The unexpected twist

KATE POV CONT'D

I heard a calm-voiced assassin telling the other to search elsewhere while he was heading my way, and I quickly hid behind a cabinet. I heard a loud blast from upstairs, and my heart sank. Dad... I was in pain, both physically and emotionally. The calm-voiced guy entered the kitchen, and I lost all hope. I closed my eyes, tears flowing down like a river, waiting for the worst. Surprisingly he got to me in no time. I already lost the will to escape but I really don't want to die.

"Please,... I was about pleading for dear life.

"Shhh," he whispered, covering my mouth with his hand. Before I knew it, he swept me up like a feather and carried me out of the house through a secret back door. I was amazed he knew about the hidden route - no one knew asides dad, mom and I. Who is this mysterious figure? I wondered as we emerged into the countryside (yeah my house was located in the countryside, the outskirts of the city), I felt a strange sense of calm in his arms, despite the danger. I gazed into his piercing white eyes with dark brown irises, the only visible part of his masked face. He did the same too, and we remained like that till my senses came back.

I realized he was one of the bad guys, I struggled to break free. "What are you doing? Do you want me to join my parents?" I spat, anger and grief mixing in my voice. "Go ahead and kill me, you murderer!" I yelled, tears streaming down my face. He ignored my outburst and instead gave me a cryptic message: "Find out about Gold Bars and Chevrolet groups when you're ready for revenge. And retrieve the guillotine file - you have the code."

Just then, his earbud beeped, and I saw the tiny red lights flashing. His boss was calling, and he quickly pushed me away, adjusting his mask because I tried to pull it off ( I don't know how i got the courage to do that)

And that was how I caught a glimpse of his surrprised face before he recovered. Who was this enigmatic figure, and what did he want from me? I wondered as he left in jiffy, disappearing into the dark night, not without glancing back at me.

As I ran into the darkness, I couldn't help but smile wryly at my masked rescuer - who turned out to be a handsome man! I waved goodbye, bitter and confused, but also grateful.

I finally opened my eyes, my hand towel soaked with tears. I gazed at the painting in my hands, an emotional drawing that had unleashed a flood of feelings. It was the first time I'd felt such depth of emotion since my parents' murder. It was as if my masked savior had awakened a part of me I thought was long dead.

I realized I had to confront the past and seek justice. And, strangely, I hoped my masked assassin-savior was involved. I had developed unexplainable feelings for him, despite his role in that fateful night. Was it because he saved me? His piercing eyes and chiseled jawline? His enigmatic words? I had tried to hate him, but couldn't. Now, I needed him for my revenge- I thought!

As I turned my drawing paper over, I gasped in surprise. Yes, I still draw upside down- that's one of the magics about my artistic talent.

There, staring back at me, was the face I had seen in my dreams - but with a twist. It was Lexie, my supposed brother, who hated me for no reason. I couldn't understand why my subconscious had replaced my masked savior with him.

This has never happened before- drawing the wrong person, something must be wrong somewhere. I wondered in confusion but nevertheless I quickly put the drawing away, deciding to start fresh. Drawing is my passion, my escape, and my strength. I closed my eyes and began again, determined to capture the image in my mind. I guess I was too distracted by the emotional memories that engulfed me and that's why I drew Lexie.

Just then, the door opened, and my foster sister Sandra walked in.

"Hey, I knew I'd find you here! Did you see your dream man again? Did you finally get a good look at him?" she asked, curiosity sparkling in her voice.

Sandra is my rock, my confidant, and my best friend. We share everything, and she knows all about my mysterious masked savior. I'm grateful to have found a loving family like this, especially after my traumatic past. Sandra may be only 18, but she has the wisdom and sass of a 25-year-old!

I still remember that fateful night whe

n I escaped the horrific scene...
