The "Incident"

I paused.

Lexi was here? Why?

I straightened my school uniform skirt and slipped on my brown loafers and started down the stairs.

Mom smiled brightly. Her dimples showing. "Mom I'm going now," I said and opened the front door.

"Have a good day sweetie!" Mom yelled as I closed the door behind me.

I didn't look at Lexi as we walked down the street. I couldn't.

The last time we spoke with tears in her eyes Lexi said she hated all the secrets between us.

I didn't say nothing then either...

I couldn't. I couldn't look her in the eye.

I could tell how hurt she was by the way she spoke.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Tell me something," Lexi had said.

She walked over to me.

"Do you even care about our friendship?"

"Yes." I turned and walked away.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

We walked in silence.

"Isn't it beautiful today out?" Lexi finally spoke.

"Yes," I replied. "Tell me, why did you come to my house?" I finally managed to say.

Silence sliced the air.

I could hear our shoes tapping on the street as we walked.

She stopped walking and turned to look at me.

She had a smile on her face.

"Via, I don't like the secrets your keeping from me but.. your my bestfriend." She made eye contact with me.

Her smile faded.

"I care about you too much to walk away from you-"

What Lexi was going to say interrupted by a crackle of thunder.

"What the hell! Where did that come from?!" Lexi said shaken up.

"I don't know, the sky is clear it shouldn't be thundering." I said.

Lightning struck the sky next. Lexi yelped.

"We should hurry to school," I said. I was shaken up now.

We decided to run to school to get there faster.

The cool air rushed past me as I ran. Lexi right next to me.

Then it happened...

IT happened...

Everything began to turn dark. I felt myself falling towards the ground.

My vision blurred. I couldn't move.

"VIA!" I heard Lexi scream.

"VIA!" She screamed again.

Then everything went completely black.
