The sound of the doorbell broke Alex's concentration. She was sitting on the stool in front of the kitchen island baking cookies for Sam.
"Kara. Kara! Can you answer the door please?" she yelled out for her sister. But the bell keeps on ringing. She shakes her head and walked over the front door.
She swung the door open and felt her heart skipped a beat. She backed away, she could feel all the blood rushing away from her face.
"Fuck." It was all she could come up with.
"I get that a lot. Hi! I'm Emma. Is Kara around?" As she winks at the stupefied girl.
"Huh... I'm sorry, hi, Alex. I mean my name is Alex. Ah... What? Huh. What was your question again? I'm sorry."
Emma smiled. "Alex, Kara's sister right? I'm looking for Kara. Is she here?"
"Kara! Kara! Hermione, shit, I mean Emma's here. Kara!" Alex yelled out. They heard footsteps rushing from the stairs. Kara who was puzzled while she ties her hair into a bun staggered over to the front door.
"Sorry, I fell asleep. Why are you shouting?"
Her eyes lit up when she saw Emma standing by the door. Alex moved out of the way and watched as Kara squealed and run to hug the other girl.
"Emma! What are you doing here?! Please come in!"
Emma followed Kara inside. Alex's mouth was still agape as she watched the other girl walk inside and sat chat animatedly with the famous actress.
"Oh, this is Alex, my sister."
"You told me about her, it's nice to meet you, I said that already did I?"
Alex was trembling when she reached for Emma's hand. "Hi... I love Harry Potter."
"I'll be sure to tell Dan about it."
"No, I mean the movie. You're my favorite."
"I think I heard that before. You told me that right Kara?" Emma laughs.
"Alex, I smell something burning." Kara shrugged her shoulder. Alex's eyes widened when she remember the cookies.
"Shucks! Sam's gonna kill me!" she runs to the kitchen leaving Kara and Emma behind.
"Please sit. Again, what are you doing here? You almost gave my sister a heart attack."
Emma laughs. "Sorry, I just came from Lena's office. I decided to pop up. Sorry I never gave you a heads up."
"Come on, it's not every day Emma Watson knocks on your door. So what's bring you here?"
Emma fidgeted for a while. She took a deep breath before she decided to say it. "What happened to you and Lena?"
"What do you mean?"
"Okay... Lena and I have been friends for as long as I can remember. She never brings anyone to a party or a gala. Yet, I was surprised to meet you there. I thought I'm the only friend she got beside Winn of course. But there you were. It was different, the way she acts when you're around. The way she looks at you. When she talks about you... That's when I knew that you're special. You're so much more."
Kara bowed her head."Yet, you're the one who's telling me that instead of her. How do you expect me to believe all of it?"
"Cause she's different. You must remember this. She loves you. I know that, and she doesn't even have to say it to me. I know her. When she loves someone, she always put them first, even if it hurts her."
"I don't know what to do..." Kara finally breaks.
"Your sister probably told you this, but you need to tell her."
"Don't you think it's too late? She's with Villanelle now."
"They're just dating. To be honest Kara, I don't trust Villanelle. She has this reputation, dated, and broke a lot of girls' hearts. I've never met her personally but still. I rather Lena be with you cause I know how happy she is whenever you're around."
"You all can see what I feel about her, but why can't she?"
"Because she's afraid to trust again. She's afraid of getting hurt. She loves Lillian with all of her heart and yet looks at how her mom treats her. Even if you tell her affront you love her she will still have doubts."
"I'm scared, Emma."
"Well, who isn't? But I'm telling you, it's worth it."
Kara stared at the girl sitting next to her. Emma smiled at her and squeezed her hand. That's when the door opened, Sam burst in. Her mouth wide open as she looks at them.
"Mother Fu----"
"Language!" Alex came in with a tray of cookies on her hands.
"Oh god! Hi! I can't even! Hi!"
Emma stood up and shook Sams' hand. "You must be Sam."
"How did you know? Alex! She knows my name!"
"Perhaps I've mentioned you two once or twice.." Kara said.
"Like how?" Alex asked.
"When we chat."
Sam and Alex stared at them for a while.
"I should probably get going. I'm intruding on your weekend plans."
"Stay please. we need to figure out what we have to do with those two knuckleheads." Sam smiled.
Emma grinned. "Perhaps, that's a great idea."
Kara watched as the two grabbed Emma towards the backyard. She was about to follow them but she heard a knock on the front door. She walked towards it.
When she opened the door she was surprised to find Lena standing there, with all her beauty and a worried look on her face.
"Lena! Hi!"
"We need to talk.." Lena said. Kara stared back at those green eyes that she loves. She closed the door and they walk towards Lena's car. When they got inside no one dares to speak first. Lena was looking at the steering wheel, Kara at the dashboard.
"I have something to say, I should have said it, wanted to say it for a very long time but I don't want to ruin what we have." Lena started.
Kara held her breath.
"I don't believe in love at first sight. It came to a point that I don't even believe in love anymore. That it was just chemicals and hormones acting up. I like you, from the first time that we met, I knew that I like you. But I didn't expect it to develop into something more. I felt guilty, guilty of feeling it. Guilty of hiding it. Guilty of being happy like I didn't deserve it."
"Lena...." Kara finally got the courage to look at the other girl. But Lena was staring straight ahead, she's not even sure if she heard her.
"No one compares to you. I was scared of losing you. Then Monel came into your life, and I was really jealous Kara. I know that I'm not the one you need, but it hurts."
Kara reached for Lena's hands. The other girl didn't even notice as she continues on.
"But I don't want to lie to you or myself anymore." That's when Lena stared back at her, surprised to find her handheld by Kara.
"You were saying?"
"I....I...." Lena stuttered.
"I love you, Lena. I wanted to leave him, believe me, I do. I just needed a reason and all I think about is you. So I did leave him. I wanted to be with that one person only.... one who made my heart beats like this."
Lena's breath hitched when Kara places her hand on her chest, she felt the fast beating of her heart under her palm.
"You love me?"
Kara nodded her head as a response.
Lena pulled Kara's hand and placed it on her lips.
"How did you do it... Captured something that I didn't know I have?" There was sadness in Lena's eyes.
"You're a good person Lena. That's one of the reasons why I love you. You have a heart."
Lena gazed at her lovingly, her thumb grazing her cheek.
"How about Villanelle?"
"I'll make it right. I promise. I want to be fair to her. Can you wait for me until I get things right Kara?"
Kara smiled. They just stared at each other, feeling the warmth of each other's hand. She doesn't know how long it was until they heard a knocked on the glass window.
They both look up and saw Alex, Sam, and Emma standing outside with a goofy smile on their face.
Lena let go of Karas's hand and pressed a button to roll the window down.
"Hi guys....." said Sam.
Lena smiled shyly at them.
" See, I told you guys. She listens to me." Emma boasted, a proud look as she waves at Lena.
"What are you doing here???" she asked her friend.
"I told you that I'm going to give Kara a visit right? That's why I asked for her address."
"Oh..."
It was Sam who leaned in on the car's hood. "So are you lovebirds coming inside or what?"
Kara and Lena chuckled but then the sound of the latter phone's ringing caught their attention. Lena glanced and felt a stab of guilt in her chest she saw who it was.
"It's she is it?" Kara whispered.
Lena looked at her, apologizing for ruining the moment. "I need to fix this Kara."
Kara nods her head and smiled. But Lena saw it, the pain hidden in her eyes.
"I understand." Lena felt Kara squeezed her hand before she walks out of the car. She waved at them and glanced one more time at Kara before she drove away.
Kara watches until the car was out of sight. Hoping that Lena won't change her mind.
