Chapter 5: Rejection from Second Chance Mate

Cecilia's POV

"This case is settled. Cecilia is now Alpha Denver's mate." My father announced and all the elders' agreed.

Henry was still reluctant, he didn't want to accept the rejection but when he noticed that his argument would lead to a futile end and that I was truly Denver's second chance mate, he sighed heavily and stormed out of the hall.

"Alpha Denver, please excuse me and my daughter." My father said after the elders' bowed and left the hall. Denver agreed.

"My darling - -" My father approached me with his eyes filled with tears.

We could only share affection in secret because he was trying to please the overbearing elders'. my father married two wives, though my mother was human and his second chance mate. They saw me as a curse, not because of anything but because they felt my mother must have passed down some evil medical skill to me. That way, my father limited visiting me in other to keep his position.

I embraced him tightly, sobbing and snuggling up in his arms. He strokes my back gently while kneeling.

"You have suffered a lot." He supported me to stand up while I staggered. Slowly, we walked back to his throne and I sat beside him on the throne.

He stroked my unkempt hair away from my face, and quickly used his napkin to clean my dirty face.

"Did he touch you? I mean that son of a bastard?" My father asked anxiously and I shook my head.

"And Denver? Do you think he is your mate too?" My father questioned after a brief silence.

"I think so, Ariel was so calm and somehow connected with his wolf," I explained to him with a low voice.

"I give you my blessings, my dear." He smiled at me. "Who's there?!" He called out with a loud voice, I was a little bit startled.

"Yes, my lord." A gamma guard rushed in and fell on his knee.

"Send Lady Cecilia back to - -" He began but he touched his hand, stopping him halfway. He faced me.

"You don't have to do that, Father. I came with Anna, she will walk me back." I assured him with a warm smile and he nodded.

I knew news might spread if he acted nicer than he already was. At least it was printed in my heart that he loved me and would protect me in any way he can.

I stood from his throne, bowed, and left through the back door. I felt his gaze on me but I didn't turn because his look might make me feel empty and reluctant to leave.

Everything went back to normal two days after Henry's birthday. My days became peaceful and I didn't bother to prepare for his second coming.

The truth always replayed in my head that I now had a mate. I would always think of him that moment when he stepped in to save me. His charming face, manly figure, strong build, and long black hair. His sharp ocean-blue eyes still made me shy and his intimidating aura left me nervous. Reminiscing how beautiful his voice sounded, I was left in a daze.

He was super kind to me and very handsome, having him as my mate was a dream come true.

I didn't know when I started humming and smiling brightly until Anna nudged me.

"My lady, if you keep acting like this, you might end up making love potions for the entire pack." She teased me and I laughed.

"What do you mean?" I blushed, walking away from her.

"You found your mate, right?" She wiggled her brow, mischievously as she rushed and stood in front of me. I swallowed hard trying not to leave any trace because Anna was good at uncovering my secret.

"No." I batted my lashes.

"Greeting to you, Alpha." Suddenly, Anna bowed. I have never seen her so shy, timid, and scared before.

I turned backward and saw him standing before me, his hands were tucked in his trouser pocket and he flashed me a smile.

"Alpha Denver," I muttered.

I never knew anyone would visit me here after all these years, it was more like an abandoned place with bad influence, and everyone avoided my tent.

A few minutes later, Anna served us tea in the small yard tent and left. I cleared my throat, wondering why he came here and wasn't intending to speak.

For some reason, I was shy and felt my cheeks becoming hotter. He gulped the tea and looked at me, my eyes malingered.

"Cecilia, I want you to join me back to my pack." His word came unexpectedly and my heart skipped.

He was asking me to return to his hometown with him, I couldn't help but nod apathetically with a smile on my face.

"Yes, I will." I don't know if this was love at first sight or if I was charmed. I just felt comfortable being around him and knew that our affection was the same for each other. Finally, I was done and over with suffering and being lonely. It was time for me to welcome happiness and care.

"But, I hope you won't have any intention of loving me because I only want you to be my Luna since it's crucial for my pack." He began, staring at me coldly. My heart melted. "I don't like you and I hope you would do the same. I need the power and your medical skill while you need the title." He rubbed his forehead. I stared at him in dismay, inwardly cursing myself for overthinking.

"So, will you still join me?" He curled his lips, urging me with his eyes.

I didn't know if I was doing the right thing at this moment but I felt it was the needful.

"Yes, I will," I said confidently, accepting to let in the worse that my future held.
