Chapter 7

Many have asked just how I met Bri. I met Bri the summer I turned fifteen and at that time Bri was at the young age of twelve. Bri had just lost her brother and had no other family, and so she had thought to end it all. At that time in life I had just found out I was gay, and my mother had died the year before that. Though my mother's words would always stick with me.

(Flash Back)

"Rudy" my mother called.

"Yes mama" I said.

"Rudy my child, come here for a moment" she said.

I sat down at the foot of my mother's bed. She grabbed my hand, and what she said next would stick with me til the day I died.

"Rudy mama is sorry for leaving you at such a young age" she said.

"It'll be ok mama, I know you'll get better" I told her.

"No Rudy I won't, so you must listen to what I say." she said.

"Ok, I'll listen." I said.

"Rudy when you grow older you'll find someone you love, and I want you to know that no matter what happens when that time comes I'll always love and support you even if I'm not here." she said.

"Even if it's someone dad wouldn't approve of?" I asked.

"Especially if it's someone your dad doesn't approve of, because your happiness is the only thing that matters to me." she said.

"Mama I'm gonna miss you when your gone." I said.

"Mama knows that already, and remember Rudy loving someone is a gift from the heavens and so you must always cherish that person. God puts special people in our lives for a reason, we just don't know the reason why yet."

Two weeks after my mother and I talked, she passed away. I'll never forget the day she died it Monday, July 29th 2013. When I found Bri suffering, rather then running away like always I wanted to help her, and so I did. You know the one thing I hate about Bri being mute is, you never hear her cry. That's exactly what happened the day I met Bri. She was crying on the sidewalk and what happened next was I hit her with my walking stick. I know it must have hurt because you heard and big crack. I apologized for hitting her, but she didn't answer so I thought she must be mad. Thus I asked her why she didn't answer, a minute later came an audio voice.

"I'm sorry, I didn't answer because I can't talk" she typed.

"You can't talk, seriously?" I asked.

"I am a mute, so I really can't talk" she typed.

"Then how are you talking now?" I asked.

"I am using an app on my phone. Whatever I type it says" she typed.

"I see, so why were you on the ground?" I asked.

"I have nothing to live for and that makes me sad, I thought it would be easier to end it." she typed.

"Nothing at all?" I asked.

"Nothing, my parents and brother are gone and I have no other family or friends" she typed.

"Well if you have nothing else to live for, why not live for me?" I asked

"Live for you, how so? she typed.

"Be my eyes and I'll be your voice" I told her.

"You'll be my voice?" she typed.

"Only if you'll agree" I said.

"Ok we have a deal" she typed.

What neither of us knew was that as time passed we'd slowly become friends. We'd stay by each other's sides in both good and bad. Most must have thought we were a couple, but while Bri was special to me, I did not love her that way. Even now, though I have moved out I often visited Bri for she means the world to me because like I've said before she is both my heart and eyes. When I first started dating not many of my dates understood what Bri ment to my. I was gald when I met Evan, because like me he also had someone like Bri. To me Bri was like a little sister and Evan knew that. Evan also had someone like Bri and her name was Shana Smitherman, she was his step-sister. Anyway that's a story for another day.
