Running out of Buckets

Liu Xiaolan looked towards the backs of the little girl and her servant and smiled a little. Although she couldn't tell the identity of the child, she could still notice that the clothes she was wearing belonged to the kind that one couldn't just buy even if they had money…

Perhaps one day that little girl would bring her a nice surprise.

Once people saw that someone bought Liu Xiaolan's chestnuts and the person looked satisfied, soon more people followed in their steps.

To be honest, the price of 100 copper coins for such a small bucket is both big and small. If one takes into consideration materials used, then the price is just a little high, but compared to the normal cost of chestnuts, Liu Xiaolan is making a good profit.

And while a lot of people, that were initially interested in buying chestnuts from Liu Xiaolan and Mu Yuchen, decided to look for other stalls selling them after knowing the price, Liu Xiaolan with her little fool's help still managed to sell 21 buckets of chestnuts on her first day in the business.

Thinking of this, Liu Xiaolan's eyes were shining. Just today after taking away the cost, she's made a profit of over a whole silver coin. It might sound like nothing compared to how fast she was earning money while selling mushrooms, but there's something important that one needs to remember.

Mushrooms are pricey because there's a lack of them on the market. And while it's partially because most people don't know which ones are edible, it's also because in the ancient times the only source for mushrooms was the wild forest.

Liu Xiaolan has already picked up all the edible mushrooms in the so called safe zone on their mountains. If she was to go deeper inside, it's very likely she would be attacked by the wild life occupying the forest.

But with chestnuts, it's a completely different story. It might take more time and bring less income, but at least for some time it should be a stable way to earn money.

"Little fool, you've helped me a lot in the last couple of days…" Liu Xiaolan said with a smile, before walking towards him and hugging him for a moment.

Thinking of it, Mu Yuchen is truly her lucky star. Not only did he help her with the things she needed to do in the last couple of days, but during his free time he would constantly run to forests nearby their village in search of chestnuts trees.

When Liu Xiaolan thought about how much chestnuts he brought back to their home and buried underground, she was a little shocked. She might not know the exact number, but there should be enough for at least 1000 small buckets of chestnuts.

This number of chestnuts alone could bring them over 50 silver coins in profit once they manage to sell all of them. In ancient times, for a peasant family that's a number that the whole family probably couldn't collect in their whole lives.

And it's not like they can't continue to pick up more chestnuts, isn't it?

Now that Liu Xiaolan thought about it, even if they picked out all the chestnuts, she might as well buy them from wholesalers. Although her profit margin might go down, but they would still make a lot of money.

Meanwhile, Mu Yuchen had no idea about what she was thinking. All he could focus on now was the fact that his lady was kept in his arms, hugging him freely.

After a moment, Liu Xiaolan's mind stopped dreaming about their future. She slightly blushed and looked around to see if anybody noticed her behaviour. "Little fool, let's stop selling for today. We still need to go back and prepare for tomorrow…"

When they were pushing their stall back inside Liujia's Wood Workshop, Liu Xiaolan suddenly got a little worried.

She wasn't sure if the business would be fine, so she was a little scared to order big amounts of tools before. But now, she only has 29 small buckets left.

Today was just their first day selling and they've already sold almost half of the buckets she ordered before. Wouldn't she run out of her packaging as early as tomorrow?

Thinking of this, Liu Xiaolan went towards the shops lobby.

"Uncle Liu, how's today's business going?"

Liu Jiahao had a smile on his face. Although Liu Xiaolan didn't sell much today, it still brought him a few clients. "It's not bad, thank you girl."

Liu Xiaolan smiled towards him and asked with a worried voice, "Uncle Liu, how fast can you make more small buckets for me? I need another 500 of them!"

Yep, this time she won't hesitate anymore. Anyway, even if she can't sell chestnuts anymore, she can still find another use for these buckets. No point in ordering small amounts of them each time.

Shopkeeper Liu was clearly a little shocked. He knew that Liu Xiaolan's chestnuts were selling pretty well if you think about the fact that it's their first day here, but still… An order of 500 small buckets at once?

That's a cost of 22 silver coins and 500 copper coins!

There's no way that Liu Xiaolan could earn that amount of money just by selling chestnuts today. Just where did this little girl get so much money?

"Girl Liu, are you sure you want 500 of them?" Even through he tried to be calm, Liu Jiahao was still a little excited. After all, a small order like the previous 50 buckets might not make much of an impression on him, but when it comes to such a big number, that's a good amount of income even for his shop.

"Yes, I need 500 quickly. How fast can you make them?" Liu Xiaolan asked about the key point that she was most worried about.

After all, what's the point in buying so much buckets if she would need to wait for them a long amount of time. Wouldn't other people learn to copy her and occupy her market in the time she waited for her new packaging?
