Nie Chang looked into the living room first but not even a glimpse could be seen of Su Yan. His heart thumped loudly and the nervous feeling he had since getting that message on WeChat became even stronger. Could it be that his boyfriend really wanted to leave him? But they hadn't even been together for two days!
He hurried into the kitchen in the hope of seeing a disgruntled Su Yan eating breakfast on his own. Maybe he had finished what he was doing on his notebook and then gone to see where he had vanished to. With Su Yan's temperament, he certainly would be angry when it seemed that his boyfriend had disappeared on him! Sending a furious message because of that wasn't unexpected. He would probably forgive him though when he came back with the ingredients and explained.
Unfortunately, the kitchen was just as empty as the living room. Nie Chang gulped and put down the groceries before he sat down at the table and took a deep breath.
He had to calm down and think things through. Why was Su Yan suddenly thinking about breaking up? He just couldn't understand! Hadn't everything been going well? He couldn't really be annoyed because he had gone out without telling him, could he?!
No, Su Yan wasn't like that. He might be a little capricious but not to this extent. In fact, he might even be happy if he found out his boyfriend had gone to buy something so he could make him a nice breakfast. Su Yan wasn't somebody who thought too deeply about that kind of thing. So it had to be something else. He couldn't think of anything he had done today that might have annoyed Su Yan though.
Nie Chang rubbed his face. It wasn't easy to stay calm if you had to fear that the love of your life might leave you without you knowing what was even going on.
Wasn't there any clue? What had Su Yan been doing before he left? That might be what had brought this sudden change about. The last thing he had seen … was Su Yan sitting in front of his notebook. Knowing him he had probably been writing something new or hurled himself into responding to all the reviews and comments.
Nie Chang's eyes widened. Wait! The reviews and comments? The one he had read to Su Yan yesterday had mentioned that the story had been recommended to her on Weibo! Maybe … Su Yan had found out about the things Lao Lao and Gong Gong had posted behind his back? That was something he might be angry about! After all, it hadn't been that easy for him to accept being together with another man. Being misunderstood as a woman should be worse to him.
Nie Chang stood up and paced up and down in the kitchen. He definitely couldn't lose Su Yan after finally getting together with him! He had to do something!
Nie Chang took out his phone and hurriedly called the number he already knew by heart. He first had to get in touch with him again and explain everything. Su Yan wasn't completely unreasonable. If he could explain, then he would definitely come back!
His effort seemed futile though. Instead of the expected angry voice of his boyfriend, Nie Chang was greeted by the automatic voice of the telephone provider. Su Yan's phone was actually switched off.
Nie Chang stared blankly, his heart pounding even faster. He couldn't have really lost him, could he?
While Nie Chang was still enveloped in his own nightmarish imagination a beep came from his phone telling him to leave a voice message. Nie Chang grabbed the back of the chair in front of him and closed his eyes. How had it come so far that he had to leave a teary voice message for his boyfriend? They had clearly been doing so well!
"Su Yan …" Nie Chang only got out his name before faltering. He didn't even know what was going on. What was he supposed to say? He didn't want to do something else wrong! "Ah Yan, I … I love you. I don't know what exactly I did wrong but please come back and let us talk about it, alright? I really … can't imagine losing you. You're the most important person in my whole life.
I've been in love with you for so many years and when we got together this Sunday I was the happiest man alive. Knowing that … you also felt something for me and that all this wasn't just one-sided affection anymore I didn't even know what to do with all this happiness.
I only know that … I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Going to bed together just like yesterday, accompanying you when you once again change your mind about what you want to do from one moment to the other, holding you in my arms while we sleep and waking up together again the next morning, arguing who's going to use the bathroom first and whether we're going to Auntie Zhu's shop to eat or you'd rather want to eat what I cook … I want all of that. Every day. I just … want to be with you so badly.
So, please …"
Something wet smacked the back of his head. Nie Chang who had just wanted to apologize again and ask his lost boyfriend to come back to him turned around and incredulously looked at said boyfriend.
Su Yan's hair was dripping wet as if he had just gotten out of the shower. In fact, even his clothes had some wet stains. The most notable thing was his reproachful look though.
"Nie Chang, you're being too much! We just got together two days ago and only told my mom yesterday! My father hasn't even accepted us yet and you … you're … How can you honestly expect me to say yes if you ask me to marry you now?!"
Nie Chang just continued to stare in a daze.
Su Yan didn't take this response so well. He grabbed the towel he had just thrown at him back with a huff and turned away. "At least wait until we had sex. What's the rush? It's not like I'm going to run away in these two weeks."
Hmph. What a rash person! He should ask his mother what he should do about this. Who could have known he would be proposed to before he could even have sex with his boyfriend. Wait, maybe that was how it was supposed to be?!
Mn, he should earnestly consider that.
While Su Yan's mind went astray he didn't notice the gaze of his boyfriend that got more incredulous by the minute.
How come … Su Yan was standing behind him? And even looked as if he had just come out of the bathroom? Could anyone tell him what was going on here?
I feel like this kind of beginning in the third volume really shows the heart of all the trouble Nie Chang has been going through these past years. Ah, dear ml, you'll have a lot more fun in the future!
On another note, I'm curious how much time we'll actually be able to cover in this volume. #1 spanned 6 days and #2 only managed to span less than two days. Maybe we're down to several hours now? xD
