30 Chapter 30

There is a massive set of stairs leading up to the UA building. Going up those stairs is a flood of people. I thought of maybe keeping a lookout for recognizable faces but it's taking a lot of concentration to not focus on all of these people's quirks. The herd of people moves through the UA campus and to the auditorium. A large multi-story room with long desktops extending in rows. I find a seat and prepare mentally for the test. Once the room is almost completely full they close the door and begin handing out the tests. Math, Science, Japanese, and English are real easy. The social studies portion is harder. It consists of over 200 years of new history plus the old history of a foreign country. I read a lot about history to study plus my assimilated memories let me do pretty well. I finished my test early so I had to wait until they collected all the tests. There was a short intermission, but we weren't allowed to leave the auditorium. We were all patiently waiting when I hear

"WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO MY LIVE SHOW! EVERYBODY SAY HEY!"

"HEY!" I scream back. A crazy blonde dude in a biker outfit otherwise known as Present Mic was now giving out instructions. Everyone else is a stick in the mud there is a professional DJ/Hypeman and the entire testing body is good just staying silent. Stewing in their nervous energy.

"RIGHT ON EXAMINEE 3679!" Huh didn't notice that.

"I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU THE LOW-DOWN ON HOW THIS WILL GO DOWN ARE YOU READY?!"

"YEAH!" Just me again. People are looking at me. But I'm just riding this hype train.

Present Mic explains how we'll be tested in a ten-minute simulation of city combat. We will be split up into different groups and brought to replica cities. There will be three different types of robots worth 1,2, and 3 points. We also won't be able to attack any other participants. While he's explaining a guy on the lower level of the auditorium interjects.

"Excuse me may I ask a question?! On the hand out there are clearly 4 types of villains listed. Such an error would be the hight of embarrassment for a top national academy of UA's caliber. The reason we are seated here today is because we seek guidance on the path to becoming model heroes. Moreover, what's with you? Yea, you curly-haired kid. Can't you sit still you're distracting? If you think UA is some kind of pleasure jaunt then leave this place at once!" Man Ilda is intense he just monologed in front of a crowd of near 10,000 people I wonder if he realizes that. Midoriya the curly-haired kid mumbles an apology. Then Present Mic continues his explanation that the fourth type is an obstacle and we will get no points for defeating them. He then ends his explanation like so.

"NOW LET'S MOVE ON TO THE MAIN EVENT!! PLUS ULTRA!!! AND MAY YOU SUFFER GLADLY THE TRIALS TO COME!"

From there we split up to a bunch of different replica cities I don't know how many there are but there has to be at least 5 as I was assigned to City E. A quick look around and I don't recognize anyone. Oh, wait that guy over there is Koji the kid who controls animals. Bad luck, buddy. I was hoping to kick out the tail guy. Or Mineta because of his personality, but based on potential I think sticky balls is better than tail. As the rest of the participants stand around I move closer to the door waiting for them to open. Because there is no warning before the doors opening just Present Mic announcing that we have started. I'm ready for the surprise opening though and as soon I see the doors begin to open I start running.

I do a quick focused check to see if my heat vision is useful and it totally is. The different robots have engines that give off heat signatures and they all have different heat signatures. The 1 pointers have a medium-sized signature, the 2 pointers have little heat signature and the three-pointer have a large heat signature. I priorities the large heat signatures while plotting a course to intercept as many robots as possible. Present Mic had described all of these robots as Mario enemies and it seems really appropriate now. On their back is an on-off switch, so I've quickly found the quickest way for me to disable them is to jump over them a kickback hitting the switch. I'm already at 6 points before I hear my fellow participants running in behind me. But I started with a lead and I don't plan on losing it.

The next couple of minutes is a non-stop robot slaughter as I continue to refine my technique. I thought jumping would be the most efficient but it involves a lot of lost momentum so instead of jumping over them I've been reading their movements and at the last second jumping behind them and hitting the off button with my hand. The jumps are smaller and mostly in the same direction so they're more like extended strides. I lost track somewhere over 60 points. Eventually, they release the fourth type a giant robot taller than the skyscrapers of this fake city. I was going to leave it alone because there was no one in immediate danger, but this robot was destroying everything its path. It's probably not worth any points, but I don't want it to destroy the city, that will be rebuilt with tax dollars. I also don't want Midoriya to be the only one to take out the Big'in.

My first thought was to lure it into water from a fire hydrant and then electrocute it with a power line, but I've seen it already tear through power lines and I don't think they're active right now. So instead decide to go with another classic. I slowly approach waiting for it to throw another punch. Relying on my danger sense I jump seconds before the punch would impact. I tuck my legs staying in air longer before landing on its fist. I grab ahold and start climbing. It tries to shake me off once I get close to its shoulder, but I jump to its head. I then move my way to its face as it tries to swing at me again. It fist was coming in hot about to hit me and itself. At the last moment, I let go sliding down the front. I grab a crease slowing my descent and then jump and roll to safety. Behind me, the giant robot collapsed having broken itself with a punch to the face. The test ends and medical personnel flood the city. I need no attention so I'm allowed to leave. I walk out surrounded by the stunned silence and faces of my fellow participants. I'm not really tired, but it has been a long day so I head back to my apartment.
