Zawadi turned to face her father, a devilish smirk on her face. She wasn't even scared she had been found out. But then he hadn't found her out yet. She kept on her calm facade and spoke.
" Can't I come to see my father? " She asked.
"You can't, because you have never" he said sitting on his chair.
"Well, there's always a first time for everything " she said sweetly, looking him straight in the eye.
But she knew that deep down she still wished she had come just to visit. As a daughter would her father, just to see how he was. And that he would be happy to see her. He would welcome her and they would catch up.
But still the reality was different. The reality that she loved him while he despised her. They she longed for a father while for him he no longer had a daughter.
She wasn't one to pretend, after all pretending was for children and she was no longer a child. She was still on the road to accepting that it was the man before her and his wife who had hurt her. Who had taken away her chance of becoming a mother.
And what mother would forget that?
"You have hurt me more than anyone else in my life. You and your wife " She told him.
"Don't you dare try to play the victim here. You have nearly destroyed my political career. Everyone now judges me from my daughter's actions " he said, rising his voice a little.
"Play the victim? I am not playing the victim. I am the victim. All you care about is your political career , nothing else. Not even your daughter " she all but shouted though her voice wavered, breaking in the end.
Was she pathetic for wanting his affection after all he had put her through? Was she stupid for waiting for him to tell her that he loved her?
"I think you should leave. You are wasting my time. I have a lot of work to do. Get out" he said harshly.
His words hurt her, but she masked her emotions quickly. "Of course" she said and hot up
She made her way out of the room without looking back. She furiously wiped a lone tear that had made its way down her cheeks.
Why Was she even crying, he didn't deserve her tears. She knew that the best thing to do was to cut all ties with him and as much as she had tried, she just couldn't push back the fact that she still loved her parents.
Oh it hurt, to love someone who only wants to hurt you. To try and mend a relationship which was one sided. She would back down. She was still going to take them both down, for her child, she swore.
Once she was home, she took out the file she had taken from Charlie's desk to study. She gave a sigh of hope as she opened it.
And there it all was, the information she had been looking for. The file had records of all illegal transactions that had been taking place in Charlie's office. But that wasn't all. Inside was a diary with the names of all those who had been working with Charlie to steal government funds.
So much money had been paid into the accounts of those working with Charlie including Lisa's account.
"Bingo" she exclaimed a smile on her face.
This would surely take them down. They would be dealt such a blow that it would take them long to get back on their feet. They would surely get into trouble because of the file.
She was just about to call Lucas when her phone rang. An unknown number. She answered nonetheless .
"Hello" she said into the phone and waited for a reply, but when she didn't get any, she talked again "Hello, who is this? " she asked, Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion .
"Who is this? " she asked
"Hi, Zawadi, it's me Amani " Zawadi heard the voice of her brother from the other side. Of course it was her brother, that's why it sounded so familiar. She smiled happily. Then she frowned when she realized that he sounded troubled.
"Amani are you okay, you don't sound okay. " she asked, worry suddenly taking over her.
"I am okay. It's just... I had a disagreement with mother. She has thrown me out of the house. I don't know what to say " Amani said his voice low.
"Of course we can meet. Where are you so that I can send a driver to pick you up? " Zawadi asked.
"I am just outside the house. Please come get me" He pleaded.
" Of course. The driver will be there shortly, hang on" Zawadi told him.
"Thank you" Amani said and hung up.
How could Lisa oust her own soon from the house over a misunderstanding? Oh She never failed to amaze her. But still she needed to talk to Lucas. It was still his house after all and she had just allowed someone else to come without his permission.
"Hi Lucas" she said after he answered the call.
"Hey cupcake, how are you? "
"I am good, I need to talk to you though. Are you busy?"
"Yeah, but I can still listen so tell me"he basically ordered.
"I kind of asked Amani to come over to the house. I know I should have asked for your permission. It's just that mom kicked him out and I felt sorry for him so I... " she started rambling.
"It's okay baby. But why would you mother kick him out, he is not even sixteen yet? " he asked.
"Apparently they had a misunderstanding. " she explained.
"It's okay he can come over, I'll talk to you when I get off work "
"Will you be late? I have something to show you with regards to my parents "
"What is it? " he asked suddenly interested.
"I'll show you when you get here. Bye" she said and hung up leaving him intrigued.
