By the time the car had left, Kexin grabbed Wen Xi's hand. "Madam He may have invited you, but you're still engaged to the Nan family at the end of the day. It's best to avoid trouble and leave the He family alone. If Madam He asks, just make up an excuse, and make up another if she invites you again. She'll get the message eventually."
With a pause, she turned to her husband. "Right, Guosheng?"
Guosheng seemed to be thinking about something else, though he did nod to please her. "Xixi, just listen to your mother."
The three got into the car, and after a while, Kexin brought up the temple again.
Guosheng didn't look too pleased with that. "We'll talk about it when we get home."
Once they had returned home, Zhou Ling put down everything and rushed over. "What happened, what happened? Is everything done?"
Guosheng turned and sat down, sighing before looking at Wen Xi. "Xixi, do you want to go back to studying acting?"
"Huh?"
"Huh?"
Wen Xi hadn't even said anything before the mother and daughter duo reacted.
Kexin quickly sat down, putting her hand over her husband's. "Guosheng, what are you talking about? Xixi studying medicine is all well and good, why are you pushing her back to that?"
"Yeah, did you forget that big fire one year ago? That's fate. The child doesn't have luck with acting arts." Zhou Ling added.
Guosheng rubbed his brow. "Stop talking, you guys. Xixi, tell me. Do you want to?"
Wen Xi pretended to think about it. "It's been one year since I left acting, but if that's the only way to break the curse, yes."
"What are you babbling on about, child!" Wei Kexin scolded.
Wen Xi lowered her head as if she'd been frightened.
Kexin quickly calmed her voice down. "Guosheng, I don't agree with this! Xixi has already spent a year studying medicine, and now going back to acting? She won't be able to catch up! Plus, she'd have to be retested, that's a lot of time!"
Guosheng was still thinking, the image of the four characters the Taoist master had written still in his mind, about how everyone has their own lives and fate. "Everything has its place in the world. Changing them against the heavens would result in even greater danger."
With that, he spoke deeply. "No need to worry about enrollment. I have my ways. We'll go with that."
And so, he went upstairs.
Kexin and Zhou Ling looked at each other, very worried. They rushed after him. "Guosheng, listen to me-"
Wen Xi let out a breath of relief, though just for a moment.
After all, she wasn't sure if her dad would yield to Kexin's crying tactics again.
"You weren't born to act, why are you trying to but into that field?" Zhou Ling tried to scold her, suddenly.
Wen Xi frowned and left, not wanting her ears to be filled with trash.
"Do what you want then, you ungrateful girl! All you do is worry about your parents!"
Wen Xi took out her phone to hang out and talk with Jiang Ke for a bit, but instead, she saw many messages from Madam He.
Madam He: Are you home yet?
Madam He: (picture) look at how handsome my grandson is. This is his doctor's outfit.
Madam He: (picture) this one too, trainee outfit! He's so handsome, he probably doesn't have friends!
Madam He: (picture) Doesn't he look amazing while sweating too? Salivating
Madam He: ...Why aren't you replying? Hmph.
