-[Kirei Kotomine preset]
Ahhhhh....rewards!
Just looking at the screen filled me with joy! All the physical and mental strain on me suddenly disappeared at the thought of fun ol skills to play with. Especially a new, high level skill to!
Say didn't some skills level up?
"ACKK-!"
I crashed to the ground yet again.
Fucking physique of mine.
The pain wasn't as bad this time, accounting for all the bullshit I've been through, yet still it feels like I'm getting stabbed all over my body. My muscles especially were feeling it, and it also felt like I was on fire as well. Just great. I gritted my teeth, barely getting myself to a sitting postion as I looked at the screen again.
[CQC (Close quarters combat) at lvl.3 the range is upgraded to 9 meters and is always active. Constant usage of CQC is required to level this skill up.]
[Empowered physqiue, Initiate level skill, lvl.2: At lvl. 2 the user will gain advanced muscle memory, allowing the user to somewhat recall and replicate physical abilities they have been exposed to, even with minimal prior training.]
[Your body is growing, adapting to past experiences...]
[Congratulations! You have aquired Super Bajiquan (false): A style of fighting born from the miraculous combination of martial arts and magecraft. A purely offensive style, designed to strike the internal structure of the body rather then the external.]
"OHHHH!"
Isn't that like, really good?
"So if I do more martial arts n shit I can learn more?"
[Correct.]
Sweet!
The pain was worth it all for this shit. Basically got a free skill out of a skill.
"System show status."
[Name: August Ramos]
[Hunter level: Initiate]
[Strength: F]
[Endurance: F+]
[Agility: F]
[Stamina: F+]
[Intelligence: F]
[Skills: CQC lvl.3, Empowered physique lvl.2, Percute Sancti lvl.1, Super Bajiquan.]
[Presets: John Wick, Kirei Kotomine]
My stats have all been buffed by a few levels, and that new strength flowed through my body. It was just a bit weaker then how I felt when I had the Kirei preset but damn I felt strong.
Might as well see if I know how to use Super Bajiquan still.
I tried to recall how I used it, how I shifted my body during the fight with Jason. My muscles seemed to remember the movements, despite the pain. I slowly got into a familiar stance, feeling the flow of energy align with my new skill.
"Alright, let's see if I still got it."
With a deep breath, I moved through the basic forms, each motion feeling more precise and powerful than before. It wasn't perfect, my body seemed to remember how to move but my brain didn't, which resulted in:
"Ah fuck!"
I tripped on the ground as I tried to use the moving stance again. I assumed that I'd just know how to do all of this perfectly again, but I think with a little practice I should be able to use this in a battle soon.
'Oh yeah my random skill!'
"System, give me that random skill!"
[Gladly, do you wish for a small explanation of how the selection works?]
"Nah, it's probably just a pool of Apprentice level skills picked at random right?"
[Correct.]
"Then no need, just let me get my good ol skill!"
[Selection has begun.]
A big ass wheel popped up in front of me, full of small skill names. It started to spin incredibly fast, making my clothes fly up,
'Come on gacha don't fail me now!'
Me and Serria spent so much of out free time playing those goddamn gacha games, only to get shafted. I BETTER get something good out of this.
But Serria huh?
Damnit my brain hurts if I try to think about it.
[Congratulations!]
Before I could try to figure out what was wrong with me, the wheel suddenly stopped. Confetti shot out from behind the wheel as the skill it landed on lit up.
[You have aquired: Minds eye (true) lvl.1!]
[Minds eye (true), Apprentice level, lvl.1: A natural instinct that calmly grasps the battle conditions even when in danger and deduce an appropriate course of action after considering all possibilities to escape from a predicament. So long there is even a 1% chance of a comeback, this ability greatly improves the chances of winning. In the case where the user cannot grasp where the enemy is, the skill will warn the user of the enemies location. This skill will level up the more fights the user goes through.]
...
"That's perfect!"
We are cooking now boys!
Now I can compensate for the difference in speed these evil fucks be having over me!
I just realized this when I was using the Kirei preset, but being able to react when I can't see shit is stupidly good. Kinda like a get out of jail card in case I fuck up in a fight, which is only bound to happen. I get that and also get extra survivability! Thank you gacha gods!Thank you Archer!
The screen broke into small particles and flew into my chest, almost immedietely I felt something prick my brain. It was very subtle, but I felt different. Can't exactly put it into words but somethings changed.
