Chapter Two Hundred and Fifty -Getting Down to Businrss

Dad and I sat in his office drinking whiskey while Bas looks on wistfully.

Having David return to the land of the free could complicate matters which mom and Alan are clearly preparing for.

Are they aware that a close trial is going on with him?

What baffles me is mom!

"Won't the court arrest the actual person who pushed Mrs. Sullivan down the stairs?" Swirling the whiskey glass in front of my eyes, I wondered out aloud.

"Yes that's what is rather concerning," Bas agree from the long sofa where he's stretched out. "I found it strange that Hailey mention the woman but no one asked for a name." Bas continues. "Even Hailey has questions concerning that but we are hopeful with her therapist files, the Judge will see the truth and give Hailey's mom justice." Bas adds.

I listen to Bas words because I did wonder the same thing, hurt that Hailey choose to discuss her feeling with him and not me.

Leaning forward in his chair behind his desk, "do you think Gussippie made a deal for David's acquittal" dad asked but since we are not legal counsels, all we can do, is wonder.

"Mom's behavior today was sneaky," I changed the topic to the meeting that was held earlier this morning where mom nominated Alan to the board to be voted in as CEO and replace Hailey on a permanent basis.

I hope Hailey don't get too upset but the only way I could excuse Hailey and my absence during the past month is mentioning her miscarriage and the toll it took on us, which did the trick and bought us extra time to seek legal counsel concerning our options should David get released tomorrow.

"They are clearly making a play for the Foundation but what about SullaKnight's?" Dad asked thoughtfully.

Chuckling, I emptied the glass down my throat, wincing at the burning sensation. "As a bribe to marry Hailey, mom signed her shares over to me and you gave me yours as a wedding gift," I explained, chuckling at dad's reaction.

With a lopsided smirk, "how did I not know this?" he asks softly then shrugs. "Guess when David is out or hopefully if he is out tomorrow, we'll see what he does with his shares of SullaKnights." Dad continued, sighing deeply.

Confused, "didn't he leave his shares to her as part of her inheritance?" I asked, frowning, I struggle to remember my conversation with Knox. "Yeah, I think he left it to Hailey at the beginning of his imprisonment" I added, lifting my eyes to meet dad, curious one. "She only acquired it on her twenty first birthday," I added and went on to relay my conversation with Knox during my last visit to his office.

"Ameila is aware that her daughter has nothing to gain from me since she openly declared Adana as David's daughter and even changed her last name to Sullivan." Dad explains and I nod because that was the last straw for dad and that is when he decided to pick up and leave his mansion to live with his son and daughter-in-law.

"We need to meet Knox," dad and I said simultaneously before topping up our glass, chucking as Bas groans on the side because he's designated driver.

Taking out my phone, I dialed Knox's number without a second thought, needing to deal with securing David and Hailey's assets and keeping it out of Amelia's greedy hands.

"Mr. Knights, what can I do for you today?" Knox answers rapidly but he's apparently on the road, because I can hear the traffic around him.

"Is it possible to meet with you this afternoon?" I asked, slurring a bit.

Mr. Knox didn't respond immediately. Maybe he was deciding if meeting with me was in his favor.

"Actually, I just left SullaKnights, maybe you could have Hailey relay our meeting and then reschedule with me if there are any more questions." He explained calmly.

Hailey?

Didn't she promise to be good today?

"Right," I responded, "I call you soon then." I added before hanging up.

"What the f**k is Hailey up to now?" I have no idea why, but I am uncomfortable with her having a meeting and keeping me out of the loop.

Sitting upright, Bas faces me, "to be fair, Hailey tried to share something with you at her office door but stalled." He says, "maybe she didn't want to add stress when you were attending your meeting here.

I listen and simply nod but the fact is, I signed over all of SullaKnights shares to Hailey so basically the Sullivan's owned the company but Knights Foundation could encounter problems if mom, David and Alan gang up against dad.

All of our companies are under the Foundation, even those owned by dad.

"Maybe you should call your lawyer and have him shift your personal assets out of the Foundation, immediately." I suggested.

Nodding, dad takes up the phone to make his call while I join Bas on the sofa, kicking his leg to make room, taking my glass and the whiskey bottle with me.

"Hailey would not deceive you, you know." Bas says watching me pour a large drink.

Bas wouldn't understand but this, is about my father and everything that he could lose at David Sullivan's resurrection, especially with mom as puppetmaster.

"You're thinking your mom would seek a divorce when David is released?" Bas asks a question that's been nagging me and I'm sure dad feels the same way.

I stare at my father and observe him as he speaks to his lawyer.

He seem tired and drawn as the stress since leaving his home is weighing down heavily on him. I just got him back so I have to do what I can to help him and secure his empire and most of all, to keep it out of the hands of my greedy mother.

"David would want to give Chubbs part of what he owns."
