Life as a Dragon (BL)

Liam had always lived a hard and boring life. Going through the same thing again and again. Forcing himself to keep living for the sake of a promise made years ago. He had thought he was going to live and die like this... When something unusual happened in his life, freeing him. ------------------- "Welcome, host. I know you must be scared but there's nothing to worry about. I won't harm you as long as you fulfill what's asked of you..." Liam looked with his eyes full of disbelief towards the weird glass ball, hovering in the air and ranting. "Wait are you one of those systems? The ones in books." The glass ball, yes he was going to call it that for the time being, looked at him (atleast that's what he felt, it didn't exactly have eyes) than patiently replied. "Yes, you may call me Demyx. " ---------------------- That was the start of his life new life. He had to face lots of hardships with his dark past haunting him. But he was happy... MC is the top. --------------------

Chapter 12 The Explanation

After spending nearly a day in the Library, they were dragged out by his Grandfather. Juno and Michail were still fine but Liam who was reading about a new world was really unwilling. He half wanted to just start living in the library. His Grandfather seeing how obsessed he was, thought that Liam just really liked books and showed him the library at their place. Liam wanted to ask if there was a Library at their house why did they even go to the other one? But he decided not to ask since he would not be able to understand his grandfather's logic anyways.

They lived in a four bedrooms house in the City. According to Maddox, this was where everyone from their family lived when visiting the City. Lucien and Ethan didn't like leaving the Clan often because of Liam so, it was mostly Maddox who stayed here. The library belonged to him, when he was young he had this habit of collecting books from all the continents he visited and putting them in his Library. Atleast that's what he said, Liam had a hard time believing that his grandfather was ever patient enough to read not to mention when he was young.

Regardless of how the Library was made, Liam was really excited after seeing it. It was filled with unique books and all that Liam needed. Books on the plants and animals here, the mythical creatures that exist in the world, places that were filled with magical treasures and all that. Unlike in his previous world, everything in this world was made of magic even the plants and animals. Of course there were normal animals too. And the normal ones were the most common and there were a lot of them. People made teams and went to unexplored places to hunt magical creatures and look for treasures. It wasn't easy but Liam really wanted to try it, after reading about the protagonist going around and finding treasures any normal person would want the same. There were all sorts of rare plants that had all sorts of benefits. Even eating animals had different benefits, like if someone with the fire element eats an animal with the same element, it was really beneficial and increased levels depending on how good the treasure was.

Liam was busy burying his head in the books, trying to remember all the plants and animals and their benefits. His Grandfather sighed saying he never thought his own grandson will be a nerd, but Liam ignored him like always. Michail was sleeping here because his Dad had some emergency. He was wearing Liam's sleepwear, and looking at him reading curiously as he ate a carrot flavored donut. Like his shift, Michael preferred to eat vegetables and fruits. Although he could eat meat, it just wasn't as appetizing to him. Like most werewolves preferred eating meat.

Juno picked up a book from the shelf, Liam moved sideways on the armchair and she sat down beside him. Liam grinned at her while she rolled her eyes with a tiny smile on her lips. They were both really small so they had no trouble fitting in a chair made for his Grandpa.

Liam yawned as he walked towards the bathroom while scratching his face. He had just waken up, since they were all reading so much last night, they had fallen asleep in the library. Even his Grandpa!

They had to get ready, eat then go to the arena. Lucien would kill them if they were late. Liam had shook Juno and Michail and jumped on his Grandfather. Everyone was awake now. He brushed his teeth while thinking about the match today. He wondered who they will be paired with today. Juno appeared behind him, picked up her brush and started brushing her teeth as well. She grinned evilly in the mirror seeing him daydreaming and then splashed water on his face. Liam looked at her confused as she cackled with laughed. Michail appeared from behind and splashed water at her from behind, and Liam from front but she dodged them both and they ended up splashing water at each other. Liam yelled and ran behind her with a cup of water, Michail behind him.

After a long and confusing fight where everyone ended up wet even his Grandpa and Demyx, they were pushed inside separate washrooms and told to wash up. When Liam walked into the kitchen, his Grandfather was cooking pancakes.

"Hello~~ Need help?"

"Just put the dishes on the table." His Grandfather flicked his forehead and pointed to the cupboard. He helped out as Juno and Michail finished washing as well. They then ate breakfast while talking about how they were gonna fight with Maddox chiming in here and there. Although he wasn't their instructor, his advise was really good. Especially for Liam since they were the same race.

