Chapter four

Ephreona's P.O.V

I waited till morning and grabbed the few things that I had. Senah also packed her things and we turned to our mother to bid her our final goodbye. Xavier had also gotten himself ready to leave then.

Mum refused to even spare us a glance so we also calmly walked out and made sure there weren't any lurking zombies anywhere. Immediately we stood out, I could feel the sun rays shining on my skin brightly. I had missed that feeling. We were a few buildings ahead of my house when Xavier paused.

"It seems you guys have nowhere to go. I'll send you both to the mountains where those who are still living are." He said in his usual cold tone.

"Why are you telling us then?" Senah asked. "I told you so that in case we get there, you wouldn't think I betrayed you. Again, don't misbehave else I'll dump you somewhere in the forest and at the mercy of the zombies." He finished with pure venom eminent in his voice.

Just then, we heard an ear-piercing scream and we turned back to find about five zombies feasting on my mother. We quickly ran away before the zombies noticed us.

We walked for a long while. We had reached a dense forest. Xavier looked bored and muttered something I couldn't hear. He realized that Senah and I were scared to enter so he took the lead.

The place was creepy. There were spider webs everywhere. My face had been rubbed in them about ten times already. I began to wonder why Xavier wasn't scared but rather seemed at ease like he was being protected.

And it also seemed like he knew the way. After about twenty minutes walk through the forest, we came across a waterfall. It was really beautiful. There were birds everywhere. The water itself was an admirable color of sky blue. There was green everywhere.

It was a wonderful sight to behold. Just when I became aware of my surroundings, I realized that Senah was already in the water.
