Chapter 43

“How long did you and Donovan see each other?” she asked.

Here we go. “For two years.”

She nodded. “You have good taste in men, and I’m not just saying that because you’re seeing my son.”

That made me laugh.

Jennifer looked at her hands. “I knew Donovan was gay when I was seeing him.”

I almost spit out my whiskey. “Really?” I asked after swallowing and clearing my throat.

She nodded. “I didn’t always know, but I found out right before we broke up. I saw him in a car with a guy one night. They were kissing.”

“I take it he didn’t see you.”

“No, and I never said anything to him about it. I wanted to confront him, but I wasn’t sure what to say. I wasn’t mad, I was just disappointed that he hadn’t been honest with me. Then I found out I was pregnant and I had other things to deal with, so I just let it go. I broke up with him anyway, so it didn’t matter anymore.”

“Why didn’t you tell Donovan you were pregnant?”
