Chapter 1PROLOG

"How are you, Erika?"

Erika Kumala's eyes never stopped stare at Edo Gumilar, her gaze stopped for a moment to look around. She looked like a confused person. Her gaze shifted to the nameplate and position's name engraved on the gilded wood, right in the center of the table. The man was real, not just a fantasy. He didn't seem to have changed at all. In fact, He is more mature and charming than she had ever remembered. "Edo?"

"Long time no see."

Erika tried to stand up straight by holding onto the edge of the table, trying not stagger. Suddenly, her mouth felt dry. It seemed like saying "Nice to meet you." is not to appropriate response under these circumstances. Edo gave a familiar greeting that actually sounded foreign to her ears. From what he said, Edo wasn't surprised at all when he saw Erika entered the room. In fact, he tends to have been waiting for this day for a long time.

"What are you doing here?"

"Working. This is my office."

"Is this a joke?"

"Does any of us laughing?"

Edo said in casually. Actually, Erika felt hot and cold at that moment. And likely, she could forget her wish to grab her own hair this time. The blood flow in her brain seemed to be blocked and she doubted whether the blood could flow smoothly again. To cover up her surprise, Erika gave a short laugh, "This is my boss's office"

"Now, your boss's office is mine"

"What does mean?"

"Your boss is not your boss."

"What do you talking about?"

Edo, who had been standing for a long time, crossed his legs with one hand tucked into his trouser pocket in the corner of the bookcase. He started walking slowly towards his desk. "You think I lost my mind? Cause just broke into people's office that I don't know?"

"That's what I thought when I came here"

"It seems, the six years you worked here did not make you know your boss well."

"And you know her well than I. Is that you want to say?"

"Yes, it exactly that was I mean."

Erika's face was bright red with anger. She bent over the table with her hands resting on it. "Stop your bullshit"

"No, I don't say crap like you said. Exactly, I want to know that you ever pay attention every documents which is you asked to sign for?"

"Don't play words with me."

"Listen, that what was I trying to say is, Do you notice what the written on the below of her name? It does clearly her position as a head branch. That was mean---?"

They looked at each other on the glossy surface of Edo's table. Erika looked away first, as if she had just realized the situation. This can't be happening, Erika thought. She hope that all of this was just a dream. Entered this room and saw Edo who's standing with smiling which is remembered so well just hinting at a challenge that she couldn't refuse.

"T-That means…"

"I am the owner of this company."

The bomb has been dropped. Knowing that Edo still remembered her very clearly, Erika couldn't deny the existence of that man then or now.

That is, until the day a mysterious man appears, turning her world upside down with a shocking request to come with him to the Divenson Mansion and prepare for her wedding. Left with no other choice, Maddie is swept away to the world of the elite—a world she doesn’t belong to. At the Divenson mansion, she is met not with kindness, but cold, judgmental stares from Hunter’s parents, who make it clear she is not welcome. Her future sister-in-law despises her. Her future brother-in-law’s eyes make her skin crawl. The only warmth she finds comes from a sweet twelve-year-old girl in the household who clings to Maddie like a little sister and makes the overwhelming luxury a little more bearable. Then she meets Hunter. He’s everything she didn’t expect—charming in front of others, but distant and cold when they are alone. Maddie falls for him despite herself. How could she not? His presence commands attention, and his rare moments of gentleness feel like stolen sunshine. But her heart shattered when he told her the reason for their marriage. “We’re married on paper, nothing more. I don’t have time for love. And I can’t love someone like you. Don’t expect that just because we are married, I’ll ever love you. All I need is an heir to my empire.” The words cut deeper than she thought possible. Maddie was humiliated, heartbroken, and trapped. And she made a decision to divorce her husband. But her request jolts something inside Hunter he didn’t know he could feel, the fear of losing her. As she begins pulling away from him, he realizes the truth he’d been too blind to see: he loves his wife. Can Hunter win back the woman he once dismissed?
