Chapter 70

I looked at him from behind and realized he was even struggling to walk straight. "Are you sure you are okay?", I asked him getting up from my seat.

"Why are you still getting…", he started coughing again. It was getting worse and I had to do something.

"See you are even struggling to speak? I'd take you to the hospital for a checkup ", I said holding his wrist to drag him out when I felt he had gotten weak.

"I…don't…want…", I was waiting for him to finish his words but he never did. His body fell unconsciously on the floor .

"Hey what are you doing? I'm not in the mood for your jokes", I tried making him open his eyes but it wasn't working. He had really passed out.

"Ryan get up, you can't be doing this now", I called out but he couldn't hear me. There was only one way left, I had to help him regain consciousness the same way I did back then. I tried so many times but it wasn't helping and if I didn't act faster enough, he could die. I gathered all the strength I had in me and dragged him to the car. I sped off heading towards the hospital he usually attended for checkup since I trusted they could help him out.

The nurses rushed out to help me take him inside the emergency ward before calling a doctor to check up on him. I was forbidden from entering the room meaning I had to stay outside and take a view of what was going on through the transparent glass. Very soon, the doctor came out in a rush to ask some questions I didn't know how to answer.

"He is in a very critical condition due to his stubbornness to undergo the transplant ", he first spoke.

"Is he going to die? You can't let him die, you know that right?", I couldn't control the tears that was threatening to fall off.

"There's only one way to save him", he said and I couldn't wait any longer to hear what he had to say. "But first, are you his family?", he asked and I didn't know which answer to give. I had seen that in movies. Whenever someone needed a surgery, they always asked for the consent of the patient's family. The surgery can't go on unless they got an approval from a family member and that could cause his death even before his family get to know about it.

"Miss.", I doctor called me out of my abyss.

"Yes yes, he's my boyfriend ", the words suddenly flew out of my mouth before I could stop them.

"Just his girlfriend?", he asked not satisfied with the answer. And since I had already started it, I had do continue till the end.

"I…I mean… we are engaged and will get married after school. Satisfied now?", I asked him after lying so perfectly.

"Then we would need you to sigh some documents so we can start with the surgery, he doesn't have much time"

"Where are those documents?", I asked without thinking of the possible outcome of my actions.

"This way please ", he directed and I followed him in a hurry. I didn't take time to even read the documents and just pended my signature on it.

"We will start the surgery now, luckily we already have a donor", he told me.

"Please do your best to save him. You are my only hope now doctor, please", I pleaded with him.

"I'd try my best, I have to go now", he said and headed out of the office. I walked out to sit uncomfortably at the waiting area I order to get every single update about what was going on. Then I remembered I had to call Ryder since he was much closer to Ryan and he had to know what was going on with him.

"Hey Ash, what's up", Ryder was first to speak after picking up the call since I was quiet.

"Ry…Ryder, it's.."

"Are you crying? What's going on? Did Ryan hurt you again?", he fired me with questions.

"I'm at …the hospital…with Ryan ", I sobbed in between my words.

"Hospital? What are you guys doing there? Did something happen to Ryan? Don't tell me his condition…", he paused mid sentence after it dawned down on him. "I'm on my way there", he said and hanged up without waiting for me to speak.

I tried calling Jennie later but her number was busy. I couldn't sit anymore so I start pacing up and down while waiting for an update.

"How is he?", I heard Ryder's voice coming from behind making to turn to look at him. He came with Jennie, no wonder her number was busy when I tried calling her.
