Love UNEXPECTED

Love comes to everyone in different ways, but in Zandia's case, it came in the form of a hot, dark blue-eyed, well-defined cheekbone Jake. While one suffered from a past wound, the other suffered from self-doubt. But they both couldn't deny the intense attraction they felt for one another.

Zandia's POV

"Come on, let's go together. I can just asct as your assistant you know. Please." Sam pleaded. She has been asking I take her along with me when I go to the meeting I had at The Z. Although I could introduce her as my partner, but wouldn't that be tagged as deceit?

"I don't know Sam. What if they find out you are a journalist? That will compromise my working with them." I had told her this last night too so her asking me again was not expected. If they were to find out I brought a journalist along, would they trust me again?

"In that case, let me tag along as a family. It isn't wrong to have a family helping you out." She paused, "Believe me Zanny, I am not going to fish for materials, I won't compromise your work like that. I am going because I want to be a shoulder you can rely on while there. Wouldn't it be better knowing you have someone there who has got your back?" She asked. She sounded so convincing that I wanted to nod my head at her. I am so nervous about today's meeting that I wouldn't mind having a support system, but Sam being a journalist worried me.

"No sneaky pictures, or questioning the workers. In fact, you can't take any camera with you." She nodded smiling.

"I promise. I am going in as Samantha,  your sister, and not as a journalist." With that promise I nodded agreeing to her coming along. She was already dressed as she squealed pulling out a pair of shoes to wear.

"And you owe me." That stopped her as she glanced over.

"No, I do not. I am not sourcing for any materials so I am not owing you shit." She smirked as she turned away.

"So you truly aren't going to tell me who you are dating right?" It is weird that she is keeping him a secret. Sam has always liked to show off her partners. "Don't tell me he is ugly?!" I asked and her eyes rolled.

"My partner is not ugly. I promise I will tell you soon. But only when I am certain you owe me enough." With that she left the room.

When I owe her enough? She couldn't be dating a married man right? Samantha wouldn't do that would she?

'My partner...' She had avoided... Could the partner be a she?

'I am too late for this discussion.' I decided to let it go and make confirmations when I got back later. For now, what I need is to get to The Z early so I can maybe give my new supervisor a good first impression of myself. Amanda had sent me a notification informing me about the change in my supervisor, but even she hadn't mentioned who I was assigned to. I am once again expected to go to the front desk for further directives.

"Do you know, it is a dream of every journalist to unravel The Z's CEO? From an early age, His parents have always stopped the media from getting any news about him. We only know his name and age. Not a single picture of him online. He seems like a dream no one can reach and yet you... I must say Zanny, you are amazing." She grinned at me as though I had truly done something amazing by sleeping with Jake.

"He is just a regular guy, I think." Until the day he started acting weird, Jake had always seemed like a regular guy you would meet at a bar drinking. Which was sort of how I met him.

"Of course he might have seemed that way to you. Rumors have it that in the business world, he is quite ruthless. He is nicknamed the humble demon. They say he ruins people while wearing a smile and a respectful look. If this job wasn't important to you, I would have begged you to quit it. If you have truly offended him, No one can tell how he intends to seek vengeance with you." She sounded worried as her gaze fell on the tall building.

"It must have been exaggerated. He truly is like a regular guy, he has such a melodious laugh you know, and he does make jokes too. The only exception will be his heavy bank account. And besides, why would he need to invest so much thought in ruining me if that is what he is after?" She shrugged.

"Let's head inside else I will truly be late." I marched forward as she walked beside me.

"If it gets too risky, you can always move over to my place, and build your career there." I nodded smiling as we both walked to the reception desk.

"Hello." I greeted the same lady I had met here on my first visit. Cassandra.

"Hi, we meet again." She smiled. I was surprised she remembered me as I am certain she would have attended to several people. Whenever I met Pete, I would head straight to his office so I never stopped by ever since.

"Yes we did. I have a meeting today, I am not sure with whom, so could you please help me check?" I asked and she smiled tapping on her keyboard.

Looking up, "Miss Chester, please head up to the CEO's office, your meeting will start soon." She added smiling as she left her stool and walked toward the elevator, signalling we follow her.

CEO's office? Isn't that Jake's office?

"Miss Chester." Her call reminded me I had to walk over to her. "Is she with you?" She looked a bit uncertain as she glanced at Sam.

"Yes, she is my partner." The lie slipped out of my lips before I could stop it. Nodding, she scanned her card on the elevator to allow us access to the top floor. The CEO's floor. But she hadn't gone up with us as she exited the machine on the next floor.

"Good luck" She wished as the door closed shut.

Sam looked like she had a lot to say but because of the other occupants, she kept mute.

I too had a lot on my mind. Why would I need to go to Jake's office when I am meeting my new supervisor? Except...

He wouldn't do that right?
