Chapter 76

I left so early in the morning and headed straight to the hospital to check up on how Ryan was feeling in the morning. I left Jennie in the house since I wanted to avoid her numerous questions. Ryan was awake pressing his phone when u got to his room.

"I can tell you are getting well since you are already awake focused on your phone", I said as I walked closer to him.

"You should at least say a good morning before beginning with your guesses", he replied with a smile dropping his phone on the table beside his bed.

"How are you feeling?", I ignored his silly comment earlier.

"I'm feeling better since you are performing your duties as my fiancé ", he winked.

"Can you stop joking around? I'm not your fian…"

"Then why did you sign the document? Did you even read it before pending your signature on it?", he asked putting on a serious look.

"Are you trying to be ungrateful now? I saved your fucking life Ryan, get that into your skull", I whisper yelled at him.

"That where the problem is, you see", he said getting my attention on him fully.

"How is that a problem?", I asked with raised brows.

"The document said, not even my parents could approve my surgery except my partner for life. MY WIFE OR FUTURE WIFE", he told me emphasizing on the last statement.

"You can't be serious", I scoffed not wanting to believe what he was saying.

"You can go and find out from the doctor if you don't believe me", he said and laid back on the bed.

"I just don't have time for your jokes, I'm leaving. See you after school", I said and walked out of the room. Even though I didn't want to believe what he was saying, some part of me wanted to be just sure of it. I checked my time and realized I would be late if I didn't start heading towards to school .

"I will see the doctor after school", I muttered to myself before heading straight to school.

The test was almost about to start when I got there so I just had to hurry to my seat before the teachers came in to deliver the questions.

"Where were you and why are you late?", were the questions I heard coming from Keenan after I took my seat.

"At the hospital ", was the only answer I thought was suitable for his question. No words came from him after my reply till we were done writing the paper for the day. I wanted to hurry back to the hospital to find out the truth about the documents I signed but then, I didn't want to leave Keenan alone as well.

He remained glued to his seat with a straight face even after the papers were collected which made me think he had something going through his head.

"Anything the matter?", I questioned him since he didn't even realize I was standing closer to him.

"I'm fine", he said rubbing his forehead.

"You are not fine, you look disturbed", I argued not wanting to believe him. I was worried about him being so quiet and I just need him to speak freely to me.

"I just told you I'm fine Ash. Just leave", he yelled at me. A sharp pain flashed through my chest making me flinch. I didn't know what caused that pain but I wasn't going to leave him alone.

"But..you…don't look fine", I stammered because tears was bringing to form in my eyes. He raised his head to look at me after avoiding my gaze for so long but it was time for me to avoid his. I didn't want him to see the tears that were threatening to fall from my eyes.

"Are you crying?", he asked in a worried tone.

"And why would I cry?", I said wiping my face.

"I'm…sorry Ash, I ….didn't mean to yell at you", he apologized .

"No need for apologies, I'm okay. I have to go", I said walking away from him.

"Wait.", he said making me stop by the door. "Have I been forgiven?", he asked when he got to where I was standing.

"Can I ask you a question?", I questioned back avoiding his.

"What's it?", he answered.

"Why does my heart race faster whenever I'm with you? Why does it hurt me so much when you yell at me or call me by my name? Why do I get worried whenever I see you worried? Why does my heart always ache when you are in pain? Why do I …",I wasn't able to complete my last questioning because I was shut up. He covered my lips with his making me stop mid sentence with my questioning. I felt tears dropping from my eyes but I didn't know why.
