26 Learn to Let Go
When Li Qin Yao exited her grandfather's office, a maid was waiting outside. She walked back and forth, anxiously with her head down. When she heard the door creaked open, the maid looked up and looked at Li Qin Yao with relief.
"Young Miss," the maid greeted politely. "Is the Old Master inside the room? The guests were waiting for him downstairs."
"Grandfather should be out soon," Li Qin Yao said. "You should head downstairs and let others know that they should get ready." She watched the maid head downstairs and followed after her.
When Li Qin Yao walked down the stairs, many of her grandfather's guests have arrived and were socializing among themselves. Once they saw Li Qin Yao, they immediately greeted her politely.
Every one of them had heard of Li Qin Yao's scandal not long ago. Although no one talked about the scandal anymore, none of them had forgotten about it. However, since Li Qin Yao was Chairman Li's granddaughter, and they were only guests, they had no other choice but to greet Li Qin Yao properly.
Most of the guests had not seen her ever since Li Qin Yao left the capital after her scandal. Instead concerned over her well being, they were curious to know about her life after she resigned from LQ Group.
Since she had appeared on the company's celebration, then it was possible that Li Qin Yao might return to the company. If that were the case, then it would be wise if they treat her nicely, or else, they might be the ones who received the short end of the stick in the future.
Li Qin Yao had a brief chat with the others before she excused herself. She grabbed a drink from the table and went to the side and sat down alone. She took out her phone and checked her email.
Her grandfather had sent some file attachments regarding the new project in B City.
She let out a chuckle before clicking on the file.
Her grandfather knew her so well.
He must have guessed that Li Qin Yao would be interested in the new project once he showed her the proposal. Once he had her attention, it would be difficult for her to reject his request to lead the project in B City.
In the end, Li Qin Yao agreed to help her grandfather.
By accepting her grandfather's offer, it does not mean that Li Qin Yao wanted to return to the LQ Group back to her previous position. She was only interested in the project after she had seen the proposal.
Moreover, she knew that if she rejected her grandfather's offer, she would regret it. This might be her only chance to prove herself to the others.
Just as she was engrossed in reading the information on her phone, Li Qin Yao heard footsteps heading to her direction. She immediately pushed the power button and looked up.
A slight frown appeared on her face as she watched her aunt, Zhao Wei, and her daughter, Li Mu Chen.
Li Qin Yao immediately stood up and greeted her aunt. Although she did not like her aunt, as the younger generation, she could only behave obediently. Li Qin Yao would never give any chance for others to talk badly about her parents. How she acted would only show how she was raised and taught by her parents.
"Isn't this is the person who was responsible for LQ Group to fall after her scandal?" Zhao Wei raised her brow and sneered.
"Auntie," Li Qin Yao pretended that she did not hear the ridicule in her aunt's tone. She turned to her cousin and smiled.
"I didn't think that you would be here as well," Zhao Wei said.
"It is my grandfather's birthday," Li Qin Yao pointed out. "Why wouldn't I come? Although I have not joined the grandfather's birthday celebration for the past two years, it doesn't mean that I have forgotten his birthday."
In the last two years, Li Qin Yao had never attended any company's celebration. Even though she had returned to the capital a few times, she had never met with her grandfather. Usually, on his birthday, Li Qin Yao would meet up with her grandmother instead of delivering presents for her grandfather.
Although her grandmother had tried to coax Li Qin Yao to return to Li's mansion, Li Qin Yao would not budge. After all, her grandfather chose to trust others during her scandal. It took her a while before she can learn to let go.
"Cousin sister, my mother, was only curious since you did not attend the celebration for the past two years," Li Mu Chen said. She bit on her lips and tugged on her mother's sleeves.
The smile on Li Qin Yao's lips widened as she heard her cousin's words. She had no intention to reply. Living with the Li family for so long, Li Qin Yao had long understood that her simple words could turn into something else. If that were the case, then it would be best if she remained quiet and avoid those people.
However, how was she supposed to avoid the mother and daughter without gaining any unwanted attention to herself? How should she find an excuse to walk away?
