Cooking Show

Inside of a room on top of the building, somewhere in Japan.

A blond man wearing a turtleneck sweater was looking at his computer. He had a serious expression on his face while typing something on his keyboard.

He was the gamemaster—creator of Darwin's Game.

"So another one appeared again, huh…" he said, looking at the information regarding the person who had just joined the D-Game.

It was a serious matter. After all, it was the sixth time that this situation happened. A situation where people with no background identity joined the D-Game.

No matter what they did, they couldn't find even a little bit of who they were—even if he used his power as a gamemaster to look for their history and into their identity.

It was as if they just suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

And that's not the bigger problem.

All of them wielded unknown abilities that are not recorded as their sigil. The worst part, they were all strong on their own. They were anomalies.

Their abilities, of course, varied differently from each other. A person was using a so-called grimoire to produce elemental attacks. Another used a technique called 'ninjutsu' which he screamed every time he used it to produce a certain effect. Another used an unseeable energy to launch powerful attacks. Etc.

He—the gamemaster, was actually kind of happy at the first sight of an anomaly. As all of them were strong, he had thought that they would become a great force of allies to combat 'them'.

But reality showed him differently. All of them, just as strong as they were, all possessed strong and warped intentions.

They were more than willing enough to cause severe destruction, totally apathetic and indifferent towards human lives.

One even attempted to 'force' his way to his beloved.

They were truly an almost unstoppable anomaly.

And this time, he wondered what the new anomaly would be.

"So, how will we deal with this one?" a person standing in front of the gamemaster asked.

He had a white hair and blue eyes, wearing a cross necklace around his neck. He seemed to be wearing what looked like a priest outfit.

The gamemaster clasped both of his hands and placed his chin on top of it.

"Hmm.. We still don't know his hidden ability yet, and neither know what it is nor how strong it is. We should take caution just as always," The gamemaster answered. He was fully aware how strong an anomaly could be.

The priest raised his right eyebrow. "Are you sure that we should take time? He could be killing several people already at this point, you know?" he said, putting his right hand on his waist.

"This is not the first time we encountered one, we are prepared this time," added the priest. His expression then darkened and he slowly said, "And besides… We have 'her'."

The gamemaster closed his eyes for a second. "The 'Lancelot', huh… Sorry, I am still a bit reluctant about her," he said, opening his eyes again.

She—the lancelot, was the sole reason they had managed to stop the anomalies from causing further damage.

If not for her, they would probably have received a much larger damage than what 'they' could have done.

She was their trump card.

"And why is that? She got the perfect resume. If I was her employer, she would receive an instant promotion," the priest asked in puzzlement.

"I know, I know. It's just that… There was something about her," the gamemaster answered hesitantly.

It was not that he viewed Lancelot as a threat, he was grateful to her in fact. Her existence alone gave him confidence that this would finally be the last 'timeline' that they would fight 'them'.

'It's just that, there was something off about her,' the gamemaster thought to himself.

As the gamemaster was thinking about the situation, he suddenly received a text from someone.

"As expected, she already knew about it," the gamemaster said, reading the text.

"Wait, what?"

"It seems she already knew about the new anomaly."

"Man, she could be so creepy at times… If I didn't know her I would definitely deem her as an anomaly."

The gamemaster turned silent at the last exchange.

[Let him be.]—the text said.

It was a short message.

"Well, there it goes. I think she knows what to do already, I'll go now. Have a nice day," the priest turned his back on the gamemaster and exited the room.

The gamemaster closed off the message as he looked at the name of the new anomaly once more.

"Amon, huh…" he said as he stood up and looked at the city behind him that could be seen behind the glass of the building.

They were already prepared for him.

And the person in question—Amon, was not aware of them yet.

Inside a police station, Shibuya, Japan.

A week had already passed.

A person wearing a monocle was smiling while sitting on the table. He was handcuffed.

It was Amon.

In front of him at the other side of the table, two people were staring at him. They were wearing a police uniform.

"So, do you understand what you just did?" the officer questioned Amon.

Amon waved his hands in the air. "Umm, can you please at least unhand me? I swear, I didn't know myself what had come to me," he said while smiling.

This person—Amon, had attempted to steal jewelry and had actually been caught.

"Bullshit! Ugh, people these days!" the officer grumbled.

"Oi, calm down," the officer said.

Amon smiled again and said, "Yeah, I recommend doing the officer's suggestion."

The officer glared at him sharply at his comment. "Silence. Anyway things like this are normally considered as just misdemeanors. But you… What did you do? The owner seems hellbent on pressing charges at you. He actually filed a 'Grand Larceny' against you," the officer said.

'Nothing grand, I just stole a pretty-looking jewelry and handed it back to the shop owner,' Amon thought, having no intention to speak his mind out loud.

Petty Larceny was the term of punishment that was just normally caused by stealing items that valued less than 15,000 yen. They were typically just called misdemeanor.

This type of crime, if it's the first offense of the offender, could normally be resolved with ACD—Adjournment in contemplation of dismissal. Granted that the offender had no criminal history, he could be pardoned under the condition that he had to stay out of trouble for 6 months. After that, his charges could now be dismissed.

Do take note that a second offense could end you up in prison for a year and roughly 100,000 yen fine depending on the situation. (A/N: Stay out of trouble everyone!!)

The officer continued his word. "Of course, seeing that there was only an attempt, we could be lenient a bit," he said.

"Wow~ you guys are really kind! As expected of a policeman," Amon said, 'praising' the two officers.

It was then they smiled, their face darkening. "Well actually, we could easily solve this issue right now. Really easy," one of the officers said.

The other officer followed up and said, "Either you face imprisonment, or you could just pay some 'fines'. You look rich, so you might have the money to pay for the bail. But, it will still leave a record on you."

The honest-looking two officers had finally revealed themselves. They were people who were corrupt to the core.

It was not the first time that they had done this.

Hearing this, Amon smiled too. "Haha. Now this is getting interesting," he said, several thoughts passing in his mind.

"So? What are you guys waiting for?" Amon asked them, raising his hands that had been handcuffed.

Immediately they removed Amon's handcuff.

Stretching his wrists, Amon asked them, "What's gonna be the payment method? I didn't bring cash with me right now, so I would prefer it if you give me your bank number."

The officer took out his phone. "Put your email here, I'll email you the details," he said, handing his phone to Amon.

The officer didn't act rashly as he was actually a member of the 'Eight' clan. He had thought that this rich-looking person could be of use to them.

He could now imagine the clan leader promoting his position in the clan!

So with a smile, he bid Amon farewell. "You could go now," he said as he shook Amon's hand. "Pleasure doing business with you."

Amon chuckled. "Pleasure to do business with you too," he said as turned around.

Suddenly, the officer stopped him. "Wait!"

"Do you know… the term 'D-Game'?" he asked.

Amon adjusted his monocle. "Hm~? What's that? Sounds interesting to me," he said while smiling.

The two officers shook their heads and said, "No, no. Nevermind, it was nothing."

"Hmm… Well, I'll be going now. Thanks for the offer," Amon said as he left the police station.

On the outside, Amon chuckled. "Today is a lucky day," he said.

Today, there were two major things that he had learned.
