The morbid case of the owner

Zick hanged up his phone and massaged his temples. He was pondering over the invitation he got from his mother. He had been thinking that it wasn't his Tita Clara who asked his mom to ask him to be Amila's escort but his mom asked Tita Clara. She had been trying to play a matchmaker ever since he reached the age of thirty.

Little did Zick know, while he was pondering in his office alone an accident occurred wherein the victims of a burning restaurant were sent to their hospital? All the doctors present on that day rushed towards the emergency room.

Zick's assistant panicking knocked on his door and informed him of what had happened.

After receiving the information from his assistant, he immediately took his white robe and ran towards the emergency room.

The families that were dining in the said restaurant got either first or second-degree burns on their bodies. Children were all luckily saved as their parents or some adults tried to cover the kids' bodies after realizing that there was an explosion in the kitchen. Not even a single kid of all those kids was harmed or injured.

In an instant, one happy afternoon turned into a disaster.

Everyone was busy as they were attending the patients in the emergency room. A few minutes later, a howling scream of a woman was heard in the corridor. She was screaming as the nurses were pushing the stretcher of her husband who was the owner of the restaurant. Compared to the burns the customers of the restaurant got from the accident his case was worse. It was worse than the worst case you'll expect from a fire. His body was bleeding from head to toe, he looked like grilled pork as his flesh was already visible to the human eye. From his torso to his legs, the skin was all burned and blood was dripping from his body. He already lost an arm and would probably have lost his leg if the doctors were late in attending him.

Zick and Eya heard the wife howling. Both of them rushed towards the newly arrived patient. As Eya saw the patient's condition, she halted from her post and gasped as she didn't expect to see a patient in that state. Although she loved watching morbid movies such as Saw Series, Human Centipede, and other Japanese morbid movies, she didn't expect to see one for herself in real life.

Zick saw her reaction and tried to snap her back to reality as he saw her shocked face. He pushed Eya behind him and asked the nurses who are pushing his stretcher.

"What happened to him?"

The middle-aged nurse responded to him by narrating the information they had got. "He is the owner of the restaurant that exploded. Unfortunately, he was right in front of the stove burner when it exploded."

The owner was unfortunately at the site where the fire had started. He was in front of the burner before it exploded.

The patient was immediately rushed inside the operation room.

His wife waited outside the hall praying for the success of the surgery.

However, after what Eya saw earlier she was in shock. Nurses assisted her to the nearby station and calmed her senses. Nobody blamed her for her reaction as it was her first time seeing a grilled human before her eyes. Even the nurses who attended him earlier still had a vision of his state in their minds.

The middle-aged nurse who answered Zick's inquiries passed an herbal ointment to Eya and the rest of the nurses who saw the patient. She said that it will calm their senses after five minutes of applying it on them.

Eya applied the ointment to her temples and as the middle-aged nurse had said she relaxed and calmed herself. She wanted to ask what it was but after she remembered that there were still a handful of patients in the emergency to attend she rushed to the patients.

The surgery was administered by Dr. Alcantara and lasted for two hours. To prevent the patient from losing his leg, he removed the debris left inside his body. As for his skin condition, they covered it with their synthetic skin to avoid it from infections. All in all the surgery went well and the nurse informed the spouse about it.

Zick opened the operation room and to his surprise, the patient's wife hugged him as she was very happy and thankful for what he had done. "Doctor thank you so much! Thank you so much for saving him! Without my husband, I didn't know how I would have raised our twin boys by myself. Thank you so much!" The wife was crying happily after her spouse's successful operation.

"Madam you don't have to thank me as it's my job to save people."

"No doctor I'm very happy and glad that you have attended my husband, compared to that lady doctor who watched my husband from the moment we entered the hospital." The patient's wife misunderstood Eya from her reaction a while ago. She thought that Eya was disgusted by her husband and didn't want to attend him.

After hearing the patient's wife's remarks, Zick remembered that Eya went into shock after seeing the patient. The left the wife and excused himself as he needed to help the other patients in the emergency room.

Before heading to the room, Zick detoured and went to the pantry and fetched a chamomile tea for Eya. He knew that even though Eya loved morbid movies she instantly froze when she saw horrible cases of accidents. Earlier he totally forgot that she could easily go in shock despite being a doctor.
