At least Casey apologized for it. Would Kane even feel bad about deceiving Vera if she called him out on it? Their senses of morality were rather different.
Casey didn't want to inconvenience anyone. Kane didn't care who he inconvenienced as long as his objective was accomplished. They were both helpful by nature, though Kane's helpfulness was of the begrudging variety.
Vera forced herself to put those thoughts on the back burner when she got a phone call. She managed to make it through the rest of the workday and headed to the hospital on baited breath, unsure which one of them she would be seeing today. She had brought those books she promised just in case.
"Hi, Vera. Thanks for bringing those. I don't want to be a bother but…do you think you could maybe bring me a hoodie next time?"

"Of course!" she cried as she launched herself at him. "Is there a specific one you want?"
