She could just shake her head. Was this just some kind of crazy nightmare? When could she wake up?

Lori met her husband at the door to the garage as he came home from his office an hour early. She’d called him there but had been told by his secretary that he was on the way home. She’d fallen into his arms before he could get fully into the house.
“Maggie called around three,” she announced. “The trial is over already; we should be seeing something about it on the news.”
David looked into his wife’s face, then held her close to him. He shot glances at his sons and shook his head quickly to warn them not to interrupt. “Yes. Someone called me.” He already knew the answer. He’d come home early because the phones to his office were ringing off the hook with reporters wanting interviews.
