Life of the Outcasted

Ryan's life isn't what you'd call "luxurious", that word isn't even part of his dicctionary. In a world full of magic, dungeons and monsters, where rules of physics take no place, Ryan is the only one that, for an unknown reason, has no magic at all. For him, life is unfair and cruel. He has always been the one to suffer most and he wants it all to end. The thing is, he doesn't know that his life is about to take a drastic change that he would have never expected in his short years of life.

A Night Stroll Became my Death Sentence

Since my house had been burnt down because of the fire, I had no choice but to spend the night in Jerry's house. I am thankful that he let me stay at least for one night, although he really doesn't have a reason to let me, now that I think about it, so it suprised me even more when he did.

I was walking ahead of him as we paced through the stalls of the main plaza. The stalls sold old stones, junk and some even had food, like old meat or half rotten fish. Amazing items on desplay.

I was still sad for my parents' death, however, I'm a lot better now that some times has passed. I know that they are somwhere watching me as I continue in life, they won't leave me alone.

"Come on, Ryan, follow me, we are getting closer" - Jerry told me as he took the lead and went a bit faster.

"Right behind you" - I said as I followed him as he told me to

After walking for about 10 minutes, we finally reached Jerry's house.

His house was in another avenue a bit further down the city than mine, so when we passed my old, burnt house, I felt something in my heart, but I ignored it and didn't even look at it.

Everything was gone, I suppose the only thing left was to demolish it all, take the remains, and build something new on that spot, which would be mine.

But I couldn't do all that, so I was left with nothing but my current clothes and the destroyed little house I once lived with my parents in.

After that, we continued down the street in a straight line.

"Here we are" - Jerry announced as we finally arrived at our destination.

"Yes, I remember this house, I've been here before" - I remembered. I've seen my father and Jerry many times together, so I sometimes come here to make a visit, but not usually.

"Let's go in, I'll make lunch" - He said as he opened the door.

I've actually never really entered Jerry's house before, I've only seen it from the outside or when the door was left open.

The house was really old, which is to be expected. What suprised me most was how short it was, about 2 meters in hight, but that was it.

I've never had good friends to play with, because many of them have already awakened and left me out of their groups. For that reason, I have never gone inside any other person's house, people in this town are really cold and grumpy.

The inside structure was simple, everything was cramped, almost no decoration nor furniture, pretty much like mine.

"Go sit in the sofa while I prepare the stew with some bread" - He told me as he went to prepare lunch.

"Yes, thanks a lot for letting me stay - I replied, although I'm still a bit suprised he let me spend the night here, I'm really thankful for that.

"No problem" - He answered

I sat on the sofa while I waited for him to prepare the food. The sofa was old and used, but I'm used to that, I had one similar to this one at home.

After 10 minutes, the food was ready, so I sat at the table with Jerry and sarted eating.

The food was alright, some soup with pieces of carrot and potato and bread to acompany it. I was used to eating simple food like this.

"How's the food?" - Jerry asked

"It's really good, thanks" - I replied

. . . .

"Hey, Jerry"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for letting me spend the night at your house, I promise to go when the day has passed" - I told him

"Yeah, it's no problem" - He replied

Jerry's POV

"Yeah, it's no problem" - I have to act calm, continue to do as if everything were alright

This kid doesn't know what's coming for him, after all his father has done to me. He probably thinks that man, Harry, and I were friends from a long time ago, no, never, I'd never be friends with that man.

And now that he's gone, I will let all my rage out against his son

I have nothing against the mother, it's a shame she died in the fire, but I still don't really care.

But now, I have to act calm, and when he least expects it, attack him from behind. Then, I will take all the money inherited to him and start the shop I've always wanted, to replace his ugly and now destroyed house.

Ryan's POV

After eating everything I excused myself and went for a stroll in town.

I didn't really have anything to do at the moment, so I looked for some of the kids in town to play with.

I found them playing near the plaza, they were together. It seemed they were using the little magic they had to make smalls rock or tiny waterjets as they run around playing heroes and villains or something like that.

"Hey guys, what are you doing, can I join in?" - I asked them

"Ryan, hello, what are you doing here? You know you can't play with us if you have no magic" - that was Drew, kind of the leader of our group, he uses earth magic. He's 8 and a half years old.

"I really can't?" - I was really sad that they still did not accept me

"No, and I heard your house was set on fire and your parents died, right? You really think you can play with us when being an orphan? Keep dreaming"

"Yeah, don't come and play with us as if you were a normal kid" - said other boys, part of the group.

"Well, I hope to never see you again" - I said as I started crying. I decided to run away, because they were all against me.

After that, I strolled through town for sometime, the streets were especially empty today, so when it became dark, I headed for Jerry's house.

When I got there, I knocked on the door, but no one answered

"Hello?? Jerry??" - I shouted a bit louder

No one seemed to be inside. He must be out doing something, I thought.

I had nowhere to go and the street was completely empty, so I sat next to the door and waited for him to come.

When suddenly, something happened

"I HAVE YOU NOW" - someone shouted from on top of me

I was suprised at first, but then, I was even more when I realised that somebody had thrown a net over me. I was trapped, so I couldn't move from where I was.

I looked to where the sound had come from and I was shocked

There was Jerry, on top of his house, I could see him clearly, the moonlight was shining over him. But I couldn't believe what I was looking at.

"W-what?" - I confusedly asked. What was he doing?

"You are probably wondering right now why I'm doing this, but let me tell you, I am going to kill you right now" - he said as he flashed the pointy dagger he had in hand.

Oh dear god, this can't be good.