But enough about that, I need to pick my last skill.
"System you know the drill, show me the skill libary!"
[Using one Initiate skill ticket.]
[Opening the skill libary!]
The screen split apart, multipling into several hundred smaller screens as they flew around me.
I wanted a skill to help me live longer, something to keep me alive in a fight. I already have a abnormal amount of willpower to push through my injuries, so something like some regeneration would be good. Or at least keep me alive longer lmao. I lined up every skill in a single line before I started to swipe away at them.
"AHA! There we go."
25 minutes of swiping left was finally worth it.
[Vital Rebirth, Initiate level skill, lvl.1: This ability grants the user accelerated healing, allowing for rapid recovery from minor to moderate injuries, including broken bones, deep cuts, and bruises. At lvl.1, minor injuries heal within seconds, moderate injuries (like broken bones and deep cuts) heal within a few minutes, and severe injuries (life-threatening but not instantly fatal) heal within an hour. This skill will level up the more fights the user goes through.]
Hey,
It sure as hell ain't bad, and my ass ain't trying to swipe left any longer so I'll take it.
"I'll choose the Vital rebirth."
The screen broke into particles again, zooming into my chest. A warm sensation traveled throughout my body, almost like taking a dip in a hot tub. I could feel my cells n shit heating up before rapidly cooling down, leaving me feeling oddly refreshed.
I felt more confident. Sure, I still had a long way to go, but now I had some real tools to work with now.
[Congratulations on your new skills, you can now see your new skills in the skill section of your status!]
"This is good..."
I layed on the ground again. Felt oddly nice for some reason.
I didn't care if it didn't feel nice though, I was fucking tired. The fighting and the mental anguish I went through was just so draining, never want to deal with that again.
I could feel my eye's trying to close tight,
I guess it would be alright to catch some sleep. I deserve it anyways!
As I closed my eyes, a single thought came to my mind.
'Serria...'
Damnit just what was going on with me?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Serria hold on!"
I did my best to rip off the tape off of her mouth and cut the ropes bind her.
"August...you-you came!"
"Of course I did you idiot! What kind of Boyfriend would I be if I didn't try to save my girl?"
She had a strange look in her eyes as I said that, almost possesive?
Not important right now.
Adreneline pumped through my viens as I cut the last piece of rope binding her.
"We need to get out of here now, before those gang bastards catch up to us."
Why couldn't they just leave us alone....
We scrambled to our feet and bolted out of the warehouse. Everything around us seemed to be a lurking threat, every sound only made us more scared.
The gang had been terrorizing us for weeks, ever since I tried to help a friend who had crossed them. Serria had been caught in the crossfire, and I couldn't forgive myself for putting her in danger.
"August, they're not going to stop, are they?"
"No,"
"Not until they get what they want. But I won't let them hurt you again. I promise."
We reached a small park, panting and exhausted. I scanned the area, looking for a safe place to hide. Suddenly, a cold, mocking voice spoke right behind us.
"Well, well, well. Look what we have here. The lovebirds."
A tall, middle aged man walked out from the shadows, followed by ten other thugs right behind him.
'Fuck.'
They'd catch us if we ran, but if I bought enough time for Serria to escape then....
"Serria."
"August what do we do?"
"Serria I...I want you to know I love you."
"August what are you saying?"
I pushed her behind me as the thugs started to approach us.
"Serria, I'm sorry that I won't be able to stand by your side...I can't keep our promise."
"So please, just run Serria!"
"I'll hold them off. Just go!"
She was shocked at what I said and hesitated for a moment, tears started to stream down her face.
"No, August! I won't leave you!"
"Please, Serria...you have to. For both of us."
With a choked sob, she finally turned and started to run. I stared off in her direction before I squared my shoulders and faced the gang. The leader of the group only sneered at the sight.
"How noble,"
"But you're just delaying the inevitable."
No words came out of my mouth as I raised my hands up, ready to brawl. The leader looked at me amused, signaling to his goons to get ready.
"You think you can take us all on by yourself?"
I ignored his taunts, my mind was focused on the immediate danger. I needed to buy time and make sure Serria had enough of a head start. I glanced back in her direction; she was already disappearing into the distance, her sobs barely heard over the pounding of my heart.
"Just try me,"
The leader chuckled at me, clearly unimpressed.
