As they walked, Wald reached out and took Madison's hand. "Whatever comes," he said softly, "we face it together."

Madison squeezed his hand, drawing strength from his touch. The forest around them seemed to press in closer, branches reaching out like gnarled fingers. She couldn't shake the feeling that unseen eyes watched their every move.

"So," she said, breaking the tense silence, "we're looking for the White Wolf clan. Any idea where to start?"
