Our Family Dinner

I leave my room to see if dinner is ready, as I exit I bump into Asagi.

"Sorry, Asagi I wasn't looking where I was going"

"It's okay Lady Karma, how are you feeling?"

"I'm okay, how about you?"

"I'm good thanks for asking, Miss Karma if you feel uncomfortable in the room you are staying in, I can move you to another one"

"Thank you, Asagi I'll keep that in mind" He probably remembered what happened 6 years ago too. "Asagi do you know if dinner is ready yet?"

"Yes, in fact, I was coming to get you"

"Thank you Asagi" He bowed and walked away, I made my way downstairs to the dining room. When I get there I see mom and Kaname talking, they both look at me.

"Karma, Kaname, and I were just catching up," Mom says with a big smile, I haven't seen her this happy in a while. I take a seat across from Kaname and the maids bring out our food.

"That's good, hey mom do you think you could answer my question now?"

"Sure, why not"

"Wait what question?" Kaname looks at me then mom in confusion.

"I asked her why she isn't paired with either a Quincy or a shinigami"

"Karma you can't just ask people that"

"Why not, she's my mother"

"Okay that's enough you two I'll tell you, I'm not paired with a shinigami because I will live over 70 and I refused to pair with a Quincy about 5 years ago"

"Wait you refused a Quincy power?" Kaname said in disbelief.

"Why would you do that?"

"Because the war had already started, if I had a Quincy power I'd have to fight against you and your Father. There's no way I could ever hurt any of you especially you two and Kami."

"What about before the war, have you ever had any kind of power? Father had his first pairing at 13."

"I never had any powers, I never wanted any powers either"

"How come?"

"Because I have a long life and 3 beautiful children what more could I need"

"Good point mom I don't know what Karma was thinking asking that in the first place" Kaname kicks me underneath the table, I hold my shin underneath the table and glare at Kaname.

"Don't worry about it Kaname, Karma has always been curious. She reminds me of myself when I was young."

"Seriously?" I say sitting up in my chair with excitement.

"Yes, I was also very adventurous just like you" Mom says smiling at me, I smile back and stretch out my tongue at Kaname.

"Eat your food Karma" Kaname says as he kicks me under the table again. I kick him back and look at mom.

"Mom you've taken over Father's business as he fights in the war right?"

"Yes I have,why?"

"Kaname and I were wondering if we could come help you out there for the week"

"Of course you guys can, I could really use the help"

"Thanks Mom" I say with a smile then I look at Kaname, his eyes are closed.

He opens them and says "Thanks Mom, I still need the training so this means a lot"

"It's really no problem, you guys are he ones helping me, we've got a busy day tomorrow so you guts better go to bed early. Good night you too." Mom gets up from the table and walks into the kitchen.

"If I was an idiot you'd be screwed" Kaname says giving me a stressed expression.

"Father doesn't have idiots make battle strategies."

"You plan to look for that file huh,"

"Of course"

"So why not just tell her that you're looking for something"

"I don't want her to be upset about it"

"K, I doubt she'd be upset. She already knows you're looking for him."

"Her eyes get so sad whenever I mention him" I look down at my plate.

"Distract her while I look for it" I jerk my head up at Kaname, who has a determined look on his face. "If you can distract her long enough I can look for the file, we only have 5 days to do this."

"R-right" I give Kaname a small smile and he smiles back.
