"Going no where"
"Sir please is there any other way we can drop the charges?" My mum asked
Of course we are at the station, I'm in the lobby and Mr Antonio and Camille went in to talk with the sheriff in his office. I had to give them my mum's number she came as quickly as she heard, I mean not that she cared or anything, she just didn't want me to go to jail, she's currently talking to an officer in the lobby.
"Ma'am I'm sorry but this is vandalization of personal property, she has to serve sometime in juve and of course you have to pay for the properties damaged".
"How many months are we talking here?"
"3-4 months probably"
"My poor baby, she can't spend that kind of time in juve, she has school to attend"
"Ma'am there is nothing I can do unless you convince Mr Antonio to drop the charges? ".
"Ok, I'll see what I can do"
She comes to sit by me on the bench, her dark red hair shining as ever and her caramel eyes are not not as bright as they usually are. They reflect something
Like they're judging me... pity, anger, pain...
"Katherine what have you done this time" she asked
"Its Katie mum" I rolled my eyes, why doesn't she ever get it?
"Whatever, you are in a lot of trouble young woman, you might go to juve for this"
"I am going to juve mum" I said it undoubtedly
"Shut up, don't say that, You know I care about you"
"Oh! Here we go again, really? We're doing this right here!"
"I am trying my best to keep you off prison, why can't you just be like your sister?" She sighs. Now she just pulled the string.
"Be like my sister?"
"Be like my sister!" I said again this time raising my voice, the officer on duty put his newspaper down. He gave me a stare but I was too far gone to control my temper.
I stood up "You know I tried so hard not to be like her, sure she was the best sister and might I say best daughter but I don't want to end up like her. Maybe being all goody goody caused her to kill herself, I mean she didn't even write her reason for dying, she was selfish, She left me in this world alone to bear with you. You might have found someone like Fred to replace the hole she left but I've got nothing, nobody. You were supposed to be by me, but ever since Fred came you deserted me, I was your only surviving child, but you didn't care so how dare you question my actions, my character and you even have the guts to tell me you care? Bullshit!! "
I'd let it all out, I was just like a moving coffin in that house, she didn't notice, she never noticed.
"Young lady watch your tongue, you are not in your living room that you should rant and scream. We are so sorry officer, we will take our problems else where when we are done"
Yep that's my mother for you, scold me and appologise. Well I'm not sorry she brought this on herself though.
"Please do Ma'am" the officer said.
"Now young lady keep your voice down, we await Mr Antonio and we want to show him that you are very sorry so wipe that anger from your face and be calm."
I hate to admit it but she's right, as much as I hate my life juve is not where I want to spend my christmas.
Just then we hear the sheriff's door open. Camille steps out first sending cold stares at me that makes my spine shiver, Then Mr Antonio and lastly the sheriff.
"Thank you Mr Antonio for taking your time to come to the office today"
"No problem sheriff, its been a while" Mr Antonio replied.
Turning to his officer, the sheriff asked "What all the ruckus earlier officer?"
"Nothing sir its all sorted out, just a family dissagreement" the officer said as he glanced in our direction
"Now behave and make sure you don't do anything irractional to jeopardize your apology" Mum murmured in my ear
"Yes mum" ok I can do this. Sorry face ON!. We move towards the group and then mum speaks first...
"Good day Mr Antonio, you might not know me but I am Maria Kent, mother of Katherine Kent."
"Nice to meet you Maria" they shake hands.
"Sir I am so sorry for the vandalization of your personal property, Katie is having some emotional troubles now, I promise she won't bother you or your daughter. Please Sir, kindly drop the charges, I'll make sure to keep an eye on her from now on. She's just a teen with a lot to live for"
"You will keep an eye on her from now on?" he sounds angry.
"Ma'am she is your daughter, she should have always been under your watchful eyes, such attitude should not be condoned, you as a parent should know that"
Wow! He's literally coaching mum on how to be a mum, I'm laughing out loud right now but in my mind though, I dare not let it out.
"Sir I apologize for her misconduct and my un-attentiveness, Katherine would you like to say something?"
"Yes umm... I'm sorry sir for umm... Vandalizing your property, I'm deeply sorry my hormones took over. sorry sir" I didn't know I could stammer.
"Any more words" mum said looking at me.
"No mum"
"It seems your forgetting someone" she said poking me.
"Yes forgetting someone" I turn to see Camille smirking, beside her Mr Antonio is nodding his head.
"I'm sorry Camille" I forced out of my mouth.
"Huh! I didn't hear you" she came closer with her hands behind her ears
"That's enough camille" Mr Antonio said
"We accept your apology and I will drop the charges on one condition"
"Sir??" me and mum chorused
"Dad!!! "camille shouted
"Sir anything" this time I spoke up.
"Ok, ma'am your daughter has to attend GREY HIGH"
"Whatt... " we all chorused.
"Grey whatt!" I mumbled, I haven't heard of any school in the state called grey high. I mean who would even name a school grey high?.
"Um... Sir I don't think I've heard of that school before and its sounds strange plus, I don't think I have money for extra tuition." Hmmm... so that's where I got the stammering from?
"Don't worry the school is for challenged students like your daughter, it would help with her character and help rebuild her to become a wonderful woman that would make her family and of course her mother proud. The school is not located in the states if thats what you're wondering, its in Norway and Please do not worry about tuition I think I can handle that, what do you think of a scholarship Katherine?"
"Wow, well I think its fine by me" I said
"Oh less I forget, its a boarding school in Norway and I think she will do just great as a transfer student, we can also keep an eye on her to monitor her progress."
"Thank you sir but is that all?" I asked
"Pardon" he seemed thrown aback by my question
"Oh sorry let me rephrase the question. Is that all you want me to do, no stay away from my daughter? No house arrest? No warrant? No warnings?"
"No, I think I've said it all, I did say one condition didn't I? One final addition though, don't be late, I know the headmistress, she does not condone it"
"Thank you sir, I'm so happy, mum I'm not going to juve shit! This is the best moment of my life" I said with excitement, I ain't going to juve!!! Definitely the best moment.
"Language child! Thank you so very much sir for your generosity and we are very happy you gave us this condition as a chance to save my daughter, we do accept your condition sir but might I ask when she leaves for this school?"
"Next week"
"NEXT WEEK!! Are you kidding me? I thought my college years have been paid for, its not College? I can't leave... I have a life here, man I can't go to Norway."
"Just a second ago you were happy and looking like a unicorn and suddenly you're ungrateful, just the katie I know. Besides what life do you have here? Massie? Seriously you're a joke, you should be grateful, dad isn't suing you and better gear up cause you're getting out of my life next week, I can't be mad now can I?"
Camille said all the while smirking.
"I will take my leave now, I have other things to attend to, I hope there won't be any disapointments?"
"No sir, not at all she will be ready, come next week, thank you once again and we'll be taking our leave also" this time mother said grabbing my hand, I need to think of something...
"I can't go, I don't have a passport"
"Don't worry, my secretary will get in touch with you concerning the school"
"You don't have my number!" I countered, He sighs. Yes! I've hit the jackpot.
"I am a man of many resources miss Katie no doubt, expect a phone call soon" he smiles.
I guess this is it then... I have to stage another escape...
