Chapter 091

"What happened to your father, Stephen? I didn't see him anywhere" said Alvin, trying to calm Evan down with the memory of his father. He remembered this is how anchors for angels and gods worked.

Sure enough, Evan calmed down a bit.

"They gave me my father when I was first brought here" he said in a gloomy voice. "He doesn't talk. No, he can't talk. He will never talk" said the voice.

"What happened?" asked Alvin.

The voice ignored Alvin and continued, "I don't want him anymore. I will give him to you now"

Alvin felt something brush up against his torso. He instinctively held out his hand, and he felt something cold and slippery thing was put into his hand.

Alvin realised it was probably the Beyonder characteristic left behind after the death of Stephen Rosier.

Alvin then stayed silent, because he was unsure of what to say. Eventually he asked, "What then?"

"Then I was scared. But I became bigger. I wasn't scared anymore. I can hear those bad people yelling in pain. And I can hear the whispers of the True Creator" said the voice.

Alvin felt goosebumps up his spine, but he remained calm and asked, "Do you still hear it? The whispers I mean?"

"Yes. I can't hear those bad men anymore. They stopped. Then I heard other people fighting the bad guys. They stopped. Then I heard you. You haven't stopped. But I have been hearing the whispers of the True Creator for a long time, and it didn't stop. No, it won't stop. It isn't stopping" said the voice. Then it suddenly yelled, "I WANT TO MAKE IT STOP!"

Alvin fell to the ground in pain, as he started feeling signs of losing control. He then stopped hearing sounds clearly for a while. He wasn't aware how much time had passed, but it felt like an eternity. But then, he started calming down. The pollution, headaches and injuries started fading. He then opened his eyes.

He saw two people in front of him. One was the Gordon. The other was a clean looking old man. Alvin shot to his feet and hurriedly saluted him, because he was wearing black and red robes with the Evernight Sacred Emblems on his chest.

"Greetings Archbishop" said Alvin.

The old man nodded, and said tuned to Gordon and said, "I felt a surge of demigod level energy in this location, and thus hurried over. I saw multiple Nighthawks including you struggling to break down what appeared to be a degenerate wall by a Black Night. In it is a Beyonder who is on the verge of losing control. What happened here?" asked the archbishop.

"Your grace, this is Alvin Jonas, an informant recruited by me. As you might know from the time we asked permission, we managed to get a lead on a possible Oracle of the Aurora here in Backlund, and were pursuing it. The captured Oracle is already at the cathedral. The operation was a resounding success, but it was in large part because all the Beyonders here seemed exhausted, while a portion of them were already dead, and it seemed that it was because they exerted themselves to seal something. Believing that we were safe unless the seal was disturbed, I went to the cathedral to drop off the prisoners and arrange for someone to approach you for instructions. When I came back here, I realised that the thing that was supposed to be sealed unexpectedly triggered, blanketing everyone in the building inside that degenerate wall. All the other members of my units were at the outer parts, and had some escaping methods, and they were safe, but Alvin was standing guard near the passageway to the basement, and coupled with his lack of escaping means, was sucked in" said Gordon.

The archbishop and Gordon then turned to Alvin.

"Your Grace, I will be happy to show you" said Alvin. He had considered it just now, and there was nothing in the conversation that he particularly wanted to hide. And plus, with the archbishop personally here, it was better to volunteer to give up the events in the form of a dream than for the archbishop to decide he was going to do that for him.

The archbishop nodded, and gestured for him to go ahead. Alvin subtly placed at his shoe, where the pink flower pattern had appeared at some point.

He then began to imagine the conversation as succinctly as possible, which was easy to do since it had just taken place.

After listening in on the conversation, the archbishop nodded and said, "The thing he swallowed could be a Sequence 4 characteristic. I am now very interested in this matter. You will report any follow-ups of this matter to me personally, and update me on the previous happenings as soon as we get back. And I will also interrogate that Oracle personally"

"Your grace, there is another prisoner we caught here in the cathedral. This was on his person" said Gordon, handing over what Alvin could recognise as the badge depicting Nighthawk informants. "You should personally take charge of this matter. I will report to you with all the details"

The archbishop raised his eyebrows, but nodded while taking the badge. He then looked around and said, "How did Evan Rosier escape without a trace? I can't find even the slightest sign of him"

"The Shepard in the cathedral had only 3 souls grazed. Two might have been snatched by the partially demigod Evan Rosier, and there may have been some Beyonder power good at wiping traces" volunteered Gordon.

The archbishop nodded, and then said, "Looks like the reinforcements you called for are arriving. Let them secure the scene. Gordon, meet me back at the cathedral" and then soared off into the night.

"Looks like I have a long night ahead of me. Thankfully, I am a Sleepless" grumbled Gordon, but he looked pleased.

He then turned around and said, "Rest for tonight. Let us meet early tomorrow morning at the office. Good job today"

He raised his right hand and tapped his chest four times in a clockwise fashion.

"Praise the Lady" he said, to which everyone else including Alvin mirrored his action and said, "Praise the Lady"