After eating, seeing that there was still time Liam asked his Grandfather about the magic levels. He had read about it but it was still a bit confusing. His Grandfather explained that magic levels referred to the magic storage and recovering ability. The higher the realm the more magic qi a person could store and the more magic they could use. Liam nodded, he understood that much.

The method to increase magic realm was by meditation. Fighting also increased levels but it was really slow. Usually both things went hand in hand, meditation increased the levels and fighting stabilized the realms while also helping with breakthroughs. Unlike other races Dragons started meditation late because they needed to stabilize the realms they were born with so, that was why Liam hadn't started yet. Michail and Juno had yet to start because they were living with criminals before and they didn't teach the people they kidnapped how to get stronger. People started meditating at age 5 because that's when they could control the magic qi around them and absorb it which was basically what meditation was.

Thankfully for Michail and Juno, they were really talented and weren't behind even though they were a year late. But they couldn't keep increasing their realms by fighting as the higher realms were harder to break through. Meditating was necessary to be able to break through them easily, otherwise it might take them years.

Everyone absorbed magic qi of the attributes they have affinity with so they needed cultivation techniques suited for them. But until they turned 11 people could just use a basic technique because before finding out there element affinity people just absorbed attributeless qi. Superior races had another advantage they usually were born with an inheritance meaning they had a cultivation technique perfectly suited for them. If they cultivated according to that, their cultivation would be stronger then others especially when they were younger then 11 since nearly everyone else would be using a common technique and the earlier a person cultivated, the stronger it made them. Even between superior races the cultivation technique they got in inheritance depended on bloodline purity, people with extremely pure bloodline would have a stronger cultivation technique.

Unfortunately, Michail was a shifter and they didn't have an inheritance. Juno told them that she did have inheritance. She was really lucky because succubus cultivation methods were really hard to find, even if you found one it might not have the same element as you did. You could cultivate with it before 11 but it loses effect after that. It made you stronger than normal people but weaker than even the least talented person who had a good cultivation technique. Michael said his dad was looking for a cultivation method for him.

Anyways, since everyone could only absorb magic qi of their own elements, that's why element affinity was important. You couldn't use spells or skills of elements you didn't have affinity with. Meditating slowly increased the magic qi that could be stored inside you. When the increase reached a certain limit, they would need to break through in order to increase further. Fighting made you more used to using your magic qi, it increased how quickly you could restore your qi. If someone fought until they had exhausted the qi inside them and could not use their magic anymore, the next time their magic was exhausted it would recover faster. Exhausting your magic qi helped with break throughs. This was slow and painful so most people just meditated which meant that while they reached a higher level their realms were unstable.

In Michail and Juno's case they had increased two realms by simply fighting, it was a really slow process. But because they had lived a dangerous life, they had to fight nearly everyday so, although fighting increased levels slower then meditating the fact that they had managed to reach this realm meant that they fought a lot.

Liam was a little confused so he decided to just ask; "If people can only use spells they have affinity with, why can I use fog already? Doesn't that show I have affinity for fog?"

"Good question! Basically, It's a racial thing, fog is our race's speciality you don't need affinity to use that. Nearly all Cloud Dragons can use it. While your floating power is a bloodline skill, from your golden eyes it can be seen that you have pure bloodline. I told you before that Cloud Dragons can float but actually it's a rather rare skill to have. Usually our people learn it when they reach the realm necessary. The fact that you can do this effortlessly and use such a little amount of magic over it just shows your blood is really pure."

"Of course the person who has the fog element will be able to control it better then you can ever. I do suspect that you have affinity to the fog element because of the poison fog skill you created. If you really have affinity to fog then you'll be able to make it more powerful."

"Other then these racial skills, if you try to use others then you won't be able to yet. I believe that Michail and Juno have a racial skill as well. I can see that their bloodline is pure especially Michail's. This is why, people eat all sorts of things to make their blood pure. Who wouldn't want some powerful and effortless skills?" Michail's eyes lit up after hearing his Grandfather while the next thing that Maddox said nearly made Liam spray out what he was drinking.

"That reminds me I have explained this to you before. You really don't remember a single thing I told you do you. *sigh*"

This is why Liam hadn't wanted to talk to his grandfather about this. Although he had the original Liam's memories, they were not his own after all he had a lot of things he just ignored and he didn't want to reveal that. Thankfully his Grandfather just thought that he wasn't listening before.

Regardless of all that, Liam was really glad that he talked with Maddox about all this, reading books was good but if you had someone you could ask about something you didn't understand it would be better.
