CHAPTER 14 | QUALITY TIME

LUCY'S POV

"Marcus, don't be angry but we have an intruder," Hayden rushed inside, interrupting us for the second time.

"aggrrhh," I grunted, Marcus looks at me suspiciously.

"Take a break Hayde," Marcus says, slumping on the couch.

"You really need to see this," Hayden raises his eyebrows as another guy walks up.

"Lucifer," Marcus gets up and walks outside. He doesn't instruct me anything, so I assume that I can follow him and inspect what was going on. We enter the grey room which looked more like unused car parking. The last time I was here, I was almost killed.

A girl was tied to one of the pillars, she looks bewildered. She was trying to remove the cuffs and her head was bleeding. I wonder what had happened to her, I resisted my urge to save her without knowing more about what happened. She seemed innocent, her green eyes look somehow familiar as I inch closer to the nearest pillar where I can hide without getting noticed.

Then it struck me, she was just like me. Stranded at the wrong place and at the wrong time, though I wondered whether coming here was a mistake, because of Marcus. I had developed feelings for him which I cannot explain. Marcus pulls out his gun, steadily aiming at her head. I no more hesitate, and run towards her. I push Marcus's hand upwards in the air as the shot hit directly at the ceiling, my ears ringed.

"Don't," I whisper, somewhere between gripping my ears and managing my words.

"Lucy, why did you come here?"Marcus grabs me and pulls me closer as he explores my eyes.

"Don't do anything to her," I tell him again, unsure of what to reply.

"I won't," He tells as he pockets his gun and motions other guys to pull her away. I've never been so close to a gun before, I almost felt like I've gone deaf.

"Are you alright?" He asks me as he lifts me. I wonder whether that was necessary, but I was lazy enough to walk anyway.

I just nod my head, trying to balance it and make it sound like a gesture at the same time. I hear a chime from the car as Marcus opens it through the key. The last time I had been in, I was mistreated.

He places me on the front seat and occupies the driver's seat as he asks me to buckle my belt. I felt okay now, but I never wanted to go near a gun again, never. I check my white skirt for any possible dirt sticking on it and sigh heavily when I found none. I wonder why Marcus likes me and cares for me.

"You didn't answer my question," Marcus asks me as he looks outside the tinted window, check for cars in the rear mirror.

"What is it?"I ask him, even though I knew what it was.

"Why were you there in the first place?" He asks me, looking at me instead of the road.

"I was curious," I tell him.

"Curiosity killed the cat," He smirks and I didn't know what to reply. Should I defend my curiosity or be offended that he called me a cat. I know it was a proverb, but I can't help but think about how he related it. We pull up near the rocks and he opens the door for me.

He grabs my slippers and holds my hands. We walk towards the shore, with only the warmth of his hands engulfing my heart. He looks tall, it was not the first time I notice, but I was not in the position to think about it earlier. He looks at me and catches my eyes, I quickly turn away.

The evening light shines on his chest as he loosens up the shirt a bit. I wanted to drench in the beach water, but sadly, I had a good dress on.

"Do you want to eat something? waffles? sandwich?"He asks me as I raise an eyebrow. I could eat them back at home.

"I wanna eat cotton candies and seafood, and ice cream," I pause for a second, "spring potatoes, flavoured beans ad can we go play something?" I ask him, being a little bit greedy. He looks at me as if he had seen a weird chipmunk asking for Fanta.

"What?" I ask him. I hadn't realised that his security guards were standing 50 feet apart, leaving us alone. He texts something on the phone as I see a guard walking towards the stall.

We watch the sunset as he gripped my hands hard into my fingers, I hope that he doesn't see me blushing hard under the orange hue. I sensed no lust, just a warm feeling, something protective. I hate to think that I've never felt this with Ethan.

A couple of guards place a table and two chairs on the beach sand, right next to where we were standing and placed the items I had asked for. The table arrangement seemed to irritate Marcus as the chairs were placed far away. A guard seemed to sense it and quickly placed the chairs near.

"We could've eaten there, why bring it here?" I ask him. I knew the answer myself, he wanted to torment people by using his name.

"Convenience, I told you that I'll treat you better" He answers.
