Are all the Wens this stubborn?

Editor: Exodus Tales

The nurse was half asleep, so Wen Xi quietly helped her to a nearby chair and set her down, then took her place in assisting the operation.

"Needle holder."

With little thought, Wen Xi picked up the needle holder with her right hand, but having little strength in her hand to hold it steady, it fell from her hand. Instinctively, she bent down in hopes of catching it, not wanting to make any noise that would disturb He Yan. Instead of catching it however, she hurt her knee and grit her teeth in pain.

Luckily, He Yan was not disturbed. He didn't even turn around.

She quickly passed him the needle holder and tried to ignore the pain in her knee by taking in a deep breath.

It was not until the operation was over that the man found that the assisting nurse was resting in a chair, and the woman standing next to him had an arm wrapped in gauze.

Their eyes met. It made Wen Xi feel a little uneasy, but she immediately took out her recipe for the vaccine.

"Dr. He, my name is Wen Xi, and I have found a cure to the ZH virus. Please, take a look at this."

He Yan glanced at her, "Developed by a freshman medical student?"

From the look of disbelief in He Yan's eyes, it was obvious he thought she was joking.

Wen Xi wondered to herself how he could have known that, but that was besides the point. She pleaded with him again, "Although that is true, I do have actual experience in medicine. Please read this before jumping to any conclusions."

He Yan took the paper. For a moment, as he read, there was a brief look of amazement in his eyes, but he was quick to hide it.

"The youngest daughter of Vice Minister Wen, who was only admitted to a medical school last year, should have no other medical experience. Yet you say that you have been practicing medicine for many years?"

Wen Xi was startled that he knew so much about her, particularly because he did not seem like someone who paid attention to people who did not matter. Nevertheless, she had not lied, but it wasn't as if she could bring up her reincarnation, so she tried to divert his attention back to the vaccine.

She stood taller. "I am confident in what I have written down."

He Yan took a few steps forward, staring at Wen Xi. Without warning, he picked her up and carried her in his arms without a word.

Wen Xi was startled by his actions at first, but she then realizes that, on her knee, there was blood seeping through her pants.

Her wounds could have ruined the sterility of the operating room, which would have endangered the patients, and she really should not have stayed any longer than she already had.

Laying in his arms, she could smell something cold and fresh, coming from He Yan, so strongly that even her mask could not have blocked the scent. As she breathed in the scent her of male hormones, she blushed.

He Yan placed her down on a chaise lounge. He took some tools and used them to deftly cut the cloth on her knees off. He then proceeded to clean and sterilize her wound to prevent any further infections.

It was quite painful, that Wen Xi had to grit her teeth. She also stared into He Yan's earnest eyes, as a distraction from the pain.

"Scream if it hurts. Don't be stubborn."

 "It doesn't."

Sweating, He Yan looked at her and said, "Your face is so pale, but you say it doesn't hurt. Are all the Wens this stubborn?"

Wen Xi took a moment to reply, "...It seems you know the people in the Wen family well."

"Not just anyone."

He said it with little emotion, but Wen Xi couldn't help but wonder what he really meant by that.

After he finished treating her wound, he took off his gloves and went over to a washbasin. While he was washing his hands, he said to her, "Stay here until your family picks you up. It's not safe outside."

"A hospital ward is a breeding ground for bacteria. I don't think it is safe here."

He Yan turns around, "You really like to be defiant."

"I'm just honest." Wen Xi looked at him; she is a little curious as to how he would look without a mask.

In her previous life, she had often heard others discussing his achievements and family background, and she was very impressed by his name: "He Yan." As for his face, though she had met him before, they had been too far away from each other, so she had never paid close attention.
