Chapter 80
The last few days of the week was one of a hell. Keenan kept avoiding me while I kept avoiding Ryan. But one thing was off about Reuben's behavior towards Keenan. He kept giving him a suspicious glare which never escape my eyes. On the last day of texts week which was Friday, I went to class early as usual so I could talk to Keenan and ask him to stop avoiding me when I overheard a conversation and decided to eavesdrop.
"You have to stop behaving like an angel in front of her", the first person spoke and the voice sounded like Reuben's.
"You know nothing..absolutely nothing about me so stop talking trash and get out of my sight", the second person whom I recognized to be Keenan said.
"You can say I know nothing till I show you the amount of information I know about you ", Reuben said as if he had something to prove.
"What information? ", I asked in unison with Keenan. I just couldn't keep my curiosity to myself .
"How long have you been here?", Keenan was the first to ask since he couldn't hide his surprised face.
"How much did you here?", came another question from Reuben.
"That doesn't answer my question. What information were you talking about?", I was persistent with knowing what they were talking about.
"You will find out sooner and consider that as my means of coming back at you", Reuben said and walked out of the class leaving Keenan and I alone. He also wanted to leave but we were asked to settle down for our final paper. I couldn't stop staring at Keenan from time to time since I was still curious as to what they were talking about.
"This is your last paper for the week and I advice you to put in your best because it can one way or the other help boost the results of your previous test", miss Lucile came to give her long speech which sounded boring to my ears since I had a lot going on inside my head.
"Yes miss Lucille ", everyone responded and the class became dead silent after that. I was finding it really difficult to focus since I had been distracted earlier but I had to try so I wouldn't fail. I took my pen and started answering the easiest ones first .
'I am bad for your life. I'm supposed to be your worst enemy. I'm not a good guy as you see. I'm …..'
"Nooooooo", I screamed my lungs out since those words kept playing and echoing in my head.
"Ash what's wrong with you?", Keenan was the first to asked. That was when I realized everyone was as staring at me without blinking. I just created a scene in the middle of a serious activity.
"Ash. You are crying", Keenan said making me touch my cheeks to find the amount of tears that was falling off.
"I'm fine…. Just a little nervous ", I said not getting any tangible reason to give for my behavior.
"And I'm sorry for distracting you", I continued to apologize to the rest of the class.
"Don't leave after you are done with your paper, we need to talk", Keenan whispered after everyone seemed to be focused on their work.
"I'm fine. There's nothing to talk about", I told him and tried to concentrate on my paper too.
"I have something to talk about", he heaved and turned to his work too. I just wanted to leave school to a far away place to cry my lungs out and to think about myself that instant but the clock wasn't ticking as fast as I wanted it.
After waiting for heavens know how long, it was finally time to stop work. I dashed out of the class with my bag immediately my paper was taken just to avoid Keenan's talk. I drove home without stopping anywhere since I didn't want him to close on on me.
"Princess. You are home so early", was the greetings I got immediately I entered the house.
"I'm tired ", I told her dropping the breakfast she packed for me earlier in the kitchen before heading to my room.
"You didn't eat breakfast? What's wrong with you dear?", she asked a double question but I just ignored and continued walking.
"Please if anyone comes to see me, tell them I'm not home", were the last command I gave before disappearing into my room. I knew she wanted to follow me inside but she restrained herself and I was very glad for that. There were times that she never complains about the type of instructions I give because during those times, I act like my mum, as commanding and intimidating as ever.
I didn't know how to feel while in my room alone. I didn't know if I was supposed to be sad, confused or tough. Everything seemed to be coming down on me but I had done nothing wrong to be going through such a moment. I had to try to calm down before I start hitting my head against the wall.
