42 Banquet

The next day, at dawn.

Blackthorn Security Company. Tingen.

Klein was sitting in the armory, with a huge stack of papers in front of him.

In the papers, many pathways and extraordinary organizations were documented, with some basic knowledge attached to them.

Flipping through the papers, Klein learnt about the major organizations that he was bound to meet.

Suddenly, the name of a certain organization caught his eye.

'Nemesis Order'

[A guild/Mercenary organization.

They accept Beyonders regardless of their identity and Sequence.

..

They have reached a tacit understanding with the official churches, as they frequently cooperate with each other.]

Reading the information, Klein started to wonder if this was an organization that Roselle created.

'Or are there other transmigrators?', Klein became slightly excited.

Although he may have intergrated into this new world, Klein still felt like an outsider and never fully accepted his transmigration.

This is also the reason why he longed to get more of Roselle's diaries, to try and find more clues about his fellow transmigrator.

Reading further, something that made Klein surprised was the lack of information regarding the organizations working under the royal family.

Old Neil sat next to him and Klein didn't hesitate to ask.

"Mr. Neil, why is there no mention of the royal family and the nobles?"

Old Neil appeared to be thinking for a second before shaking his head.

"I only know that many nobles start as Arbiters."

"As for the Sequences beyond that, that's not something I can know.", he responded.

Klein nodded.

He knew that no matter how knowledgeable Old Neil was, he was just a Sequence 9 Beyonder after all.

In fact, the reason that Klein wanted to learn about the royal family was because of Mr. Emperor.

From Mr. Emperor's mannerisms and speech, Klein believed that he may actually be a member of the royal family.

This could also explain his knowledge regarding high-level extraordinary matters, as well as his disgust for the churches.

Even in his past life, the royal family and the churches were lifelong enemies, both in the East and the West.

At the same time, Alexander sat on a carriage, wearing a black suit comprised of a white shirt, a black vest and black trousers.

It wasn't that he had suddenly decided to enjoy the luxurious life of a nobleman, but he was on his way to attend a banquet.

Since he had transmigrated, he had received many invitations, but he had been politely turning them down, with the excuse of griefing for the death of his father.

In reality, he was way that someone would realize that he was a Beyonder.

At such banquets, there would either be Beyonders attending, or they would be secretely protecting the nobles.

Alexander didn't want to take a bet.

However, now, with his identity as an MI9 officer, he finally had a reasonable explanation for having extraordinary power.

He didn't forget that one of the rituals to promote to a Black Emperor was to link his name with the title of 'Emperor', among many other things.

This made him guess that the ritual required for Sequence 5-1 may also have requirements related to nobility.

Moreover, coming in contact with people who had power in the Loen Kingdom would allow him to digest his potions faster.

Of course, as almost every decision in this world, him attending the banquet could also prove dangerous.

For example, George III was bored preparing for his ascension and decided to take a break and also attend the banquet.

But the possibility of that happening should be minimal.

Right?

Just as he finished that thought, the carriage stopped, signaling that they had arrived at their destination.

Alexander got off, climbed some stairs and found himself in front of the mansion's entrance.

A tall man with strong build and dressed in a white suit stood next to the entrance, checking the invitations of the guests that wanted to get in.

Alexander showed his invitation and got inside, only to be met with a huge living room.

The ceiling was 10 meters high, with many chandeliers hanging, illuminating the entire room.

It was filled with people, as around 50 people were either standing next to the dining table, or chatting among each other while sitting on one of the many couches.

Just as he was about to sigh about the life of the nobility, a young man with golden hair and a skinny appearance walked in front of him.

This young man was the owner of the mansion, Viscout Glaint.

Seeing that another guest had arrived, he took the initiative to greet him.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Alexander.", Glaint said, in accordance with the aristocratic manners of the Loen Kingdom.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Glaint.", Alexander replied back.

Alexander and Glaint were not friends, so after greeting each other, Graint left.

Taking the opportunity, Alexander examined the people at the room, only to find that most of them were like him.

In a strict sense, they weren't nobles, but their wealth or their power was comparable or even more than one.

Unfortunately, Alexander didn't lack such connections, causing him to become slightly disappointed.

One of the reasons he attended this particular banquet was because he hoped that he would be able to meet Audrey.

It wasn't that he wanted to admire her beauty, but because he knew that although she wouldn't inherit the Earl title, she would still have a substantial weight in the politics of the Loen Kingdom.

With this in mind and knowing that he wouldn't be able to achieve his goal today, he walked in front of the dining table and started munching on some cakes.

Looking around, he noticed that a few of the ladies were peeking at his direction, but he didn't care.

This was something he always found weird.

In the novels, the main character would always be impressed by the appearance of every single lady he met on his journey and strive to include them in his harem.

My friend, you lived in the 21st century.

You could literally see thousands of beautiful women with a single google search, why are you drooling over every woman you meet?

While sighing at the shamelessness of both the authors and the readers, Alexander felt a pat on his shoulder and returned back to reality.

Turning his head, Alexander was surprised to find a familiar person, Natalie.

"Good afternoon, I didn't expect to meet you here.", Alexander greeted politely.

"Why not?"

"I'll let you know that my ancestor used to be a Duke.", Natalie replied with an exaggerated proud expression on her face.

Although Alexander couldn't verify the validity of her claims, he nodded his head, indicating that he agreed with her words.

In fact, Alexander didn't know anything about her, even though they had become teammates.

This applied to both Natalie and the rest of the MI9 members.

Not only had he been busy courting death, but he also didn't care enough.

No matter how much he tried to, he couldn't really regard the people around him as real people.

In his mind, these people were more like NPCs.

Would you try to understand the backstory of every single NPC in a video game?

Alexander could admit that he wouldn't.