"Get him,"
The first thug lunged at me, a knife glinting in his hand. I sidestepped and drove my fist into his ribs, the crack audible. He crumpled to the ground, and before the next guy could react, I swung my leg around, catching him in the temple with a roundhouse kick.
Two down. Eight to go.
My body was already screaming in protest, but I couldn't afford to slow down. Another thug swung a bat at my head. I ducked, but he clipped my shoulder, sending a shock of pain down my arm. I tackled him to the ground, landing a few punches before another thug kicked me in the ribs, knocking the wind out of me.
I got up and ran into his body, knocking him to the ground before wailing on him with strikes.
"JUST DIE AND LEAVE US ALONE!"
By the time I was done with him, his face couldn't even be called a face anymore and my hands arched.
Seeing how a teenager just brutally beat down one of their own, the other thugs hesitated, clearly reconsidering their approach. The leader's sneer turned into a frown.
"You're going to regret this kid."
"You'll have to get through me first,"
Two more thugs rushed me at once. I twisted out of the way of one's punch and grabbed the other's arm, using his momentum to flip him over my shoulder. The first thug managed to land a punch on my jaw, sending stars across my vision. I retaliated with a knee to his stomach, followed by a sharp uppercut.
He stumbled back, but I didn't have time to finish him off. Another thug tackled me to the ground, and we rolled in the dirt, trading blows. His fists pounded into my sides, but I fought back, driving my elbow into his face until he went limp.
Four down. Six to go.
Another one of them grabbed me by the collar and slammed me against a nearby tree. My head cracked against the bark, and I saw even more stars. He drew back his fist to strike, but I managed to bring my knee up into his groin. He doubled over, and I drove my elbow into the back of his neck, sending him sprawling to the ground.
I barely had time to breathe before another thug swung a metal pipe at my head. Pain exploded through my body, and I collapsed to my knees. He raised the pipe again, ready to finish me off, but I grabbed a handful of dirt and flung it into his eyes. He screamed, dropping the pipe, and I used the opportunity to headbutt him in the face, breaking his nose.
Five down. Five to go.
But that's as far as I go.
I almost collasped to the ground, barely keeping myself propped up with a knee. My body was starting to fail me, with every movement feeling like I was being stabbed all over again. Blood dripped from countless cuts, and my vision blurred with every passing second.
I could only watched as the leader walked straight to me, pointing a gun at my head.
"A damn 17 year old kid managed to beat down some of my best men huh,"
"You've got spirit, I'll give you that. But it's over."
I tried to stand, but my legs gave out. I fell to the ground, unable to move, unable to fight. The leader loomed over me, his gun aimed at my head.
"Any last words?"
"Fuck you."
"I'll try to remember that."
The leader's finger tightened on the trigger, but before he could fire, a flash of silver streaked through the air. The leader screamed as the knife embedded itself in his hand, causing him to drop the gun.
I looked behind him and saw Serria? A knife in one hand and a gun in the other.
Damn girl of mine…
"Get away from him!"
The thugs turned to face her, but she moved with a deadly precision. The gunshots rang out, and two of them fell before they even had a chance to react. The remaining three hesitated, clearly reconsidering their approach.
"Get her!"
One of the thugs lunged at her, but she sidestepped and drove the knife into his side, twisting it with brutal efficiency. He fell to the ground, screaming in agony. She pulled the knife out and turned to the next one, firing the gun point-blank into his chest. He crumpled, blood pooling around him.
The leader backed away, fear finally breaking through his arrogance.
"Stay back, you crazy bitch!"
But Serria was relentless. She approached him slowly, her expression cold and detached. He raised his uninjured hand in a futile attempt to protect himself, but she shot him in the kneecap, forcing him to the ground. His screams filled the air as she stood over him, the gun trained on his head.
"This is for August,"
I have never heard her voice so devoid of emotion.
The leader's body fell limp, and the park fell silent. Serria dropped the gun, her hands shaking as she turned back to me. I was slumped against the tree, my vision fading in and out.
"Serria…"
I could barely look up at her as she rushed to my side, tears streaming down her face.
"August, hold on! You're going to be okay!"
It's just to late for me.
"I'm sorry...I couldn't..."
"Don't talk like that, I'll get help and you'll be ok!"
She looked so beautiful even with all that desperatation in her eyes. My vision blurred, and the world around me grew dim.
"I…lov….."
….
"August? AUGUST!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!"
Damnit,
I can't…I can't…
