"Eh! You here?"
Gretta looked at the person standing in the doorway in shock, then hurriedly wiped her hands and walked over to the person and stood facing each other.
Tap!
"It's been so long? Why didn't you call and just stand here on purpose?" she continued when she didn't get an answer from someone who just shrugged nonchalantly.
"On purpose, want to see if you do the right thing or not," replied the man mockingly.
Gretta pursed her lips in annoyance at the restless answer of the tall man in front of her "What's so annoying."
"Indeed, you just found out, huh?" said the person who turned out to be a man. "Hey! Have you had lunch? How about we go out for a while," he continued invitingly.
"Where do you want to take me, Chiko?" Gretta asked the man without awkwardness again, although there was one time she was surprised when her head was about to be touched.
"The important thing is to eat. Actually, you can eat here and there too. Wherever you are, (As long as it's with you)" Chiko replied, someone who was watching Gretta.
"Just stay here, I still have to work after the break is over," explained Gretta with an unpleasant smile.
"No problem, I ordered food and will bring it here. Do you want me to buy you something?" Chiko said casually.
"Em…." Gretta shook her head. "I have lunch, that's enough," she continued refusing.
"Okay, how about an iced tea for you? I don't think that's in your lunch ration-
"But-
"Okay, I'm going out for a bit. Wait here."
Gretta could only watch from behind Chiko's retreating back, then sighed as she couldn't resist the man's kindness. Though she had been rude by throwing him out suddenly, the man was not angry with her at all.
She also decided to go into the restaurant, take her food while waiting for Chiko to come back with what he was going to buy.
A few moments later…
Lunch was over, Gretta was now sitting opposite Chiko who he said wanted to tell her something. She became nervous when she saw that expression, but she hoped that this was not a bad thing to say.
"So, what's wrong? What do you want to say?" asked Gretta as Chiko remained silent, even though she occasionally drank the cans on the table.
Chiko didn't answer immediately, but instead put the can she was holding on the table first and let out a small breath.
"Em…, it's about your identity and family."
Gretta had tensed when she heard the word family from Chiko's mouth. But, she already believed that the man in front of her would not reveal her secret.
"My identity and family, have you found it?"
"Yeah, Brian did a good job looking for you. But," Chiko replied, then paused his sentence, wanting to see the tense expression of the woman in front of him.
"But why?"
Honestly, Gretta was afraid that what she would hear would exceed her expectations. She couldn't actually be kicked out of that family as she heard, could she?
"But unfortunately, they only recorded 3 adopted grandchildren in the Grinson family, not biological grandchildren like what you mentioned. Then for your mother, she married and had a husband and one child who died in an accident. As for your name, it has been legally terminated on the grounds of your request and it's legal."
Thump!
"I don't know how Brian got it. But it's going to be a scandal if you insist on wearing the Grinson when people don't know your real face. Then the Samuel Waynee you're talking about, it's really not in your mother's marriage records. It's all very difficult and Brian himself admits it's difficult to penetrate the security profile of the family, sorry."
Chiko finished the explanation with regret at the end of the sentence, especially when he saw the clouded expression of the woman in front of him.
Really, it felt like I wanted to hug that frail shoulder and take her under protection.
Gretta, what was the main reason you were kicked out of your own family? I want to know all about you, Chiko thought glumly.
Gretta who finished hearing Chiko's explanation was silent with a lot of sadness she was suffering from.
It's not a real family problem breaking ties with her, but her father's condition which is still gray to this day. In fact, she had hoped that by telling her family who she was, information about her father and brother would be known.
However, she seemed to have forgotten who she was currently dealing with. Let alone cover up information, even blood ties are easily broken and of course this is very easy because they have power.
Then, if it's like this, how will she know whether or not there are traces of her father and brother?
"I don't want to be a part of them anymore, I want to be free."
Huh?
Chiko immediately raised his eyes when he heard Gretta's voice which finally answered his explanation. He also looked at the woman in front of him in shock, when he heard the explanation as a follow-up sentence.
"I did mention the family name because I used to be part of them. However, my real goal is not to want to use Grinson as my identity anymore, but to find out where my father is, that's all."
Gretta paused for a moment, then exhaled.
"If I could, I'd be completely forgotten as Grinson and live as Nanda, with no other name. Gretta, that name is enough for you to know. So…, can I be reborn as Nanda? Please erase everything about my old me and let me live peacefully as the new Nanda. Can I?"
Gretta looked at Chiko pleadingly, not knowing that what she was staring at couldn't bear to see that gaze. Moreover, she did not know the reason clearly until the blood relationship was cut off by the family.
Don't rich families need successors?
Even the truth about yesterday's information was still something he had not shared with Gretta, specifically about the issue of deaths and accidents.
Yes, Gretta was even rumored to have died in an accident by her biological family.
Why is your life so complicated, Chiko thought with pity.
"I will help you become a Nanda without difficulty."
"Really!? Thank you-
"But on one condition," Chiko interrupted quickly, looking seriously at Gretta, who was smiling at first, slowly turning stiff.
"Conditions?" Gretta's parrot was curious.
"Yes, the only condition is to explain how you got here. I mean, how did you get to that dead end and how did you get out of the house? Everyone, without exception," replied Chiko straightforwardly, without a hint of joking at all.
Thump!
Gretta was silent and stared at Chiko with wide eyes, not believing that finally the man in front of her actually asked her about the reason for leaving the house.
Glup!
Saliva Swallowed roughly by Gretta, she didn't realize she was already showing a speckled expression of fear in front of Chiko who was still looking at her demandingly.
"That's the only way you can become the real Nanda. I'm not going to divulge your story to Geana, you just take it easy," added Chiko when he didn't get an answer from Gretta who was still silent.
"I was picked on and almost hacked-
"I know that, what I'm asking is how did you get out of there, from your family. I don't want you to regret, when you really left the name Gretta," Chiko interrupted flatly.
And Gretta, again silent, pondered what decision she would make.
Is being Nanda the best for her?
Grey, will we meet again. But, what if you don't recognize my new name?
