The Beginning

David: 'I am so freaking tired dude, this exam was brutal.'

He had just gotten out of a test for one of his college classes, chemistry. It wasn't something he was looking forward to, but now it was over and he felt like he passed with flying colors. He still had his other classes like mathematics and science, but those were later on this week thankfully so he was going to cram study the next couple days.

He was just tired and wanting to go home, so he just walked to his car before he turned it on and drove back to his apartment. Being a full time student and full time worker takes a load out on him and by the end of the day he only has enough strength to really only relax and read or watch something before he passes out for the day.

As he was walking in, he started dropping his bags by the door and closing it before he starts walking to his bedroom. As he does, he looks at the pictures on the wall. They were pictures of his family and him. But just a little bit ago something happened back home and he can't remember anything other that it didn't end well.

David always tried his best to be a good son, and to be a good older brother, but sometimes things just don't work out, and he found that out first hand. Although he doesn't remember much of what happened that night, all he remembers is going over to his parents place for a family dinner and just to enjoy himself. His sister had brought her boyfriend over that was a jerk to him, and no matter what he said or did, it wasn't enough for his sister to just stop dating the dude, and his parents and siblings always took the boyfriends side.

Finally having enough of it after that night with the boyfriend, he doesn't remember what he said or did, but when he came to after a black out of anger he just found that his family was just wanting him out of the house. He doesn't remember much of that discussion either. He finally just left and since then he hasn't talked to them, or seen them really. He would send texts and try to call, but it wouldn't go through for some reason. They live in the small town over, and his sister lives in the same one he does but their schedules were never on the same page. But it's been almost a month since then, they couldn't have been that angry with him. Right?

David: 'Ya know what, I'm just going to go over and see what's going on.'

So he got his shoes back on and got to his car and drove back to his parents home. He saw all the cars out and his sister's there too, so they were all together. He got out and walked up to the door and started getting nervous for some reason, and instead of walking in like he normally does, he knocked. It took a little bit, but finally the door opened, and it was his Mom.

Mom: "Hello, who is...." When she saw who it was, she instantly went quiet and just looked at him like he killed someone. This made David instantly on edge.

David: "Hi Mom, uh, I came to see what was going on, no one has been talking to me for a while and I was wondering what was going on."

His Mom just looked at him like he just grew a second head.

Mom: "What. When we said we didn't want you around anymore, you thought it was a joke?"

That stopped David in his tracks.

David: "What, why. Is it that thing that happened with the boyfriend. I don't remember anything that happened that night, all I remember is getting angry and at the end I left. That's all I remember. Why did it end with you guys saying y'all don't want me around anymore?"

Mom: "Maybe you should have thought of that before you flew off the handle. What you said broke your sister and her boyfriend apart, and she hasn't been able to focus since then on her job, and she almost got fired just last week because of what you said to him, and you also went off on her about why she would stay with with him."

David just looks at his Mom like she was crazy.

David: "So you just purposefully ignore everything that dick has said to me still, just because he acted all buddy buddy with you guys? What about me, you are just going to ignore my feelings? If that prick married into this family, I would also be family with that guy and have to be around him. You're just going to ignore that?"

His mother just stayed silent, and just told him straight to his face.

Mom: "Just get out of here. No one wants to be around someone who will only think of themselves, even more now since you only came over and started to argue with me about this."

David couldn't believe what he was hearing. Having it come from his mother's mouth. After everything he has done and tried to do for the family, make them proud of him and everything he has done on his own without any help.

David: "Fine, if you want to just be this way, then I'm leaving. Since the only thing you care about is if the others are happy, then you wouldn't mind if I disappeared apparently. Bye, hope that you guys have a wonderful life without me."

And as he said that he walked to his car. His mother in shock really, and his family hearing them from inside also couldn't believe what they heard, and hearing the engine start and speed off into the distance, they just run to the door in time to see the tail lights vanish into the distance. At that moment they all start bombarding him with how terrible he was to say that to her and more. But David couldn't care less at that moment, just having his headphones on and his phone on Do Not Disturb. He just started playing any music he could to calm down, without success.

He was listening and tears in his eyes, he couldn't really see the road well.

He was about halfway between towns and it started getting worse with his feelings. He felt like he was just shattering. The things he loved most were his family, and they just threw him away basically and it's just breaking his soul. He started swerving from not being able to see and shaking from just the shock of what happened.

Then all of a sudden the car was hit from the side, there wasn't any crossroads or anything, but for some reason a truck had come from the fields next to the road like a dune buggy and made a bee line for the car.

David didn't have time to react, not being able to see or hear anything other than the music. So he was sent to a white space where there was only him and a Man in White standing there just watching David break down. The Man just let David cry, and after a little bit just walked over to David and just held him in a hug while David tightly hugged the man back. David finally was able to calm down after a few hours of him crying, but by then the light in his eyes had died off and his soul, even though David couldn't see it, the Man in White could, and it was being broken as he looked at David, so the Man knew he didn't have long before David vanished.

The Man: "David, I know it's hard right now, but I need you to look at me."

David responded by just looking at him, and recognizing him as the one who stayed with him, even though he didn't know the Man, instinctively knew that He was a good person.

God: "Let me introduce myself, I am the God of this Universe, and I have seen what had happened to you. I am sorry, but right now, there are more important things that need to be done. You don't have much time left here in this Universe, and if you stay you will truly die."

David: "So, not like anyone's gonna miss me."

God just looked at him with a sad face. 'He really loved that family of his, and for some reason they just threw him away like that. Well, I don't like seeing souls perish this way, I've had enough of this world doing this to pure people like this one.'

God: "Well, regardless I'm wanting to help you. Even though this may not be what you wanted originally, I'm going to send you somewhere where you are going to be appreciated. And truly have people who won't betray you like your family did."

David looked at God with a little bit of light coming back into his eyes when he said that. God seeing this was pleased that he got David a little bit out of it, and started explaining what was going to happen.

God: "I'm going to give you some gifts so that when you go to the next Universe, you'll have a much better time. And I already talked with the one over there, He'll take care of you. So you don't have to worry about not having someone by your side. He'll be a part of your new family."

And with that, it was sealed. David heard the words he needed to hear the most.
