2 Chapter 002

A loud bell from the Saint Heirländ Cathedral echoed throughout the street, signifying that it was 5 in the morning. The streets were mostly deserted, with almost no movement all across. There were dozens of cramped apartments in this part of the East Borough. These apartments were either crowded, stuffed to the brim with the workers from nearby factories, or ghostly empty, being a hidden base for the many roughnecks and lawbreakers of Backlund. These places were notoriously left unprotected by the police for the most part, and this made this a great place to lay low.

Even for Beyonders.

In one such apartment, a young man who looked about 20 years of age, who looked to have passed out on the floor, woke up groggily.

"Oh...what a headache. I must have had too much to drink again. What time is it?" he thought, as he attempted to stand up. He looked at his wrist, and instead of a watch, he saw what appeared to be a weird looking bracelet. Confused, he reached for his pockets to find his phone. He seemed to be wearing a tight fitting outfit with dozens of pockets, each filled with bottles, random assortments of coins, pieces of paper and other such miscellaneous trinkets

"What the heck am I wearing? I will get sacked from my job if I am photographed in this ridiculous outfit" he thought in panic as he looked down and saw the red and black outfit, which seemed like something a hunter would wear, complete with tight fitting boots and gloves.

He looked around the room in panic as he tried to get his bearings. He spotted a mirror at the end of the wall, and he hurried over to get a better look at himself.

As looked into the mirror, he saw a young man, with reddish brown hair and black eyes staring back at him.

The young man touched his face in panic as he saw the unfamiliar face, only for the figure in the mirror to do the exact same thing.

He stood still for a few seconds in panic. He then tried to recall what exactly he was doing before he ended up here.

"Ughhh" he exclaimed as a sharp pain shot through his head. He crumpled to the floor clutching his head and tried his best to stay focused. He curled into a fetal position, and maintained the pose for a while.

He then looked at the mirror in a mixture of shock, horror, extreme fear, and some excitement.

"So I have been transmigrated. Into the exceedingly horrific world of the Lord of the Mysteries no less", he thought in awe.

Being in the world of Lord of the Mysteries meant that his previous life back in the 'modern' world was over. He had gone forward in time a few thousand years, into a distorted and crazy world trending towards some kind of unification. He didn't really mind, as he really didn't have many ties in his previous life, and the few he did were not that reliant on him.

Instead, he was excited to live out a brand new life in a totally different world. From the crazy things he remembered about this world, while he had a chance of dying from virtually doing anything, as long as he had enough power, he could do as he pleases, and live a fulfilling life with plenty of riches and convenience.

Furthermore, he remembered all kinds of details about this world, including the events, potion formulas, and secrets. Even though he had forgotten parts of it, there were plenty of methods to recall it perfectly. The right item of the Savant Pathway could probably boost his memory and analytical powers long enough for him to recall what he had seen, as it did for Roselle Gustav or Huang Tao. He could use the method frequently used by Klien Morretti or Zhou Mingru, that is dream divination, under the right circumstances. He could also use the Spectator Pathways method of exploring the subconscious mind.

But for the time, he had a few problems to solve. First, he was not yet a Beyonder. He had the Potion formulas for 2 of his desired Pathways, but had the ingredients to none. He was in the process of collecting it when he heard rumours of it being present among a lot of things valuable things in a remote town to the east of Backlund. Luckily for Alvin, his family used to own a summer mansion in that location. It was primarily used to entertain guests and keep up appearances while the family members were visiting Backlund, and he was tasked to manage it for a while when he had just attained adulthood. Hence, he was familiar with the general layout and the people of interest in the small town. But he wasn't a Beyonder. While he could probably square off against the less powerful Sequence 9 with his experience, equipment, and the couple of mystical items he had, he stood no chance against truly powerful Beyonders. But this was a chance he could simply not miss, hence he decided to go all in on this opportunity. He used the best of his abilities to make several traps, arrangements, and even anonymously reported the upcoming incident to the official Beyonders.

He then patiently waited for the incidents to develop.

Sure enough, a bunch of people following the rumours turned up. They proceeded to explore the supposed location of the treasure. They managed to trigger a bunch of really horrifying creatures and items as they were dismantling everything in sight. Finally, they reached the core of the arrangement, a tiny red box. They tried to pry it open, but were unable to succeed. Just as they were arguing about what they should do, they started suddenly dozing off one by one. The ones who were still awake were quick to realise the presence of Nighthawks, and they started fighting.

According to his plan, Alvin waited until the Nighthawks had firmly secured the upper hand, and used a previously agreed upon method to signal a local ruffian to set fire to a a in the distance. The ruffian did as agreed, and it set a huge fire that could be seen from a large distance.

As predicted, a few Nighthawks took off towards the fire, leaving the remaining members in vigil. Alvin then with the help of the two mystical items in his possession, took the tiny red box, and quickly fled.
