"Mommy, I'm home", Julie plopped herself onto the sofa, "Someone confessed to me again today, seriously your daughter is so popular" she continued, "Well it's a given, I am a beauty after all", Julie turned toward the kitchen counter, "Mo-", she paused as she met eye with a tall and handsome figure, hands in his pocket, leaning against the fridge. He gave her a slight smile.
"Julie ?", Mrs. Lee blurted, taking her steps down the stairs, "When did you get home?" Mrs. Lee asked, making her way toward the kitchen counter, "Oh, Aiden!" she exclaimed. "Since when did you get here?"
Mrs. Lee turned to her daughter, "Say Hi, he's your brother's friend, Aiden Park, Mr. Park's son".Julie shot up, straightened her shirt, and bowed "Hello, Brother", her face turning red. "Hi!" he replied, smiling.
"Aiden!" a man called out as he pushed open the door, "I got us some tteokbokki" he exclaimed. Mrs. Lee frowned, crossing her arms, "Jason! Why did you leave your friend to his own company when you were the one inviting him over?". Jason jumped into his defense, "He was hungry, so I went out to get him some food".
"Did you get me anything?" Julie joined in. "Nope, bought enough for two people" he replied sternly, facing her. "Bleh!" he mockingly exclaimed, teasing his little sister, "If you're hungry, buy your own food" he deadpanned. "Mommy" Julie complained, turning toward her mom, pleading with her to help, "Brother is being mean to me again" she continued to whine.
Mrs. Lee sighed, "Jason, stop teasing your sister", shaking her head, "Mommy had planned with your dad tonight, so make sure to look after your sister". Mrs. Lee patted her daughter's head, bidding goodbyes, before rushing out excitedly.
Julie stood still, watching her mother rush out the door, she took a glimpse at her brother and his friends and decided to sit on the couch next to them. She picked up the remote, but before she could press the button, the remote was taken away by her brother. "Don't you have homework to do ?" Jason asked as he browsed through Netflix before deciding on watching 'Attack on Titan'.
"I already finished all of my work" Julie replied, slouching on the couch. She was going to watch that show anyway.
"Have some tteokbokki" Aiden said, pushing the food toward her. Julie glanced at her brother, who remained stern, watching the show. "It's okay" she sulked. Jason sighed, "Brother was joking around earlier" he picked up the tteok with his chopstick, feeding her "I'm sorry".
Julie was reluctant at first, giving in to the temptation, she opened her mouth. But her brother decided to tease her even more, he shoved the tteok into his mouth instead. "I'm done" Julie scowled, "I'm telling mom". She stood up, glaring at her brother, and stomped her feet into her bedroom.
Aiden watched the whole situation unfold, he let out a chuckle, "You're teasing your sister again". Jason laughed "That's what little sisters are for". Jason reached out for his phone, ordering take-out, "Kid her age should have a proper meal" he continued. Aiden smiled, turning his attention to the TV.
"Ding" the door rang. Jason walked over to get the food. He then proceeded to open the package, setting it up on the dining table. After finishing setting up the food, he walked up to her room, knocked on her door, "Julie, food is ready"
"No, I'm not falling for the same trick again" Julie answered. "Sure", Jason exhaled, walking down the stair. Aiden turned to him mouthing, "She's not going to eat?", looking concerned. Jason shook his head, smirking "I will show you how to deal with a 14-year-old throwing a tantrum"
"I was about to buy you the Miu Miu shoe you wanted, I guess you no longer wanted it" He exclaimed, loud enough for her to hear. He returned to the couch, " Give it 5 seconds" he nudged Aiden.
The sound of someone sprinting down the stairs could then be heard across the rooms, which caused the two boys to turn their heads. "Where's dinner?" Julie asked, nonchalantly. "Over there" Jason signaled, hiding his smile.
Julie scrolled on her phone as she ate her food, and then suddenly a message appeared from an unknown username. Julie couldn't care less, this was normal for her, she was getting DMs from various students left and right, and she couldn't bat an eye. She put down her phone and continued eating her food. Julie snuck a glance at her brother's friend, Aiden, her eyes linger on his face.
Aiden turned his head and the two eyes met, he gave her a light smile. Julie blushed, her eye wandering around, avoiding contact. She picked up her phone, pretending to text someone to avoid the awkward situation. Aiden smiled fondly, watching her fidgeting. He turned his head around, shaking his head as he laughed.
"It must be nice to have a sister" Aiden stated. "Then tell your parent to give you one" Jason laughed. Changing the topic, "Are you still thinking of going back to Korea after finishing university" Jason asked.
Aiden gave it a thought before answering, "Yes, after all, I will have to take over my parent company", Jason nodded in return. "What about you?"
"I'm staying here in London, and will probably visit the motherland once or twice a year" Jason replied. He looked at Aiden and smirked, "What? You don't want to be separated from your only friend?" Jason teased, elbowing him. "Shut up dude, you're so annoying" Aiden laughed, shaking his head. "We're still in our second years, there's no use stressing about it" Jason added, lighting up the mood, "And finish up your portion of the food man, I'm not eating your leftovers", he yelled. "Alright man, tone it down, you're scaring the kid", Aiden rolled his eyes.
As the night grew, Julie returned to her room, sometimes long ago while Aiden decided to stay over for the the night.
