Chapter 18: Teach Me
After Grey replaced his cell in his back pocket, he gave Emma a hug and locked all the windows.
“I want you to stay in this room with Lily, he said. “Lily, keep your gun handy, but don’t shoot one of us.”
Lily rolled her eyes as Dierk and Finn came into my bedroom.
“Do either of you recognize him?” Grey asked.
“I’ve seen him working at the lumberyard out on route ten,” Dierk replied. “He lives in Kaleston.”
I knew Kaleston was a town just south of Denhurst.
“Why would a Kaleston shifter break into Denhurst to try to kill Emma?” Grey pondered aloud.
“He’s older,” Finn said, looking at the body. “He’s gotta be at least fifty. Maybe he knew Emma’s mom and dad.”
“Or somebody paid him and the others to come here and hurt Emma,” Dierk suggested.
“Shifter hitmen?” I said and shook my head. “All this hate for someone they don’t know is ridiculous.”
“Are you sure you saw a blonde woman with the intruders, Emma?” Grey asked.
