The pawn shop

A week had passed since Levi got the warning from Adam to learn how to perform magic or he would be expelled from the school. Unfortunately, he was getting nowhere with finding a solution for that problem.

On the bright side, he knew everything there was to know about demons thanks to Kylie. He and Kylie had gotten closer over the past week. He liked her personality and valued her as a friend.

Eliot had also grown fond of her. The three of them sat together during all meals and hung out during their free time.

Levi was in his room getting dressed in casual clothes so he could go to the city because it was Saturday. He wanted to trade his panther canines for gold coins and find a solution to one of his many problems.

The Mother of Demons was coming for him and he had yet to practice fighting and using the sword he had bought with the rest of the canines.

The dungeon was off limits so he had to find a way to fight so he could level up and become strong enough to stand against his enemies.

He wore the hoodie over his head and opened the door to leave. Eliot was standing outside with his hand lifted to knock.

"Where are you going? " Eliot asked.

"To the city. Did you need something? "

"I wanted to ask if you're going so we could go together. I never went last time so I'm curious to see the city. "

Levi wanted to say no. He couldn't exactly trade the canines for money when Eliot was watching. He would have to explain where he got them and how.

However, he had already told Eliot he was going so he couldn't just leave without him. Eliot was one of his only two friends. If he wanted to stay alive, he needed to keep it that way.

No man was an island. He needed friends.

"Okay, but I have things to do. I might ditch you. "

"That's okay. "

The two walked in silence out of the dorms. Kylie was waiting outside for us when we got there. Levi thought she looked cute in her tiny leather shorts, boots, and crop top.

"You look good, " he complimented as they headed to the gate. His comment had been innocent but Kylie took it as more than that. She blushed and whispered a 'thank you'.

"Have you been to the city before? " Eliot asked Kylie.

"Yes. I went to check out bookstores last time. Too bad I couldn't afford any of the books they were selling. "

Levi glanced at her and then stared ahead. Kylie's background was still a mystery. They only knew her age and her magic ability. Nothing else. She was dodgy about her origin and past.

In fact, she never talked about herself unless someone asked. It was very weird and Levi didn't like it. He hated mysteries especially now that he had a lineup of enemies that wanted to take him down.

Then again, he was keeping a lot from Eliot too.

Eliot and Kylie maintained a conversation while Levi listened. He didn't offer his input unless he was asked for it. Whenever they made jokes, he only smiled but never laughed.

"What happened with Roman? " Kylie asked. "It seems like he left you alone. "

Levi knew why. He and Cora had gotten back together. He remembered that when he found out he was disappointed with Cora.

He had listened to her rant about how Roman was a bad boyfriend only for her to turn around and get back with him. He wondered if she had stopped feeling exhausted from their relationship.

Levi felt like his time had been wasted. He regretted ever speaking to her at that bar. He had gotten in a lot of trouble for it and it had all been for nothing.

Women were complex and confusing. One minute they hated their boyfriend and the next they were head over heels for him again. He didn't think he would ever understand how their minds worked.

"Don't jinx it. He might come for me not that you've mentioned him. "

Kylie giggled and playfully punched Levi on the arm. Eliot watched their exchange wondering how Levi could be oblivious. Kylie clearly liked him.

"I have to go meet my friends so we can window shop for clothes and jewelry. See you guys around. " She said and left.

The guys waved at her and continued with their journey in the city. Eliot was caught in a trance as he admired everything around him. Sunaru was truly a beautiful planet. When he was over his shock, he started a conversation.

"She totally likes you, " Eliot said. If his friend couldn't see it, he was going to tell him. He wouldn't let Levi miss the chance to be with a nice girl like Kylie.

"Who? "

"Kylie, you idiot. "

"She doesn't like me. It's just a little crush that will pass. I had one on her too and now it's gone. " Levi said.

He had liked Kylie like that but when he discovered how good a friend she was, he decided not to risk it.

Plus she was smart and she read a lot of books. He needed her knowledge and IQ more than he wanted her.

"If you say so…"

The two guys walked around for about an hour before Levi spotted a pawn shop.

"Hey, I want to sell something. Wait for me here. " He said and turned to enter the pawn shop.

A woman stood behind the counter reading a book. She had piercings on her nose, ears, lips, and eyebrows. Her dark hair was in a messy bun and she was dressed in gothic clothes.

"Hello. I want to sell something. "

She took her eyes off the book and looked at Levi from head to toe. There was amusement in her features as she wondered what he wanted to sell her. What did he have of value that she would want?

"What? "

Levi looked around nervously to see if there was anyone else. The last thing he wanted was to get robbed in a pawn shop.

All he could see were items that looked of very high value. There were swords, whips, daggers, gold, jewelry, and teeth from beasts.

"Don't worry. I won't hurt you, " the lady said but he didn't believe her. Lately, he found it hard to trust people.

There was no reason that the girl was lying to him. She was young but she was definitely older than Levi. Maybe she wasn't even the owner of the place and was just working a shift.

"I want to sell two canines belonging to the Mars Panther. "

The girl's eyes widened. Those were very valuable and rare to find.

"Are you interested? " Levi asked impatiently when she took too long to answer.

"Can I see them?"

"You'll see them when you tell me how much you're going to give me for them. "

"Where did you get those teeth? Would you like me to call your school and tell them what you're selling? Give me the teeth and go and maybe I won't call them on you. "

He should have never gone to sell those teeth with the badge of the academy on his jumper. He should have known she would try and get the teeth for free.
