Chapter 18 Accident

  Luke looked around and found nothing unusual, so he went and knocked on the door,

"Dong Dong..."

  There was no response.

  "Dong dong"

  Luke knocked on the door again, but there was still no response.

  "Lindsay, open the door, I know you live here."

  After a while, there was a slight movement in the room, "Who are you? What do you want?"

  "I'm David's partner, and we saw each other two days ago. David asked me to bring you something."

  "No, I don't need anything, just leave me alone, you can go."

  "David is watching from the car, you should know of his temper, if you don't open the door, then wait for him to come, he'll just kick it open, don't complicate things."

The door opened, Lindsay bowed her head and stepped aside, letting Luke in.

  The house is messy, all kinds of things are randomly placed, there are some leftover takeaways on the table, a pair of men's boots are placed under it, and a large-head TV is placed against the wall. This kind of TV is rarely seen in China.

  Lindsay picked up the boots and threw them into the bedroom, "Tell me, what's the matter with me?"

  When Luke got back in the car, David looked a little uneasy.

  After a while of silence, David asked, "How is her condition?"

  Luke didn't plan to talk about the boots. As an experienced police officer in criminal investigation, David should have guessed it long ago.

  Breaking that layer of window paper will only make everyone embarrassed, "Your wife was a policewoman?"

  "Wednesday night?"

  "Yes."

  "For how long?"

  "About forty minutes or so."

  "I see, keep the surveillance records and wait for my call."

  Luke hung up the phone and David asked "That girl from last night?"

  "Yes, there was something wrong with her."

  "Looks like you two are getting along well."

  "It's not what you think, she's was just asking me for help."

  "come on, I was there too, many relationships start with helping, asking for help means she's interested in you."

  "David, do you remember the robber I caught?"

  "Of course, the bastard's name is Tim, I also participated in his interrogation.

  According to Tim's account, he has been short of money recently, and just wanted to make some quick money, then saw the news of the 'Taser robbery', and immediately went to imitate the crime and tried to put the blame on the other party. Is there any problem?"

  "Daisy is a lawyer. During dinner last night, she said that her office in the law firm had been has been searched. I suggested that she checks the surveillance records. She found that there was a temporary power outage on Wednesday night. Therefore there was no monitoring for a while. Don't you think it's too much of a coincidence?"

  David asked, "Could it be that she was being paranoid? Many victims are nervous and suspicious after they are robbed."

  "Daisy's in good shape."

  Luke analyzed the two scenarios last night, but both were based on the post-Daisy robbery.

  And now the surveillance shows that the problem occurred on Wednesday night, and the previous inferences can't be used.

  It would be fine if it was a coincidence.

  What if it wasn't a coincidence?

  Daisy's office was infiltrated on Wednesday night and robbed on Thursday night.

  Suppose that the suspect entered Daisy's office with the intention of stealing something, but could not find it, so he tried to rob her directly the next night.

  Based on this analysis, the robbery on Thursday night was probably not an impromptu intention, but a premeditated crime with a clear goal.

  The suspect, Tim, lied, probably hiding an even larger conspiracy.

  "I want to talk to Daisy."

  "Go ahead, I want to be alone."

  "OK, see you later." Luke wanted to get out of the car.

  "Don't be silly, you can't get a taxi here at all, I'll put you in a place where you can get a cab."

  "You've become more caring."

  "Yeah, someone still wants to replace me though."

  "If you get rid of your bad temper, reckless and impulsive behavor, and Listen to good advice. I can consider not changing partners."

  David pouted, "Haha, you'd better replace me then."

At 11:30 in the morning, Rose Bar.   

Luke and Daisy decided to meet here for two reasons.  

 One is that the two of them are familiar with this place, and the other is that there are fewer people here at noon, and is relatively quiet and suitable for having a conversation.   The bartender looked surprised when he saw the two walking into the bar together, "Wow... so soon... master!"  

 "Danny, a lamb chop set, a steak set. The bartender made an OK Gesture, and gave Luke another thumbs up when Daisy wasn't paying attention, Luke smiled, ignoring him.   The waiter brought two glasses of white water first, and Daisy took a sip and moistened her throat, "Luke, what should I do now?"

  "I'm going to ask you a few questions now to determine whether the monitoring power outage is accidental or deliberate."   

"Okay."  

 "Has your firm ever had a power outage before?"  

 "Never, as far as I know no."  

 "If the suspect committed the theft on Wednesday night, you should have noticed by Thursday. Why did you only find out on Sunday?"   

"I saw a client in the morning on Thursday and appeared in court in the afternoon, and I didn't have time to sort out the documents that day."  

"Have you offended anyone recently?"   

"No."  

 "Don't be in a hurry to deny it, Think carefully about whether your work has infringed on the interests of others? Or some of your actions habe caused damage to the interests of others."   

"I am a lawyer, and my duty is to safeguard the interests of my clients. Conflict of interest is a normal thing in this line of work, but it's all legal and I can't think of anyone who would commit theft."

  Luke sternly said, "The problem is not just the theft. If the theft is not accidental, it is likely to be related to the robbery on Thursday night. This may be more serious than you think."

  "You mean, I'm I still in danger?"

  Luke explained. "Let's suppose the suspect went to your office Wednesday night to steal something, but he didn't find it. The item was so important to him or them, thar he or they attempted to robb you directlyon Thursday night. But that didn't work as well.

  You see the suspect Tim is definitely not coming out anytime soon, but that doesn't mean he doesn't havr any accomplices..."
