I'm Sorry

Why are these Obles killing us? How can they even endure the adrenaline to harm someone else? They are Obels! In the Monarch, Rebels are the ones who do the execution, and Obels make the rules. Obels can never get their hands dirty with the blood of innocence! Sometimes I always see that the Monarch is being unfair. Though the Riotist bloodline has a voice in the ruling, the Royalist bloodline will always make the final decision.

I asked my father once, and he said it's because Rebels make rules based on their reckless ego. But Obels are more logical and rational. I also once asked him why an Alloyist bloodline cannot rule. All he said was, "they are the problem." I never agreed with the Monarch. Even though I had spent my whole life growing up in one of the most respected Royalist families. This is my first time seeing this stupid Political system as fair. Alloyist bloodline should be allowed to be in the Monarch!

Anaral from the Alloyist bloodline is a mix of Rebel and Obel, making them think like and act like a Rebel. They can fight and make peace. They can be angry and dominant. They are Obel and Rebel. Just because they become a Demit once they die does not mean they are the problem.

Why am I even thinking about the Monarch right now?

I lay my back on the cold hard ground, staring at nothing. I'm already getting used to the smell of dried blood and humid temperature by the time drowsiness takes over me.

I almost drifted into sleep when someone opened the metal door.

"Ava," then someone whispers loudly from my cell. At first, I contemplate seeing who it is, but then I hear a metal clunking sound, and someone touches my legs.

My eyelids fly open, and I immediately rise to a sitting position.

"Liam?" I rub my eyes to make sure I'm not dreaming.

"Hey, are you okay?" he cups my face in his hand. He lets his beautiful green eyes linger around my face, making me feel like I was home for a second. "You're hurt."

"It's just a scratch," I try to quirk my lips into a smirk, but then I wince from the pain on my bruised cheek.

He smiles back at me, and I feel warmth creeping up my whole body.

"I'm sorry, I should've come by sooner!" he pulls me into a tight hug. I can feel his heart beating so fast. "I would never forgive myself if something bad happened to you! I'm so sorry!"

He releases me from his embrace, and I want to go back into his strong arms and let myself cry on his chest. Oh, how I miss him! It hurts that this is how our lives have become. I want to go back to the way it used to, playing in the lake with him, going to the movies with our friends, and just simply talking about random things that would always make us laugh.

He looks so mature now, with his short and subtle facial hair. He even got so much taller and became a decently bulky man. He was always the sweet-looking guy with long wavy golden hair. He used to be so intimidated by Lucas's manly figure.

Look at him now! I think he can beat Lucas's ass easily. His brother will be proud to see how Liam has grown into a fine young man. I can't help myself from smiling at the image of Lucas being tackled by Liam. You better watch out for your brother, Lucas!

"Come on, we don't have much time before the guards come down here!" he pulls me up.

"Where are we going?" I turn my face from him to the soundlessly sleeping Sierra. "I have to get my friend out of here!"

Liam shakes his head slowly. "Ava, I'm sorry! But I can't let you both out of this place."

I frown at him, "but where are you taking me?"

"To my bungalow," he smiles at me, but it only makes me feel more uneasy. "Pete wants you to be moved there."

"But I can't leave Sierra here!" I should have never made a promise I can't keep. Even though I can't save her now, I want her to feel okay for a while. I want to assure her that I will stick by her side whatever happens.

"I'm sorry, Ava. But I can't take you both now. Pete only wants you out." He takes my hand and leads me out of the cell.

But I pull my hand away from him. "No, Liam! I can't! I won't leave her."

Liam sighs, but he comes closer to me. "She's not even going to make it to another night, Ava," he whispers to me without leaving his gaze on Sierra.

I stare at him wide-eyed, and anger forms in my chest. "What do you mean?"

Guilt crosses his face, and his eyes look sad. I hate the omnipresent thought, even in the ones I care about the most. "Pete wants her to leave this cell in the morning."

"What do you even mean?"

"They're going to kill her, Ava!" Liam runs his fingers through his hair, looking frustrated.

"You can't kill her, Liam! She's my friend!" I push him away from me, and I walk out of my cell. I can't believe this shit! They're killing us for no reason!

"Ava, please! Don't do this," Liam approaches me, but I wave him off. I put my arms up to keep some space between us.

"Why, Liam? What did she do?" My voice croaks, and I know I'm about to yell if he comes nearer.

"She didn't do anything."

"Why do you want to kill her then?" hot tears stream down my cheeks. I know they are Rebel's tears because I can see Liam's perplexed reaction.

"I can't explain it now, but I will explain everything once we get to my bungalow! I promise." He reaches for my hands, but I fend him off. My back hits Sierra's cell rails, waking her from sleep.

"Ava?" her soft voice is caught behind me, and I turn around to face her. She walks up to me, and I can't help myself from crying. I don't want to leave her here! I know that back in the camp, we were never close, but I can't abandon her!

"I can't," I can hardly speak when she comes closer to me as she grips the bars between us. "Sierra, you have to get out of here with me!" I take her hands, reluctant to let go.

"What's wrong? How are you out of your cell? Where are you going?" she sounds worried. She should, but not for me but for herself. "Are they going to take you away?" tears start to form on the edge of her blue eyes.

I shake my head when I can't speak up because the tears have gotten inside my mouth. I turn my face back to Liam. "Get her out!" I plead to him.

"Ava, I can't!" Liam still doesn't move from his place.

"GET HER OUT!" I shout at him from the top of my lungs. My palms are sweaty, and I can feel the raging adrenaline in my body as it is going to explode. "Please, I'm begging you!" I say again, sounding more vulnerable.

Then suddenly, two guards come into the room. "What's going on here?"

One of them says as he approaches me. He's not as tall as Liam, but he's still stronger compared to me. "Why is she out of her cell?"

He reaches for my arm, but my hand has already curled tight into a fist. My anger explodes when he is only an inch away from me, and I punch his face so hard. As he stumbles into the ground, the other guard beside Liam rushes to me. "What the hell..."

I was ready to give another angry punch, but Liam suddenly stood between the angry guard and me.

"Peter wants her!" Liam raises his hands to stop him. "If you hurt her, you know what Pete will do to you."

The guard freezes in his place, and he nods obediently to Liam.

"I'll take her from here," Liam says, putting his arm around my waist and dragging me away from Sierra.

"NO! LET ME GO!" I try to yank my body out of his grip, but Liam only tightens it up, making me suffocate.

"No!" Sierra extends her arms to catch me, but it comes to no avail. "Please, don't take her! Just take me and let her go! She's done nothing wrong. Please have mercy!"

I try to break myself free from Liam and kick his legs. I can hear him swearing, but he doesn't loosen his grasp.

I catch a glance at Sierra before the guard closes the door. She's crying and still trying to reach me with her tiny arm. "I'm sorry!" I whisper to the air, hoping she can see me before the darkness swallows me again.
