look at her parents.
"I understand," Olympia smiled brightly.
"Do not cause any trouble when you are there" Patrick frowned and pointed at her.
Olympia swallowed hard and laughed nervously. "Of course I won't"
She couldn't make that promise, her body itches if she didn't do what she wanted to do and right now, she is targeting mooncakes. She turned her head back to the window to look at the trees.
They finally neared the castle and could see glimpses of it from afar, and they continued to ride in the carriage. Olympia clutched her ball gown tightly. It was a masquerade ball, how would the king recognize her? She smiled mischievously and vowed that won't remove her mask no matter the situation. She wouldn't be able to recognize him too so it was a win win.
Olympia got up and looked out the window, they had passed the decorated gate, the land was so vast and the gardens and trees made her think that maybe the vampire was an assassin after all and had killed her and sent her to heaven. Olympia saw so many heads looking out of their carriages admiring how unreal and beautiful their surroundings were.
She sat back down, arranged her mask and inhaled because they were almost to the entrance of the castle.
The carriage finally stopped and the door was opened. Patrick and Luana got out of the carriage first and Olympia followed by declining the outstretched hand of the masked vampire and got down herself making sure that she didn't step on her dress.
The vampire folded his hand into a fist and chuckled while Patrick glared furiously at nonchalant Olympia. Some servants came and surrounded Olympia, they helped her straighten her beautiful white dress.
"Thank you" Olympia said gratefully and bowed to them after they finished fixing her dress. They also bowed, smiled and walked away.
"I will see you around" The vampire unexpectedly said to Olympia and walked away while some guards rode the carriage away.
"Why did you reject his hand? Didn't you hear him when he said that he is someone special to the king?" Patrick asked angrily.
Olympia pouted. "I did, it is just that I could come down myself and didn't want to bother him" Olympia half lied.
"Of course" Luana sighed and shook her head negatively while Olympia grinned mischievously.
.
The castle was enormous, it was lit up with fire torches and extremely beautiful. Olympia pouted her lips as she admired the structure. It was bigger than the town she lived in.
There were so many carriages around and everyone stepped out all looking magnificent and classy with their masks. Though not everyone wore masks like Patrick and Luana.
The guards directed the men and women to the wide open doors of the castle entrance that had mysterious yet beautiful cravings on them.
Olympia and her parents walked out the small steps of stairs and into the castle. Olympia continued looking around in awe, the ceilings were beautifully painted and the chandeliers that had candles on them lit up like fire torches.
Patrick and Luana noticed their daughter who was embarrassing them as if she hadn't seen expensive things before. The nobles were walking elegantly though they were stunned and left speechless by the decor and beauty of the castle, they wanted to be classy and elegant.
"Let's go to the main ballroom" Luana said with the hope that she would snap Olympia out.
"Look at that painting" Olympia gasped and pointed. "It looks as if it just got painted"
A couple passed the masked curious girl who they knew would be obviously even more beautiful without the mask. They snickered at her and whispered to themselves.
"How embarrassing!" The man whispered. "If I were with her, I would prefer to keep her back home" The woman whispered.
Olympia heard them loud and clear but didn't react since she was lost in the beauty of the painting. "They may be old paintings that got repainted because of the ball, they are so mysterious and exquisite don't you think mother and father?" She asked and finally looked at her angry looking father and worried looking mother.
"We didn't come to the museum Olympia," Patrick growled.
Olympia hand dropped and joined her other hand to hold up her ball gown. "I know, I am just bothered, I don't want to go in" She admitted and bowed her head.
"You will do good if you don't make any trouble tonight Olympia" Luana told her calmly and Olympia lifted her head and nodded.
The men and women that passed by noticed the golden haired girl in the silver mask, just by her dress, pale milky glowing skin, her small pink heart shaped lips, they knew she was a beauty. Majority that passed by, their eyes were filled with curiosity and envy.
They all knew that it was the first time the king had ever arranged a ball to the extent of inviting humans, they didn't know his motive behind it but each of them felt power oozing out of her.
"I won't cause any trouble, stop saying that and when have I ever caused any trouble?" Olympia asked confidently.
Luana and Patrick looked at each other then back at their daughter who was so proud of herself.
"Be serious Olympia, don't forget what you are here for" Patrick reminded sternly.
Olympia pouted, she almost groaned in frustration but she controlled herself and forced a smile then nodded.
"Of course I know, why won't I know, I read the letter, I got the dress, the mask, I am at the ball, of course I know, I am focused and not dumb" Said Olympia, sure and dramatically.
Patrick and Luana, even not convinced, nodded and sighed deeply in chorus at their daughter. They hoped everything went well even though they were very confused about everything.
Olympia smiled proudly as her parents turned away, they all took slow steps heading to the main ballroom.
"Of course, I know, I am coming for you mooncakes"
