How About You Be My Queen?

Queen?

Ronan was quite surprised by the question just now. All this time, he had gone through the day without thinking about getting a partner.

Ah, maybe several times, some dukes had introduced their daughters or female relatives to him in the hope that he would be interested in any one of them, but all ended up with Ronan ignoring them all.

Several times, William also asked him to find a life partner. At least he needed someone to help him take care of the kingdom. However, Ronan was still able to do it himself.

The late king and queen of Northendell died when Ronan was still young. They hadn't had time to set him up with a princess or any noblewoman. Ronan ascended the throne alone. He was blessed by Priest Louise, the predecessor priest before Priest Elis.

The former queen was in charge of assisting the king by managing the Whitethorn Palace as well as the Cathedral. And now… he could do it himself. He didn't need a queen.

"Because I don't need it?" Ronan shrugged.

"Why is it like that? Doesn't every king need a queen to give him offspring who will continue the bloodline and take charge of his kingdom?" Arielle frowned at the answer. It felt like this was essential.

"Ah, that reason…."

Ronan smiled somberly. Did he want to pass down the misfortune that was running in his blood? Arielle was an ignorant outsider of Northendell palace. The misfortune passed down by his ancestors made Ronan become alone at a young age. He lost both his parents due to the curse!

Ronan didn't want to bother explaining all that to a stranger who would be leaving soon.

His hands clenched into fists, feeling displeased with his own thoughts. Ronan suddenly felt a conflict rising within him. Arielle being brought here as a prisoner and returning her back to her Kingdom was natural, right? But why was he feeling displeased about it?

"How about you just be my queen?" the man asked suddenly, causing Arielle to stop her movements. The young woman's mouth parted open with her hand raised as she held on the Frostberry plate.

Arielle was very surprised to hear Ronan's words. Her brain could not digest if it was a joke the king had made. She hesitated. Should she respond by laughing or what? The mask prevented Arielle from judging Ronan's expression.

Ronan was happy when he saw that he managed to make the girl in front of him speechless. He lifted the bottom of his mask a little and leaned in to bite the Frostberry from Arielle's hand. As a result of his action, Frostberry juice spilled a little on the princess' hand.

Ronan didn't need a handkerchief though, all he needed was his tongue. Just with his tongue, he was able to lick the stream of juice on the girl's index finger and thumb.

Arielle's heart started beating really fast like someone who had just finished running a marathon as she watched him.

Ronan gave the last small lick in between Arielle's index finger and thumb. Arielle withdrew her hand quickly. She looked at Ronan with a look of horror that made the man smile briefly.

"Hmm? So? Do you want to be my queen?" Ronan offered once more.

Arielle clutched her chest, hoping the pounding would calm down. She cleared her throat to get rid of her nervousness.

"Yo-Your Majesty! Y-you can't talk like that!"

Ronan rested his back against the back of the sofa and adjusted his mask. "Speak like what?"

"Choosing the Queen is not a joke, Your Majesty…"

"Do I look like I'm making a joke?"

Arielle studied the sharp red eyes from behind the mask. "I-I don't know, I can't judge because of the mask you're wearing."

"Then?"

Arielle took a deep breath to normalize her heartbeat. She rose from the man's lap. Arielle immediately kept her distance as Ronan tried to reach out his hand to drag her back into his lap with no success.

Ronan couldn't help but sigh, annoyed when Arielle chose to sit on the sofa in front of him.

"Your Majesty… when looking for a candidate for a Queen, you cannot be so careless. Even though I never got an education in the palace, at least I know about the criteria for a queen. At least a queen should be able to read and write!" Arielle said firmly.

Ronan rested his right foot on top of his left while he clasped both of his hands on his lap. Although the man was not too interested in the topic of their conversation, Arielle was looking serious as she lectured him. Now he knew he couldn't help but appreciate Arielle by listening carefully.

"Moreover, a large kingdom like Northendell needs a queen who can provide political stability for the successor to the throne during a power struggle."

"I am the sole heir to the Northendell throne. There would be no power struggle to worry about."

Arielle raised her hand in a silent gesture, motioning Ronan not to interrupt her. Ronan, who received such treatment for the first time, was quite surprised. This princess looked very serious and didn't feel at all guilty that she had just told a King to shut up.

Arielle herself got too carried away. She forgot that the man in front of her was a king, not her servant, Tania. She ended up forgetting that she should not be presumptuous and tell the king to be quiet.

"Even though you are the sole heir, you need to be vigilant. What if a distant cousin of yours is jealous and wants the Northendell throne? You must have help from your partner's side!"

Ronan's laughter suddenly echoed in the rooms. He found her words very funny.

"Them? I doubt they even dare look me in the eye," Ronan quipped.

Arielle looked at Ronan disinterestedly. The girl only raised her eyebrows and made Ronan silent again. Ah, that was the same expression the king always gave William when he wouldn't stop talking.

Ronan cleared his throat. He felt strange. Damn, was this the karma he received for his attitude to William? Now he felt guilty about doing it to his personal bodyguard.
