Chapter 49: Her Big Damn Hero

Sunshine's pulse roared like a runaway train as she burst into the underground chamber.

The owner spared no expense: the torture devices had been refurbished with high-quality Norwegian wood, polished mirror-like steel, and shiny new leather straps.

But what caught Sunshine's attention were the three terrified people locked in one of the cages. Two men and a woman. At the sight of her, they clutched the bars and cried for help.

"Don't worry," Sunshine told them. "I'm going to get you out of here."

Fumbling in her pockets, she raced to the cell. She pulled out the key she'd found upstairs.

The hostages reached through the bars and touched her arms with trembling hands as she fought with the locking mechanism.

“Get away from them!” The Harvester stood at the other end of the chamber. He grabbed a butcher knife from the wall and talked toward the cages. “You can’t have them! They’re mine!”

The hostages shrank back.
