“Just tell me…do you know where he is?”
“In the infirmary.” Levin picked up a piece of bread out of the bin. “That’s all I know. Look, Arthur, the man with the dark mark on his face, well, he was in the infirmary last night, stripping beds for Fisher, and he saw Dubois there.”
“Is he all right? Tell me he’s all right.”
“Yeah, he’s fine. He was just lying there reading.” Levin leaned into Joe’s ear. “He’s a smart kid, you should know that by now.”
Novak squeezed Joe’s shoulder, walking by with his plate. “The infirmary is the safest place to be.”
Joe realized he’d been a fool again. Dubois had faked his fall. That little cunning brat.
